Richard John Hatton MBE, more commonly known as Ricky "the Hitman" Hatton, (born October 6, 1978, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England), is a retired British professional boxer. He is a two-time IBF and IBO light welterweight champion, having relinquished the IBF belt, only to move down a weight class and beat Juan Urango.
He was the WBA Welterweight Champion, but relinquished this title on August 31, 2006. Hatton is also the former WBU, WBA Light Welterweight Champion and WBC, WBA, WBO Inter-Continental Light Welterweight Champion, and former ''Ring'' magazine Junior Welterweight Champion.
After losing his last fight to Manny Pacquiao, Ricky had put his career on a long hiatus, with rumours of a comeback circulating the media since. However on July 7, 2011, Hatton announced his retirement from boxing.
Both his grandfather and father played for Rochdale, and Ricky had a trial for the youth team. But Hatton found a local boxing club in Hyde, which he still trains at, and found he enjoyed the sport.
Hatton's entrance music is the Manchester City club song "Blue Moon" as performed by the band "Supra." Aged 14, Hatton was taken by his uncles Ged and Paul to Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium to watch the second fight between Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank.
Hatton joined the family carpet business on leaving school, but after he cut four of his fingers with a Stanley knife, his father made him a salesman to prevent him from losing his fingers.
Hatton relinquished his IBF belt on 29 March 2006 after refusing to fulfil a mandatory defence against number one contender Naoufel Ben Rabah, because he intended to move up to the welterweight class. Hatton signed a three fight contract with Dennis Hobson's fight academy after splitting from long time promoter Frank Warren. The three fights would take place in the United States.
Hatton was forced to relinquish his IBF title again on 10 February, to be able to fight Castillo. The fight was held on 23 June 2007, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In round four, Hatton landed a "perfect" left hook to the liver, which put Castillo to the canvas. Ricky later claimed that 4 of Castillo's ribs were broken with this one punch. Unable to stand up, Castillo was counted out for the first time in his career.
Hatton was able to bring the fight to Mayweather in the early rounds. In the 1st round Hatton caught Mayweather with a left jab which knocked Mayweather off balance. His constant pressure appeared to make Mayweather uncomfortable at first. In the third round, Mayweather landed a right that cut Hatton above the right eye. In round six, referee Joe Cortez took a point away from Hatton after he appeared to hit Mayweather on the back of the head while Mayweather was rested between the ropes. However, the punch was revealed to have hit the rope rather than Mayweather's head but Hatton was warned for punching behind the head on numerous occasions before the deduction. Hatton became angry at the referee's decision to deduct a point from him and turned his back on him in frustration. Hatton would later claim that he had become angry by the referee and that had caused him to lose his calm and contributed to his downfall. Hatton was able to hold his own, until round eight, when Mayweather began to adapt to Hatton and started counterattacking. Mayweather knocked Hatton to the mat in Round 10. Hatton got up, but Mayweather quickly resumed his attack, resulting in Joe Cortez putting a stop to the fight, and Hatton's corner threw in the towel. Mayweather commented post-match that "Ricky Hatton is one tough fighter. He is still a champion in my eyes and I'd love to see him fight again. "Ricky Hatton is probably one of toughest competitors I've faced. I hit him with some big ones but he kept coming and I can see why they call him the 'Hitman'." The fight received large amounts of publicity, with both fighters promoting the fight heavily.
Following the loss to Pacquiao, Hatton has put his career on a long hiatus. After more than a year out of action, in a June 2010 interview with ''Gulfnews.com'', the British boxer seemed uninterested in coming to the ring again. He stated: "Boxing started off as a habit and it ended up giving me some money and making me a little bit of a better person. But I don't think I will have a fight again. But you can never say never as I have not announced officially that I won't be boxing. At the moment I don't have any fire in the belly for a fight or to get myself to a gym." However, Hatton also added: "But it has been only 13 months and I am only 31, so never count me out."
Hatton has also voiced suspicion that Manny Pacquiao may be using performance enhancing drugs (PED's). The British boxer said he should have made the same blood testing demand as Floyd Mayweather, whose fight against the Filipino fighter fell through in early 2010.
Regarding his nickname, Ricky said, "I've always been a fan of Tommy Hearns, and everybody associates that that's where I got it from, but everybody's a Tommy Hearns fan. I got the nickname the first day I walked in the gym. I was 10 years old and put a pair of gloves on and started walloping the bag, and my amateur coach said, "Look at him, look how evil he is. He's a little Hitman."
Hatton is sometimes referred to by boxing fans as "Ricky Fatton" because he's been known to allow himself to weigh as much as 175 to 180 pounds (35 to 40 pounds over his fight weight) when he's not in training for a fight. Ever since Hatton turned professional, he has always opted to eat a full English breakfast before fights - his favourite place in Hyde is The Butty Box in Mottram Road, where he was interviewed by Gaby Logan for ''Inside Sport;'' and he is known to drink Guinness on Thursday night when he plays darts for the New Inn. Hatton defends his diet, citing that he plans to retire within the next four major bouts - experts have used his ill-balanced diet, akin to Jake LaMotta's ballooning up between fights, to explain his poor performances in recent fights, and nature to tire towards the end of fights. Hatton also appeared on ITV1's daytime show ''Loose Women'' in August 2007, stating that the reason why he puts on weight between fights is because "I have a lot on my plate at the moment".
Hatton appeared on the ''Friday Night with Jonathan Ross'' show in March 2007. When the host, Ross, placed some pads on his hands and gave Hatton gloves to hit them with, he knocked a pad clean off Ross's hand with a powerful left hook. Interviewed on ITV1's ''Parkinson'' on 13 October 2007, at the beginning of the interview, Hatton handed Michael Parkinson a custom made pair of boxing shorts with 'Mike' and 'Parky' written on them, the shorts had the Barnsley emblem on them and were coloured red and blue, Barnsley Football Club's colours, because Parkinson supports Barnsley. While talking about Floyd Mayweather's arrogance, Hatton said "if there was such a thing as re-incarnation, Floyd would come back as himself".
Hatton received the award of MBE for services to sport in the 2007 New Year's Honours List.
In 2008 Hatton started hosting his own live chat show called ''Ricky Speaks'', on Nuts TV.
His father, Ray Hatton said, "We had a conversation with a third party asking whether, if we were approached by the Mayweather team, would a possible rematch be on the cards." Ray also said, "Really at the moment we're looking at Manny Pacquiao. It's very nice for Ricky to still be in such a big league."
Although negotiations stalled at some points, Hatton fought the number one pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao on 2 May 2009. Hatton hosted the 9 November edition of ''WWE Raw'' defeating Chavo Guerrero in a match.
On 13 September 2010, Hatton was admitted to a rehabilitation facility, The Priory in Roehampton, London, UK, for substance abuse to tackle a drink and depression problem. He was caught on camera apparently snorting class A drugs, lines of cocaine in a Manchester hotel room. Doctors said they were more worried about his depression and alcohol abuse than drug use. Hatton sought medical help two weeks prior, after news emerged about a night out where he drank 11 pints of Guinness, Vodka and Sambucca during the night out with Emma Bowe, 29, the Irish national senior women’s boxing champion. It is now uncertain if he will return to the ring in the future, or will retire as he has already hinted.
Hatton has a son, Campbell, conceived after a short reconciliation with ex-girlfriend, Claire. Long before he was a big-money earner, Hatton set up a trust fund to make sure his son was always provided for, and sees him every day.
On 12 September 2010, the Sunday tabloid ''News of the World'' published a front-page story alleging Hatton has been a regular cocaine user with accompanying pictures showing the boxer apparently using the drug. Hatton is said to be "devastated" following the story.
''There's only one Ricky Hatton,'' ''One Ricky Hatton,'' ''Walking along,'' ''Singing this song,'' ''Walking in a Hatton wonderland.''
Hatton fans also like to taunt the opponent by singing "Who are ya?", a popular English football chant.
Along with Floyd Mayweather, Hatton is referenced by New York rapper GZA on the track "Paper Plates" from his 2008 album ''Pro Tools.''

Marcos Maidana (born 17 July 1983 in Margarita, Santa Fe, Argentina) is an Argentine professional light-welterweight boxer from José Leon Suarez, Buenos Aires. He is the current World Boxing Association's Super Lightweight champion. His only professional losses have come against Andreas Kotelnik and Amir Khan
On May 3, ESPN revealed Maidana had pulled out of the fight yet again, still citing his back as the problem. The fight had already been resheduled from June 19 to July 17, and Gary Shaw has said he hopes HBO will keep Bradley on July 17, even against a different opponent. Subsequently, Bradley went on to face, and beat, Luis Carlos Abregu on July 17.
On August 30 BoxingScene.com published an online interview with Maidana's former promoter Mario Margossian, in which Margossian stated that Maidana's failure to fight Bradley was not hampered by an alleged back injured, but was due to the fact "[Maidana] was afraid to be defeated by Bradley." The interview continued to document how Margossian felt Maidana had "betrayed" him in his decision not to take the fight against Bradley.
However, in an earlier online article, Maidana cites a managerial dispute with Margossian as the reason for the Bradley fight not happening. Maidana claimed that Margossian attempted to defraud him by signing Maidana to fight Bradley without Maidana's consent and without full disclosure of the financial terms offered by Golden Boy Promotions. In subsequent interviews, Maidana again stated that negotiations for the Bradley fight had taken place without his knowledge.
On August 28, Maidana recorded a hard-fought victory over Corley. Despite knocking Corley down in the 7th round, Maidana had to go the distance for only the third time in his career, eventually securing victory via unanimous decision (117-110, 117-110, 115-112). \
Building on speculation that had begun to surface before his fight with Corley, several sources began naming Amir Khan as Maidana's next opponent with a tentative date - December 11 - set for the fight. Maidana had gone on record before his fight with Corley accusing both Khan and trainer Freddie Roach of "hypocrisy" and openly called out Khan in an interview: }} Khan responded to Maidana via his official Twitter site expressing his hope that "Golden Boy can get the fight in the UK [on] December 11th". On September 15, ESPN revealed that both fighters had agreed to a dance off - that the two would face each other on December 11 at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas.
Khan dominated the fight early and knocked down Maidana in the 1st round with a left hook to the liver, but had to withstand a furious barrage by Maidana in round 10, and continually back up during rounds 11 and 12. Maidana was unable to finish Khan however, who went on to win the fight by unanimous decision. The fight was awarded the Boxing Writers Association of America Award for Fight of the Year.
From the fourth round onwards and although he was effectively fighting with one eye, Morales gave as good as he got and was landing the cleaner more effective shots, albeit occasionally being swarmed by the sheer number of punches being landed in return by the relentless Maidana. The fight became a see-saw affair and then, in the eighth round, Morales hit Maidana with a huge left hook that almost stopped the Argentinian. The next couple of rounds continued in this fashion, with Maidana using his strength and stamina to bully Morales and the Mexican using his sharper punching and ring intelligence to land effective counters and combinations. The fight was fast turning into a modern classic.
In the "championship rounds" (the eleventh and twelfth), Morales seemed to tire and Maidana took advantage, overwhelming him with his strength and punishing the ageing warrior continually to the head and body. Maidana finished the fight much the stronger of the two and his late surge gave him the win on the scorecards, 116-112 twice with the third judge scoring the fight a draw, 114-114.
Bout canceled due to Guerrero shoulder injury.

At the age of 18, Bisping decided to abandon his martial arts training in order "to pursue real life". But less than a year later Bisping began training kickboxing and karate on the advice of Alan Clarking, owner of Black Knights gym, who saw potential in the young fighter. Bisping enjoyed a short, but successful kickboxing career, winning the North West Area title and later the Pro British light heavyweight kickboxing title. After again briefly quitting competition in 1998, Bisping returned to kickboxing to take the Pro British light heavyweight title for a second time. Soon after winning his second kickboxing title, Bisping was forced to abandon his full-time training for a "real job". Bisping worked in factories, slaughterhouses, as an upholsterer, a postman, a tiler, a plasterer, a double-glazing door salesman and also a relatively successful DJ around the north-west club scene.
At ''The Ultimate Fight Club UK: Natural Instinct'' on 29 January 2005, Bisping made his cage kickboxing debut against David Brown in a light heavyweight contest. With Brown badly cut, Bisping picked up the win via medical stoppage in round 2.
Bisping, who trains with the Wolfslair MMA Academy, the professional fight team of Cage Warriors, made his debut for the promotion at ''Ultimate Force'' on 30 April 2005, defeating Dave Radford to win the vacant Cage Warriors light heavyweight title. Bisping then competed in another light heavyweight cage kickboxing contest, against Cyrille Diabate at ''CWFC: Strike Force 1'' on 21 May 2005, losing to Diabaté via decision after the end of the first extra round. He captured the FX3 light-heavyweight title on 18 June 2005 and was reigning on UK's major federations. In his first Cage Warriors title defence, Bisping defeated Miika Mehmet at ''CWFC: Strike Force 2'', on 16 July 2005.
In September 2005, Cage Rage stripped the light heavyweight title from Bisping due to "management issues that Michael currently has", though Cage Warriors however stated that "Bisping was willing to defend his title but is being punished by Cage Rage due to his Wolfslair and Cage Warriors links". Towards the end of 2005, Bisping continued to successfully defend the Cage Warriors title against Jakob Lovstad and Ross Pointon in the ''CWFC: Strike Force'' series of events, leading to a record of 10 wins and no losses.
Five months after his victory in the ''TUF 3'' finals, Bisping was slated to fight Eric Schafer at ''The Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale'', but withdrew because of problems acquiring his visa. The fight was re-scheduled and held on 30 December at ''UFC 66''. Bisping defeated Schafer by TKO at 4:24 in the first round.
On 21 April 2007, Bisping scored a TKO win over Elvis Sinosic at ''UFC 70'' in Manchester, England. Sinosic came out fighting and Bisping eagerly obliged, firing back before throwing the Australian to the canvas. Bisping then launched a vicious ground and pound attack, opening a cut on Sinosic's forehead. In the second round Bisping was knocked down from a knee. Then Sinosic almost secured a kimura before Bisping reversed and pounded away until Steve Mazzagatti stopped the bout at 1:40 of the second round.
Bisping was a special guest referee at the Cage Warriors events ''Enter The Wolfslair'' on 5 March 2005 and ''CWFC: Strike Force 6'' on 27 May 2006.
On 8 September 2007, Bisping faced former Ultimate Fighter 3 rival Matt Hamill in London, England and won a controversial split decision after 3 rounds. Hamill pushed the pace and took Bisping down numerous times in the first two rounds, with Bisping hitting solid strikes and blocking numerous takedown attempts towards the end of the second and in the third round. Both American judges scored the bout 29–28 for Bisping, the lone British judge voted 30–27 for Hamill.
Bisping's next match at UFC 78 against fellow Ultimate Fighter winner Rashad Evans resulted in his first loss, via split decision – 29–28, 29–28, 28–29 for Evans.
Bisping's next fight (and second at ), was on 7 June 2008 at UFC 85 in London, against Jason Day. Bisping was originally set to face Chris Leben, but Jason Day stepped in as Leben was incarcerated for 35 days and unable to compete. Bisping won the fight in dominant fashion in the first round, securing two takedowns and applying a high paced pressure; it was his second 1st round TKO in a row.
Bisping headlined UFC 89 on 18 October, in a matchup against Chris Leben, who Bisping was supposed to face in UFC 85. Bisping won a unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 30–27 (twice), and 29–28 for Bisping. Bisping used effective counter punching in the fight to keep the aggressive Leben at bay. After the fight Leben tested positive for Stanozolol and was suspended for nine months.
After the fight with Leben, Bisping was confirmed as one of the coaches on the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter. The other coach was American Dan Henderson, whom Bisping would fight after the show ended, on 11 July 2009 at Mandalay Bay at UFC 100. The fight was believed to be an eliminator for the UFC Middleweight Championship top contender spot. Michael had received a high-end Land Rover for being a coach on the show, along with Dan Henderson.
On 11 July at UFC 100, Bisping was knocked out by Dan Henderson with a flush overhand right while he was circling to his left. Henderson followed up with a strike after Bisping had fallen to the ground before the fight was stopped. It marked the first occasion Bisping had ever conceded a knockout loss and also only his second loss in his MMA career to date.
Bisping faced Spirit MC & Pride veteran Denis Kang on 14 November 2009 at UFC 105. Bisping TKO'd Kang in the 2nd round. Kang dropped Bisping with a right hand in the first round which stunned Bisping. Kang followed Bisping to the floor and attempted submissions, but Bisping defended well and neutralised Kang's attacks despite Kang briefly having full mount. In the 2nd round Bisping secured a single-leg takedown and the complexion of the fight changed. He unleashed a ground and pound attack on the Canadian, which Kang failed to recover from. The fight was awarded "Fight of the Night" giving both Kang and Bisping a $40,000 bonus.
Bisping next faced former PRIDE Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva on 21 February 2010 at UFC 110. Wanderlei Silva's ability to flurry in the final seconds of the second and third rounds, two knockdowns and an attempted guillotine choke contributed to his victory by a clear unanimous decision (29–28, 29–28, 29–28).
Bisping defeated Dan Miller by unanimous decision on 29 May 2010 at UFC 114.
Bisping faced and defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama on 16 October 2010 at UFC 120, winning 30–27 on all three judges' scorecards. The fight was awarded Fight of the Night honours. Though Bisping was rocked early in the fight by Akiyama, he regained his composure and landed combos repeatedly on Akiyama to sweep all three judges scorecards.
Bisping faced off in an emotionally charged fight against Jorge Rivera on 26 February 2011 at UFC 127. Both fighters had trash talked each other before the fight, having to be restrained at the weigh-in during a verbal argument. Bisping dominated the first round scoring a few takedowns until he delivered an illegal knee to the head of Rivera. A point was taken from Bisping and, after a lengthy halt to the action, the fight continued. The fight ended with a TKO from Bisping in the second round. After the fight Bisping spat at Rivera's corner and confronted Rivera on pre-fight comments that Bisping thought disparaged his family. Rivera denied the comments and tried to mend things but Bisping told him to "Go home" and called him a "loser." In the aftermath of the incident Bisping faced "disciplinary actions" and was fined. Multiple fighters have since come forward saying they want to fight Bisping in light of the incident including UFC middleweight notables Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Demian Maia, Alan Belcher, and Nate Marquardt.
On 27 May 2011, it was revealed that Bisping would be one of the coaches of The Ultimate Fighter Season 14, opposite to Jason Miller.
Bisping is expected to face Jason Miller on 3 December 2011 at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale.
Bisping has three children, with his wife, Rebecca. Bisping's third child was born just before he set off to the USA for final preparation in his fight against Dan Miller.
Bisping has family around the globe, including in Germany, England and the United States.
