We cannot predict which community will be among the first to be in the front of the struggle - and it was not Bil'in. We cannot predict which one will persists in the struggle week after week, year after year... like Bil'in. When it happens, we can often understand, like why the small village of Nabi Salih - which even was not victim of the separation fence, joined the persistent struggle. A Bil'in faceva freddo il 31 dicembre. Pioveva, tirava il vento e l'umidità ci gelava tutti. Circa un migliaio di noi era lì - palestinesi, israeliani ed internazionali - a protestare contro la barriera dell'apartheid nel villaggio. L'esercito israeliano sapeva che stavamo arrivando, per cui ha predisposto dei posti di blocco mobili lungo la strada principale che porta al villaggio. Bilin was cold yesterday. It rained and the wind and damp got to everything. About a thousand of us showed up – Palestinians, Israelis and internationals – to protest the apartheid barrier in the village. The Israeli army knew we were coming, so flying checkpoints were thrown up on the main road into town. We swarmed the hills and valleys surrounding Bil'in by the hundreds and managed to join those already in the village. Nearly all of us us hiked around the apartheid abscesses (roadblocks) and made it to the village where I was (not really) surprised to see Salam Fayyad. I assume he had applied in advance for an entry permit ;). The march got underway after the Old Guard finished posturing for the cameras. We advanced about fifty or sixty meters when Fayyad abruptly stopped, shook a few hands, and bowed out. I heard a few jokes and sniggers as we marched on. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Bilin, il villaggio porta-bandiera, è l'unico su cui vi sia un resoconto dettagliato. Bil'in: Israeliani - 50, Internazionali - 50, Palestinesi - centinaia di uomini, donne, politici; bandiere - (in ordine decrescente) al-Mubadara [l'Iniziativa Nazionale Palestinese], al-Jabha [Fronte Democratico per la Liberazione della Palestina], Fatah, Palestina, Argentina; soldati - disposti sulla strada che porta dal muro all'area residenziale del villaggio; gas lacrimogeni - sparati prima ancora che i manifestanti si avvicinassero ai soldati; vento - in direzione dei volti dei manifestanti, una piccola avanguardia ha tenuto posizione vicino ai soldati; ferite - da gas, da gas e ancora da gas; arrestati - 1 tedesco + 1 palestinese (minacciato di arresto se non se ne andava nel giro di 1 minuto, per reazione ha detto che non aveva bisogno di 1 minuto e che era meglio essere arrestato immediatamente); rilasciati - il palestinese alla fine della manifestazione, il tedesco un paio d'ore dopo. The winter arrived with cold and stormy weather for a few days. It did not stop the joint struggle but the urge to report was low. Bilin, the flag holding, is the only detailed reported on struggles. ---- Bil'in ---- Israelis: ~50. Internationals ~ 50. Palestinians: hundreds of men, women, politicians ---- Flags: (in decreasing order) Mubadara, Jabha, Fatah, Palestine, Argentina ---- Soldiers: deployed on the road leading from the wall into the village's built-up area ---- Gas: came before the demonstrators even got near the soldiers ---- Wind: in the demonstrators' faces; small vanguard held their stance near the soldiers ---- Injuries: gas, gas and more gas ---- Arrests: 1 German + 1 Palestinian (who was threatened with arrest if he didn't leave in one minute; in reaction, he said he didn't need a minute, and was willing to be arrested immediately) ---- Releases: Palestinian - at the end of the demo; German - a couple of hours later. Nell'ultimo anno c'è stata una nuova ondata a cui ha aderito una parte significativa della sinistra radicale israeliana con azioni dirette sia all'interno dei confini israeliani del 1948, sia nei territori occupati dal 1967.
