Mongolia generaal hero who fought for independence, he was born in 1893 February 2 in Ikh Huree.Noin 14 years of age, Sukhbaatar was fortunate the opportunity to receive education, which Zaisan Jamyan.Kun Mongolia's first declaration of independence in 1911, Sukhbaatar drafted the new nation's army. Sukhbaatar died in 1923 of February 20, about 30 years old, died. Today, his statue is located in front of the government palace. Suhkbaatar Mongolia is a Mongol hero and great leader.

Sükhbaatar Square (Mongolian: Сүхбаатарын талбай, pronounced Sükhbaatariin Talbai) is the central square of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It is named after and features a statue of Damdin Sükhbaatar, leader of Mongolia's 1921 revolution. It is located right in front of the Saaral Ordon. Major buildings on the square include the Government Palace, the Golomt Bank, the Central Post Office, the Culture Palace and, until 2005, the Sükhbaatar mausoleum. Besides the Sükhbaatar monument in the middle of the square, one can find several other statues at the square: those of Genghis Khan and two of his generals in front of the Government House, a monument for Jamsrangiin Sambuu on the northwestern corner, and another one for Sanjaasürengiin Zorig across the intersection on the southwestern corner. photos by www.suuder.com

To mark 20 years of partnership between USAID and Mongolia, we asked Mongolians to tell us about how they, and their country, have changed during that time. Sukhbaatar was the director of the energy authority in Khuvsgul province when the provincial center had no electricity. USAID provided five diesel generators to power the city in 1998 and 2000, which are still used today as back-up energy sources.
