IndyMediaLive

IndyMediaLive, first called "Richmond IndyMedia", was in the original line-up of shows on WRIR. We're proud to be the show where Richmond comes to hear what democracy sounds like since 2005.

Join us on March 13 to hear an important conversation
about recent anti-woman bills brought forth by members of the Virginia General Assembly. Representatives from Speak Loud with Silence, a grassroots group of organizers focused on women's reproductive justice, and Mothers Awakening, will be live in the studio. Be sure to tune in at 12:30 PM on 97.3 FM, and listen again on March 14 at 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM on the webstream at www.wrir.org.

The Rainbow Minute

Today's Rainbow Minute is at 7.59, 12.29 and 4.59. You can hear Melinda Skinner reading "The Jane Addams Stamp"...

...Born the youngest of eight children in Cedarville, Illinois in 1860, Jane Addams grew up to be a role model for middle-class women.  She was a pioneer settlement worker and founded the Hull House, a social welfare center in Chicago. An overachiever, she was also an author, sociologist, and leader of woman suffrage and world peace.  In 1931, she became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1940, the U.S. Post Office Department posthumously honored Addams in their Famous American Stamp Series by issuing a 10 cent stamp featuring her portrait.

During Addams’ life, she had relationships with Ellen Starr and Mary Rozet Smith, then described as “romantic friendships” or Boston Marriages.”

The Onslaught Continues…

Live Album Month continues with a doozy... epicly long performance from Warren Zevon in 2000. After playing some New York City songs because I was inspired by the Haberdasher, and some awesome tunes I felt like hearing, to fill in the tiny gap before the live album starts.

Mermaid Avenue

Hey Listeners,

First of all - thanks for your support.  WRIR did it again - we met our goal for the fund drive.  Great job Richmond!

Sorry I missed last week.  I was visiting a some friends in NYC.  While away I landed on the them for tonight's show.  It'sa NYC show of sorts.  I'll spend the first hour playing Woody Guthrie covers and tracks.  Woody lived in NYC in the 40s and his time there had a real impact on his music and songwriting.  I'll spotlight Jay Farrar's latest release, New Multitides, a project similar to his ex-bandmate's Mermaid Avenue.  I'll also find time in the first hour for new releases from Springsteen, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Justin Townes Earle.

In the second hour I'll play some tracks recognized by Time Out New York magazine as some of the 100 Best Songs about NYC.  So sit back and enjoy.

The Haberdasher

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

Thank you for not making me come in and beg for money again. Man it feels good to have hit our mark.

I honestly love fund drive time around the station. I get to spend time with some of my favorite people. Nothing like a bunch of like minded weirdos united behind one common goal of keeping this kick ass place running.

Let's rock.
