''Khakee'' (translation: The Uniform) is a 2004 Indian action drama film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and written by Rajkumar Santoshi and Shridhar Raghavan about an accused Inter-Services Intelligence agent, the state of affairs and law and order in India. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav, Akshay Kumar as Sr. Insp. Shekhar Verma, Ajay Devgan as Former Police Officer Yashwant Angre, Atul Kulkarni as Dr. Iqbal Ansari, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Rai, Tusshar Kapoor, Tanuja and Jayapradha. Lara Dutta made a special appearance in the song "Aisa jadoo". The film released on January 23, 2004 to positive reviews and went on to became the fifth highest-grossing film of the year 2004.
The team is armed with traditional Indian police's weapons and ready to go, but danger lurks everywhere as the gang is determined to make sure the police team with Dr. Iqbal Ansari does not make it to Mumbai. The mission turns into a battle for survival when the team is attacked at various points during the journey through arid landscapes and tiny villages. When the team reaches an abandoned cottage in a forest en route, there is another shoot-out and the team finds itself heavily outnumbered. Against DCP Anant Shrivastav and Inspector Ashwin Gupte's judgment, Senior Inspector Shekhar Verma tries to force an exchange of Dr. Iqbal Ansari in return for their lives. At this point, Ansari breaks down and reveals that the gang is not planning on freeing him, but instead on killing him after their use. He goes on to reveal that he knew the whereabouts of the certain file which will reveal the true face of Minister Deodhar (Sabyasachi Chakraborty), a high ranking politician in the country. The file with Dr. Iqbal Ansari's testimony could destroy the politician who built his career on inciting religious antagonisms. So, Minister Deodhar is using the gang under Yashwant Angre to obtain the file in any circumstances. He was framed as an "Islamic terrorist" when he threatened to expose the file. At this point, Senior Inspector Shekhar Verma's intentions change dramatically and he plans an escape from the cottage. The plan is successful and they manage to get out and get Ansari— who is injured in the encounter with the gang— to a nearby hospital in the fictitious city of Nairoli. And due to a slip-up by ACP Naidu (Prakash Raj), who is DCP Anant Shrivastav's senior, DCP Shrivastav figures out that he was the mole leaking out information about their whereabouts to the organization.
At this point, Minister Deodhar, the politician using the organization lead by Yashwant Angre, and ACP Naidu come up with a plan to turn citizens against the police team by declaring in a press conference that the police team had gone "rogue" and is now protecting Dr. Iqbal Ansari on the directions of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence. Seeing the news on television, several locals gather at the hospital and threaten to barge inside. DCP Anant Shrivastav confronts them and urges them to have faith in his team, and not go by what they hear on television.
The police team then commissions a train to take them from Nairoli Railway Station to Mumbai. However, once again the gang arrive at the station and there is another shoot-out. The cops manage to get Ansari on board the train, but Constable Kamlesh Sawant (Kamlesh Sawant) dies trying to divert the attention of the gunmen. After reaching Mumbai, Dr. Iqbal Ansari is again taken to a hospital, where he is declared dead. This is a severe jolt to the efforts and reputation of DCP Shrivastav's team.
However, at this point, they manage to unearth another piece of evidence against Minister Deodhar and ACP Naidu—the old file containing incriminating details against them, hidden away by a now-killed journalist in a locker in Mumbai's General Post Office. Senior Inspector Shekhar Verma and Mahalakshmi (who is now girlfriend of Shekhar Verma) manage to find the file, but are again confronted by Yashwant Angre while leaving. Shekhar Verma gives the file to Mahalakshmi and asks her to take it to DCP Anant Shrivastav, and engages Yashwant Angre and his men to allow her to escape. At this point, it turns out that Mahalakshmi is actually an agent of Yashwant Angre, and was sent in order to leak the whereabouts of the file and cops' plans to them. Mahalakshmi kills Shekhar Verma, who believed she was in love with him— but not before exposing Mahalakshmi's reality to DCP Shrivastav, unbeknownst to her and Yashwant Angre. DCP Shrivastav and his team hunt down Angre by following Mahalakshmi, and capture him after a fight. Mahalakshmi is killed during the encounter, when Angre uses her as a protective shield against the gunfire. The police are also able to retrieve the file indicting Minister Deodhar.
Armed with compelling evidence in the form of the file, the court is able to convict Yashwant Angre, Minister Deodhar, and ACP Naidu. The movie then reaches its climax .On the way to the prison,Angre sees that the bolts holding his handcuffs are actually loose, and he breaks free, grabs a rifle and attacks the constables in the van.Ashwin then jumps out of the truck to find Angre holding a constable hostage with a shotgun .Angre comes out and goes to shoot Ashwin and the constable, but then sees that the gun has no Ammo. The Convict throws down the gun ,and puts his hands behind his head, expecting mercy. Sub-Inspector Gupte then takes out his pistol and pulls out 2 bolts, throwing them at Angre, showing him that they were purposely removed for Angre to try to escape. He then shoots Angre, thus avenging Inspector Shekhar Verma and Constable Kalmesh. The film ends with Ashwin ringing the department and saying that Angre got killed while trying to fire at the cops and escape.
Ram Sampath has composed the music for the film.
Bollywood Hungama gave a four stars explains " One wouldn't call KHAKEE the best script Santoshi has tackled, but it certainly would rank amongst the best. Another aspect that enhances the film is the dialogues (Rajkumar Santoshi), which will be met with a thunderous applause at various junctures of the film. Santoshi has a knack for extracting wonderful performances from the cast. Amitabh Bachchan delivers one of the best performances of his career. He has some of the toughest scenes in the film. In fact, a lesser actor would've failed to do justice to the role. But Bachchan's expressions, voice and movement bring the character to life. Akshay Kumar is fantastic. Ajay Devgan adds yet another feather in his cap with a performance that could've been essayed only by a master performer. Aishwarya Rai gets a role to prove her talent and she more than lives up to the expectations. Tusshar may not have many lines to deliver, but his presence and expressions register a strong impact".
Derek Elley from Variety magazine stated "The testosterone's so high you can almost put a match to it in "Khakee," a twist-filled, often very violent drama centered on some cops escorting a terrorist cross-country to Mumbai. Powerhouse casting, and equally powerhouse direction by Rajkumar Santoshi, makes this an above-average example of mainstream Bollywood thrillers, sans any stylistic flourishes. Given its paucity of musical numbers and romance, this one could have a career on ancillary among general action buffs".
The film was nominated for four Filmfare Awards, including Best Director for Santoshi, Best Actor for Bachchan, Best Supporting Actor for Kumar, and Best Villain for Devgn.

At Miss Universe 2000 in Cyprus, Lara was the clear favorite ahead of fierce competition from Venezuela, Spain, USA and Canada. She achieved the highest score in the swimsuit competition and her finalist interview score was the highest individual score in any category in the history of the Miss Universe contest, as her perfect interview saw a majority of the judges giving her the maximum 9.99 mark. After her final question, in which she delivered a passionate defense of the Miss Universe contest (and other beauty pageants), she became the second Indian Miss Universe.
In the same year, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza won their respective Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific titles which gave India a rare triple victory in the world of beauty pageants.
In 2006, she starred in the comedy, ''Bhagam Bhag'' which did well at the box office.
In 2005, Sania Mirza and Lara Dutta Bhupathi both participated in Kaun Banega Crorepati (season 2) on 13 November 2005. Dutta's first release of 2007 was Shaad Ali's ''Jhoom Barabar Jhoom''. The film was a box office failure in India but did better overseas, especially in the U.K. She received mixed reviews for her performance in the film. Her later release, ''Partner'' opened to a good response and became a hit.
Her 2009 release, ''Blue'' was one of the most expensive movies of Indian cinema. Lara had initially walked out of the project because the movie was entirely shot in the ocean and she did not know how to swim. However the male protagonist Akshay Kumar encouraged her in learning how to swim and she immediately started training with a special coach. ''Blue'' was released on 16 October 2009. She stated that "The moment I got to know of it, I called Akshay and told him that I wouldn't be able to accept the assignment. He knew the reason behind my decision. Not many people are aware that I had almost drowned while shooting for Andaaz, Akshay had rescued me. When I reminded him I couldn't swim, he told me to forget my phobia and learn swimming pronto," said Dutta. "Today, I feel Blue has not merely made me overcome my phobias, but has also taught me something that will stay with me for the rest of my life".
Her 2010 release ''Housefull'' was a hit across India. The movie starred Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Riteish Deshmukh. It was the 4th biggest hit in the country with Rs 955 Millions of gross revenue . She played the role of Hetal Petal, one of the main characters in the movie.
