Carl Alfalfa Switzer: His Flame Lives On
*comments by approval only* Be sure to "like" my Facebook fan page for Carl at www.facebook.com January 21, 2012 makes 53 years that Carl has left us. This tribute is much shorter than other tributes that I've done in the past for this significant date. Lately, I realized how quickly I grow tired of making such deep & emotional tributes to Alfie, as I put my whole heart into each one. It drains my emotions out! Although his death was sad & cruel, he did lead a life that in fact had it's high points as well. I'd like to remember him for the absoulte joy he brought to each one of his characters, no matter how small or large the part. He always did his best, and he never gave up. He was never looking to become a huge hollywood star, and he was grateful for all that he was able to do, and had done when he was a child. It wasn't so that he "struggled" to find work in Hollywood during his later years, because he was perfectly content with the lifestyle he led, as his passion, and interest was hunting....he did a fine job at it! For a while he chose to take a step back from Hollywood, but still always remained a close distance, if acting gigs called him, he went and did it! His love of his hunting dogs & dogs in general was big....but sadly he was senselessly killed over that subject at the young age of 31. Carl, I will love you forever. You will never be forgotten! Thank you, pal! (Some photos/scans featured in the video are from my personal collection)

ALFALFA: What's It All About?
[Please read] Carl Switzer in all his glory as "Alfie." The question you must answer: "Are we meant to take more than we give / or are we meant to be kind?"—Hal David... OR ...are cowlicks, freckles, and toothlessness "in" or "out"? A musing video uploaded in memory of Carl Switzer (1927-1959). At Hal Roach Studios (and later MGM), Carl was a one-of-a-kind child actor and "Our Gang's" resident hero and ham. Envy the boy crooner his definitive interpretations of many great standard songs like "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain" and "Little Brown Jug." Envy the boy lothario his romantic conceit and would-be conquests (think Darla). Clips fondly culled from film producer Hal Roach's 1935-1938 "Our Gang" short films.IMPORTANT: Questions or comments are sincerely welcome—but only if they are nice, clean, and comprehendible. If you are a professional and prefer that I delete this video, please contact me and it will promptly be done. Submitted with goodwill and good cheer to Alfie's admiring audiences everywhere. Video also dedicated in memory of child actress Darla Hood and with great admiration for Anita Kerr, singer and music arranger nonpareil. The music for "Alfie" was composed by Burt Bacharach; lyrics by Hal David.

My visit with Carl Switzer at Hollywood Forever Cemetery...
Be sure to "like" my Facebook fan page for Carl at www.facebook.com On June 12 I went to Hollywood for a few days, and was blessed enough to have stayed at my cousins house. I used June 13th as my day to visit my number one boy, Alfie. (as well as Darla Hood, and a few others!) The cemetery is so large I didn't have time to visit everyone I had on my list, but of course, I made Alfie my priority. It had been 5 years since I last visited him, and knowing how emotional it was for me when I was 16, I really wanted to take everything in this time, and document my new visit moment by moment. Not all of my footage is included, of course. It was a beautiful day, and I was blessed to be able to visit him without any interruptions from the security...after I left Alfie, that was a different story. All that matters is I got to stay with him and have some nice quality time for a while. I played my favorite video clips of him, having his voice echo throughout the area where I was. I laughed, I cried, I talked with him. I left him some pretty things, and I know he loves everything I did. I doubt he's ever had that much of a tribute thrown for him at his resting place, so i was honored to have done that. I made this video not only to share with others, but to have something I can look back on and smile. In this video at the end I also included some clips of the home where he was fatally shot....that wasn't a light hearted experience by any means....but, I hope next time to get better ...

Carl Alfalfa Switzer: Remembered 52 Years Later
Be sure to "like" my Facebook fan page for Carl at www.facebook.com My tribute in remembrance of the 52nd Anniversary of Carl Switzer's, sad & untimely death. In 2007, I had made a 50 year tribute, sadly that was on my old channel, that I no longer have. I couldn't add half as much I would have liked too. It got up to 10 minutes very quickly, even though I edited down every clip! haha. I hope that you all will enjoy these rare clips of our pal. All clips used have been personally invested in...some, as you can see are rare. Thank you for your time, and for remembering this delightful character actor. Here I am speaking to Carl...although you can barely hear me, and I was stumbling over my words. I was reflecting on how he should still be here with us...how I should not have to come to such a place to visit him...what happened to him should never have happened. I love you, Alfie.

Soundie - Alfalfa Sings - Come Home, Father
The obnoxiuos singing of Carl (Alfalfa) Switzer highlights this 1941 Soundie from my late Uncle Bud's collection. The production also features Snub Pollard and the Henry King Orchestra. Sadly my film had lost both its very beginning and it's final moments to deterioration, but it still offers enough of the footage to make you wince appropriately. I hope you enjoy this addition to my video offerings.

Carl Alfalfa Switzer one of the Little Rascals, Our Gang kids.
What can the United States Navy do when they make a very boring flight-training film? Get a 19 year old "Alfalfa" to add comic relief. 2/3rds of the dull stuff is whittled out, but every scene with Alfalfa remains. Sorry for the poor quality, tha's all we can get, better than nothing! A rare video even IMDB doesn't have this listed. Enjoy!
