John Paul Cusack (born June 28, 1966) is an American film actor and screenwriter. He has appeared in more than 50 films, including ''Say Anything...'', ''Grosse Point Blank'', ''The Thin Red Line'', ''Stand by Me'', ''Con Air'', ''Being John Malkovich'', ''High Fidelity'', ''Serendipity'', ''Runaway Jury'', ''The Ice Harvest'', ''1408'', ''Igor'', ''2012'' and ''Hot Tub Time Machine''.

Early life

Cusack was born in Evanston, Illinois, to an Irish Catholic family. His father, Dick Cusack (1925–2003), was also an actor, as are his siblings Ann, Joan, Bill and Susie. His father was also a documentary filmmaker, owned a film production company, and was a friend of activist Philip Berrigan. Cusack's mother, Nancy (née Carolan), is a former mathematics teacher and political activist. Cusack spent a year at New York University before dropping out, saying that he had "too much fire in [his] belly".

Career

Cusack gained fame in the mid-1980s after appearing in teen movies such as ''Better Off Dead'', ''The Sure Thing'', ''One Crazy Summer'', and ''Sixteen Candles''. Cusack made a cameo in the 1988 music video for "Trip At The Brain" by Suicidal Tendencies. In 1989 he starred as Lloyd Dobler in Cameron Crowe's ''Say Anything...''. His roles broadened in the late 1980s and early 1990s with more serious-minded fare such as the politically themed ''True Colors'' and the film noir thriller ''The Grifters''. He was later offered the role of the title character of Fred in the film "Drop Dead Fred", but dropped out due to a death in his family.

Cusack experienced box office success with his roles in the dark comedy ''Grosse Pointe Blank'' and the Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster ''Con Air''. In the years since, his range of films has diversified, appearing in roles such as an obsessive puppeteer in ''Being John Malkovich'', a lovelorn record store owner in ''High Fidelity'', and a Jewish art dealer mentoring a young Adolf Hitler in ''Max''. He starred in the horror film ''1408'', based on Stephen King's short story of the same name. He next appeared as a widowed father in the Iraq War-themed drama ''Grace is Gone'' and as assassin Brand Hauser in the dark political satire, ''War, Inc.'', along with Hilary Duff and Marisa Tomei.

His sister Joan Cusack and close friend Jeremy Piven have appeared in many of his films. The siblings appeared as two geeks in ''Sixteen Candles'': John as one of Farmer Ted's posse, and Joan as the geek with the neck brace. They also appeared together in ''Say Anything'', ''Grosse Pointe Blank'', ''High Fidelity'', ''Cradle Will Rock'', ''Martian Child'', and ''War, Inc.''. Piven and Cusack played opposite one another in ''One Crazy Summer'', ''Serendipity'', ''Say Anything'', and ''Grosse Pointe Blank''. Cusack also had a brief cameo, seen from behind but speaking a line of dialogue, in ''Broadcast News'', in which Joan also appeared. Piven also had roles in ''The Grifters'' and ''Runaway Jury''.

Cusack was next seen in Roland Emmerich's disaster film, ''2012'', which was released in theaters November 13, 2009; he played Jackson Curtis, a book writer and limo driver, with his ''Identity'' and ''Martian Child'' co-star Amanda Peet. Most recently Cusack was seen in ''Hot Tub Time Machine'', opposite Rob Corddry, Clark Duke, and Craig Robinson, which came out in March 2010.

Personal life

Cusack has an allegiance to both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox, for which, he says, he is "in trouble there for that." He has led the crowd in a performance of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" at Wrigley Field. He has also been spotted at multiple Chicago Bears games and attended many of the Stanley Cup Finals games in support of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Cusack has trained in kickboxing for over 20 years under former world kickboxing champion Benny “The Jet" Urquidez. He began training under Urquidez in preparation for his role in ''Say Anything'' and currently holds the rank of Level 6 black belt in Urquidez’ Ukidokan Kickboxing system.

Political views

Since May 2005, John Cusack has been an avid blogger at ''The Huffington Post'', including an interview with Naomi Klein. He has written extensively on his opposition to the war in Iraq and his disdain for the Bush administration, calling its worldview "depressing, corrupt, unlawful, and tragically absurd".

He also appeared in a June 2008 MoveOn.org advertisement, where he made the claim that George W. Bush and John McCain have the same governing priorities.

Stalking incident

In March 2008, police arrested Emily Leatherman outside Cusack's home for stalking the actor. On October 10, 2008, Leatherman pled no contest and received five years probation and mandatory psychiatric counseling, and was ordered to stay away from Cusack, his home and business for the next 10 years.

Graham William Walker, known by his stage name Graham Norton, (born 4 April 1963) is an Irish actor, comedian, television presenter and columnist. He is the host of comedy chat programme ''The Graham Norton Show'' on BBC One in the UK. ''Hot Press'' has described him as "the 21st century's answer to Terry Wogan", with both men sharing an Irish background and the common link of being a BBC Radio 2 presenter and the BBC television commentator of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Early life and career

Norton was born in Clondalkin, a suburb of Dublin, but grew up in Bandon, County Cork, Ireland. He was educated at Bandon Grammar School, in County Cork and then University College Cork but did not complete his studies.

In 1992 his stand-up comedy drag act in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as a tea-towel clad Mother Teresa of Calcutta made the press when Scottish Television's religious affairs department mistakenly thought he represented the real Mother Teresa.

His first appearances in broadcasting were in his spot as a regular comedian and panellist on the BBC Radio 4 show ''Loose Ends'', when the show ran on Saturday mornings, in the early 1990s. His rise to fame began as one of the early successes of Channel 5, when he won an award for his performance as the stand-in host of a late-night TV talk show usually presented by Jack Docherty. This was followed by a comic quiz show on Channel 5 called ''Bring Me the Head of Light Entertainment'', which was not well received as a programme, but did further enhance Norton's individual reputation as a comic and TV host. In 1996, Norton co-hosted the late-night quiz show ''Carnal Knowledge'' on ITV with Maria McErlane.

In 1996, Norton played the part of Father Noel Furlong in three episodes ("Hell", "Flight Into Terror", "The Mainland") of the Channel 4 series ''Father Ted''. Father Noel Furlong was often seen taking charge of a small youth folk-group.

Channel 4

After this early success, Norton moved to Channel 4 to host his own chat shows including ''So Graham Norton'' and ''V Graham Norton''. As a performer who is not only openly gay, but also camp and flamboyant, it was here that Norton's act was fully honed as a cheeky, innuendo-laden joker.

In 2003, he was the subject of controversy when, on his show on Channel 4, he made a comedic reference to the recent death of Bee Gees singer Maurice Gibb. The Independent Television Commission investigated after complaints about this insensitivity were forwarded to it and eventually Channel 4 had to make two apologies: one in the form of a caption slide before the show, another from Norton in person.

Also in 2003, he was listed in ''The Observer'' as one of the 50 funniest acts in British comedy (though Norton is Irish, the bulk of his television career has been in the UK).

In the summer of 2004, Norton moved across the Atlantic to start a new venture in American television. ''The Graham Norton Effect'' debuted on 24 June 2004 on Comedy Central, and was also broadcast in the UK on BBC Three. In the midst of controversy surrounding Janet Jackson's Super Bowl performance, Norton was wary of moving into the market.

BBC

In 2005, Norton moved to the BBC and began hosting the Saturday evening reality TV series ''Strictly Dance Fever'' on BBC One, as well as a new comedy chat show, ''Graham Norton's Bigger Picture''. He also read stories some nights on the BBC children's channel CBeebies as part of ''Bedtime Hour''.

In 2006, Norton hosted the BBC One series ''How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?'' in which Andrew Lloyd Webber tried to find a lead actress for his West End version of ''The Sound of Music''. Norton has subsequently presented the 3 follow-up series: ''Any Dream Will Do'' in 2007, in which a group of males competed to win the role of Joseph in the West End production of ''Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat''; ''I'd Do Anything'' in 2008, in which Andrew Lloyd Webber seeks to find the part of Nancy and Oliver for Sir Cameron Mackintosh's production of Lionel Bart's ''Oliver!''; and ''Over the Rainbow'' in 2010, following a similar format to find a new Dorothy for a ''Wizard of Oz'' West end Production.

Norton hosted various other shows for the BBC during this time, including ''When Will I Be Famous?'' (2007), ''The One and Only'' (2008) and ''Totally Saturday'' (2009). Since 2007, Norton has also been a regular host of The British Academy Television Awards. On 7 July 2007, Norton presented at Live Earth and undertook a trip to Ethiopia with the Born Free Foundation to highlight the plight of the Ethiopian wolf – the rarest canid in the world. In the same year, he was the subject of an episode of the BBC1 genealogy documentary ''Who Do You Think You Are?''.

Norton's chat show, ''The Graham Norton Show'', began on 22 February 2007 on BBC Two. Although in a format that he had not been involved in for 4 years, it is very similar to his previous Channel 4 shows. On 6 October 2009, the show moved to BBC One, in a new one-hour format.

In May 2010, he stood in for Chris Evans' breakfast show on BBC Radio 2. Later that month, it was confirmed that he would be replacing Jonathan Ross's Saturday morning slot on the same station.

In December 2011, the panel show ''Would You Rather...? with Graham Norton'' premiered on BBC America in the time slot immediately following ''The Graham Norton Show''. Recorded in New York, it is one of BBC America's earliest efforts at producing original programming, and is also the first panel game the channel has shown, either of British or American origin.

In January 2012, he called on listeners to his Radio 2 show to help find his car hours after it was stolen. He called it "The Great Car Hunt" and told listeners to “Keep your eyes out for it. It was filthy by the way."

Eurovision

Norton hosted the first annual ''Eurovision Dance Contest'' alongside Claudia Winkleman which was held on 1 September 2007 in London, England. The format was based on the BBC's ''Strictly Come Dancing'' and the EBU's ''Eurovision Song Contest''. Norton and Winkleman also hosted the 2008 Contest in Glasgow, Scotland.

In October 2008, it was confirmed by the BBC that Norton would replace Terry Wogan as the BBC's presenter for the UK heats of the ''Eurovision Song Contest'', in a show to be called ''Your Country Needs You''.

On 5 December 2008 it was announced that Norton would also take over from Wogan as the presenter of the main Eurovision Song Contest. The 54th Eurovision Song Contest was held in the Olimpiyskiy (Olympic) Stadium, Moscow on 16 May 2009.

Norton's jokes during his debut received some positive reviews from the British media. ''The Guardian'' noted his comments on Iceland's entry, which finished in second place, had "rooted around in a cupboard and found an old bridesmaid dress from 1987" and the Armenian singers, who finished in tenth place, were sporting traditional dress, "which would be true if you come from the village where Liberace is the mayor."

His comment “The bad news is you’re about to watch Albania. She’s only 17 so please bear that in mind. Where was her mother? Why didn’t she step in and say no?” which was made just before Albanian singer Kejsi Tola was set to take the stage dubbed an insult by many, sent ripples of outrage through not only Albania, but also the Albanian population in Britain.He then announced that Albania should get no points and that he didn't care what anybody else thought. There was a petition circling the net calling for a formal apology from Norton. The petition, which called his comment “very rude and insulting,” had drawn over 1,000 signatures.He never responded.

In 2011, he snarked that if Jedward's entry into the competition that year won, the twins would never sleep again. In the end, they were eighth. Earlier in that year's televote, he joked "Quick, someone take a picture", when The British entry that year went temporarily in the lead early on after high votes from Russia(4), Bulgaria(12) and Italy(10). In the end, the song dropped down the 11th, earning 100 points. Very annoyed, Norton claimed 'We were better than Jedward'.

Other

In July 2000 Graham was one of three judges of the Miss Lesbian Beauty Contest 2000 held at The Talk of London, Drury Lane. The contest was won by 42 year old Carol Hutchins who wowed the audience with her sit-down comedy routine from a wheelchair. Graham described Carol as a "very bright, funny lady."

Graham Norton played Mr. Puckov in the 2006 American comedy spoof film ''Another Gay Movie''. In 2007, Norton played Taylor in the romantic comedy film ''I Could Never Be Your Woman''.

Norton was involved in a high-publicity advertising campaign for the UK National Lottery as an animated unicorn, the stooge to a character based on Lady Luck (played by Fay Ripley). He has also advertised McVitie's biscuits.

In 2007, Norton featured in Girls Aloud and Sugababes' Comic Relief video for the single "Walk This Way."

In January 2009, Norton made his West End stage debut in a revival of ''La Cage Aux Folles'' at the Playhouse Theatre.

Since 2009, Norton has been the host of the comedy game-show ''Most Popular'' on US cable television channel WE tv.

Norton currently writes an advice column in ''The Daily Telegraph'' newspaper. In October 2010, these columns were made into a book entitled ''Ask Graham'', published by John Blake Publishing.

Personal life

Norton has stated that he felt "out of place" growing up in Ireland; his family are Protestant yet the Republic of Ireland is overwhelmingly Catholic. Norton took part in the TV programme, ''Who Do You Think You Are?'', to trace his ancestry. It was discovered that his family were originally planters sent over from England to take over Irish land. Some members of his family had fought for the British Monarchy during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 and taken part in a massacre of Catholics in Carnew Castle. Another member of his family was later killed in battle by the United Irishmen. Norton said he was comforted to find out that his family had resided in Ireland for generations.

In 1989 while living in London, Norton was mugged, beaten and stabbed by a group of attackers on the street. He says he lost half his blood and nearly died, and he was hospitalised for two and a half weeks.

Norton is openly gay.

Norton suffers from vitiligo, a skin disorder in which patches of depigmented skin occur.

Norton caused controversy on 7 October 2006, when he described ecstasy as "fantastic."

Immediately after hosting the BAFTAs in 2009, he said he returned home only to fall down his stairs and break two ribs. Some sources claimed that he presented the next Graham Norton Show on crutches, but this is not true, although he did make a comment about it, related to ''Pushing Daisies'', by saying "in ''Pushing Daisies'' people die in all sorts of bizarre ways... someone else was killed by a man dressed as a crash-test dummy, and some idiot almost died when he got drunk and fell down the stairs after presenting the BAFTAs. As if that could happen in real life!"

Alice Sophia Eve (born 6 February 1982) is an English actress. She is known for her lead in ''She's Out of My League'' and also appeared in ''Sex and the City 2''. She will also star in the up-coming ''The Decoy Bride'' and ''Men in Black III''.

Early life

Eve was born in London, England, the daughter of actors Trevor Eve and Sharon Maughan. She has two younger brothers, Jack and George. Eve is of English, Welsh, and Irish descent. She attended Bedales School and then took her A-Levels at Westminster School in London. During her gap year, she studied at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and then read English at St Catherine's College, Oxford. While at Oxford, she appeared in student productions of ''An Ideal Husband'', ''Animal Crackers'' (which toured to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival), ''Scenes from an Execution'' and ''The Colour of Justice''.

Career

Eve has starred in television dramas including the BBC's ''The Rotters' Club'', ''Poirot'' and ''Hawking'', as well as the film ''Stage Beauty'' (2004).

Eve played significant roles in two 2006 films: ''Starter for 10'' and ''Big Nothing'' (in which she and co-star Simon Pegg used American accents). She spent the early part of 2006 in India working on a drama mini-series ''Losing Gemma'' about backpackers.

Eve has appeared in two plays, both directed by Trevor Nunn. In 2006, she appeared in ''Rock 'n' Roll'', a new play by Tom Stoppard at the Royal Court Theatre and reprised her role in the 2007 Broadway transfer. For her performance, she was nominated for the best supporting actress award at the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards. In 2009, she played Roxane in a production of ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

She starred in the 2010 U.S. film ''She's Out of My League''. In the film, her parents play the roles of her character's parents. She also played the role of Charlotte's Irish nanny, Erin, in ''Sex and the City 2''.

Personal life

Eve lives in London and Los Angeles. She has dated popstar Ben Adams, actor Rafe Spall, whom she met while working on ''The Rotters Club''. In April 2009, she started dating a poet, Adam O'Riordan, whom she met when they were both undergraduates at Oxford.

Eve has different colour eyes (heterochromia); one eye is green and the other is blue.

Goldie Jeanne Hawn (born November 21, 1945) is an American actress, film director, producer, and occasional singer. Hawn is known for her roles in ''Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In'', ''Private Benjamin'', ''Foul Play'', ''Overboard'', ''Bird on a Wire'', ''Death Becomes Her'', ''The First Wives Club'', and ''Cactus Flower'', for which she won the 1969 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She is the mother of actors Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson. Hawn has maintained a relationship with actor Kurt Russell since 1983.

Early life

Hawn was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Laura (née Steinhoff), a jewelry shop/dance school owner, and Edward Rutledge Hawn, a band musician who played at major events in Washington. She was named after her mother's aunt. She has a sister, Patricia; her brother, Edward, died before she was born. Through her father, Hawn is a direct descendant of Edward Rutledge, the youngest signatory of the Declaration of Independence. Hawn was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland where she went to Montgomery Blair High School. Her father was Presbyterian and her mother was Jewish, the daughter of immigrants from Hungary; Hawn was raised in Judaism.

Hawn began taking ballet and tap dance lessons at the age of three, and danced in the chorus of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo production of ''The Nutcracker'' in 1955. She made her stage debut in 1961, playing Juliet in a Virginia Shakespeare Festival production of ''Romeo and Juliet''. By 1964, she ran and taught in a ballet school, having dropped out of American University, where she was majoring in drama. In 1964, Hawn made her professional dancing debut in a production of ''Can-Can'' at the Texas Pavilion of the New York World's Fair. She began working as a professional dancer a year later, and appeared as a go-go dancer in New York City.

Career

1960s

Hawn began her acting career as a cast member of the short-lived situation comedy ''Good Morning, World'' during the 1967-1968 television season, her role being that of the girlfriend of a radio disc jockey, with a stereotypical "dumb blonde" personality. Her next role, which brought her to international attention, was as one of the regular cast members on the 1968-1973 sketch comedy show, ''Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In''. On the show, she would often break out into high-pitched giggles in the middle of a joke, and deliver a polished performance a moment after. Noted equally for her chipper attitude as for her bikini and painted body, Hawn personified something of a 1960s "It" girl.

Hawn's ''Laugh-In'' persona was parlayed into three popular film appearances in the late 1960s and early 1970s: ''Cactus Flower'', ''There's a Girl in My Soup'', and ''Butterflies Are Free''. Hawn had made her feature film debut in a bit role as a giggling dancer in the 1968 film ''The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band'', in which she was billed as "Goldie Jeanne", but in her first major film role, in ''Cactus Flower'' (1969), she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Walter Matthau's suicidal fiancée.

1970s

After Hawn's Academy Award win, her film career took off. She starred in a string of above average and successful comedies starting with ''There's a Girl in My Soup'' (1970), ''$'' (1971), and ''Butterflies Are Free'' (1972), as well as proving herself in the dramatic league with the 1974 satirical dramas ''The Girl from Petrovka'' and ''The Sugarland Express'', and ''Shampoo'' in 1975. She also hosted two television specials: ''Pure Goldie'' in 1971 and ''The Goldie Hawn Special'' in 1978. The latter was a sort of comeback for Hawn, who had been out of the spotlight for two years since the 1976 release of ''The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox'', while she was focusing on her marriage and the birth of her son. On the special she performed show tunes and comedy bits alongside comic legend George Burns, teen matinee idol Shaun Cassidy, popular television star John Ritter (during his days on ''Three's Company''), and even the Harlem Globetrotters joined her for a montage. The special later went on to be nominated for a primetime Emmy. This came four months before the feature film release of ''Foul Play'' (with Chevy Chase), which became a box office smash and revived Hawn's career in the film industry. The plot centered around an innocent woman in San Francisco who becomes mixed up in a murder plot. Hawn's next film, Mario Monicelli's ''Lovers and Liars'' (1979), was a box office bomb. In 1972 Hawn recorded and released a solo country LP for Warner Brothers, titled ''Goldie''. It was recorded with the help of Dolly Parton and Buck Owens. Allmusic gives the album a favorable review, calling it a "sweetly endearing country-tinged middle of the road pop record".

1980s

Hawn's popularity continued into the 1980s, starting with another primetime variety special alongside actress and singer Liza Minnelli, ''Goldie and Liza Together'' (1980), which was nominated for four primetime Emmys. In the same year, Hawn starred in ''Private Benjamin'', a comedy which was also her foray into producing. ''Private Benjamin'', also starring Eileen Brennan and Armand Assante, garnered Hawn her second Academy Award nomination, this time for Best Actress. Hawn's box office success continued with an assortment of pictures, including comedies like ''Seems Like Old Times'' (1980), ''Protocol'' (1984), and ''Wildcats'' (1986) — Hawn also served as executive producer on the latter two — and dramas like ''Best Friends'' (1982) and ''Swing Shift'' (1984).

At the age of thirty-nine, Hawn posed for the cover of ''Playboy'''s January 1985 issue. Hawn posed in a giant martini glass wearing nothing but a white collar shirt, a loosened black tie, and a pair of red stilettos. Her last film of the 1980s was opposite partner Kurt Russell for the third time in the 1987 comedy ''Overboard''.

1990s

Hawn's career slowed down after leaving Hollywood in the late 1980s, but revived somewhat in 1990 with the action comedy ''Bird on a Wire'', a critically panned but commercially successful picture that paired Hawn with action favorite Mel Gibson. Hawn had mixed success in the early 1990s, with the thriller ''Deceived'' (1991) and the drama ''CrissCross'' (1992). However, her role opposite Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep in the 1992 film ''Death Becomes Her'' garnered her much attention. Earlier that year, she starred in ''HouseSitter'' (1992), a screwball comedy with Steve Martin, which was a commercial and critical success. Hawn was absent from the screen again for four years while caring for her mother who died of cancer in 1994. Hawn made her entry back into film as producer of the satirical comedy ''Something to Talk About'' starring Julia Roberts and Dennis Quaid, as well as making her directorial debut in the television film ''Hope'' (1997) starring Christine Lahti and Jena Malone.

Hawn returned to the screen again in 1996 as the aging, alcoholic actress Elise Elliot in the financially and critically successful ''The First Wives Club'', opposite Bette Midler and Diane Keaton, with whom she covered the Lesley Gore hit "You Don't Own Me" for the film's soundtrack. Hawn also performed a cover version of the Beatles' song, "A Hard Day's Night", on George Martin's 1998 album, ''In My Life''. She continued her tenure in the 1990s with Woody Allen's musical ''Everyone Says I Love You'' (1996) and reuniting with Steve Martin for the comedy ''The Out-of-Towners'' (1999), a remake of the 1970 Neil Simon hit. The film was critically panned and was not successful at the box office. In 1997, Hawn, along with her co-stars from The First Wives Club, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler, were recipients of the Women in Film Crystal Awards.

2000s

In 2001, Hawn was reunited with former co-stars Warren Beatty (her co-star in ''$'' and ''Shampoo'') and Diane Keaton for the comedy ''Town & Country'', a critical and financial fiasco. Budgeted at an estimated US$90 million, the film opened to little notice and grossed only $7 million in its North American theatrical run. As of 2011, her last film appearance was in ''The Banger Sisters'' (2002), opposite Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Rush.

In 2005, Hawn's autobiography, ''A Lotus Grows in the Mud'', was published. Hawn has said that the book is not a Hollywood tell-all, but rather a memoir and record of what she has learned in her life so far. Hawn announced in an interview with AARP's magazine that her next film project would be called ''Ashes to Ashes'' and co-star her partner Kurt Russell. The film is about a New York widow who loses her late husband's ashes in India. As of 2011 the project has yet to go into production.

Personal life

Relationships and family

Hawn's first husband was dancer (later director) Gus Trikonis, who appeared as a Shark in ''West Side Story''; his sister Gina played Graziella, Riff's girlfriend. Her second husband was Bill Hudson, of the Hudson Brothers, the two divorced in 1980. They have two children, actor Oliver Hudson (born September 1976) and actress Kate Hudson (born April 1979).

Hawn has been in a relationship with actor Kurt Russell since 1983, when the two met again on the set of ''Swing Shift'' (they had previously met while filming 1968's ''The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band''). The couple have a son, Wyatt Russell (born 1986).

Hawn is stepmother to Kurt Russell's son Boston and she became a grandmother in 2004, when her daughter gave birth to son Ryder Russell Robinson. Hawn became a grandmother for a second time when her son Oliver and his wife, actress Erinn Bartlett, had a son Wilder Brooks Hudson in 2007. Hawn became a grandmother again in 2010 when her son Oliver had another boy, whom they named Bodhi Hawn Hudson. Hawn announced it via her Twitter. Her daughter Kate gave birth to her fourth grandson, named Bingham Hawn Bellamy, in July 2011.

Religion

Hawn became involved in Eastern philosophy in 1972. She is a practicing Buddhist and has raised her children in both Buddhist and Jewish traditions. She stated on the Larry King Show that she is a Jewish Buddhist, but neither more Jewish nor more Buddhist; in interviews, she also detailed that she never had to forsake her Jewish heritage to embrace Buddhism and that her Jewish religion and heritage come before Buddhism. Hawn travels to India annually, and has visited Israel, stating that she felt a strong identification with its people. She has been criticized by pro-Palestinian activists for her support for Israel and the Jewish National Fund. In 1997, she was one of a number of Hollywood stars and executives to sign an open letter to then-German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, published as a newspaper advertisement in the ''International Herald Tribune'', which protested the treatment of Scientologists in Germany.

Hawn founded and funds The Hawn Foundation, which teaches the Buddhist technique of mindfulness training; where fourth through seventh graders are instructed in mindful awareness techniques and positive thinking skills, then tested for changes in behavior, social and emotional competence, and moral development. A study by the University of British Columbia indicated that children who participated in the program increased significantly in the areas of optimism and positive emotions, while decreasing aggression. Hawn has been in negotiation with the Conservative Party to set up a school in Britain where her MindUp technique would be taught. Hawn realizes that many parents oppose bringing Buddhist methods into public schools, and stated: "There will always be people who see this as scary, or as some kind of Eastern philosophy that they don't want for their kids." Hawn adds, "Mindfulness gives kids a tool for understanding how their brain works, for having more self-control."

Marcus Alexander Brigstocke (born 8 May 1973) is an English comedian, actor and satirist who has worked extensively in stand-up comedy, television, radio and most recently musical theatre. He is particularly associated with the 6.30pm comedy slot on BBC Radio 4, having frequently appeared on several of its shows. Brigstocke also played a cameo role in Richard Curtis's romantic comedy ''Love Actually'' as Mike, a radio DJ who interviews Billy Mack (played by Bill Nighy).

Early life

Brigstocke attended two private schools. In Chichester he went to Westbourne House School before going onto King's Bruton School in Somerset. He also attended Netherton Hall School, a school for children with special needs, situated in Farway, Devon. He studied Drama at the University of Bristol, however he did not complete his degree.

Comedy career

Many of the central themes of Brigstocke's work were first addressed during his time as a student at the University of Bristol. While at Bristol he often performed in the comedy trio Club Seals, which later made the transition to TV in the series of short programmes ''We Are History''.

With a successful radio career including ''The Now Show'' with Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis ''The Now Show'' also provided an outlet for his fierce dislike of David Blaine, referring to Blaine himself as ''Git Wizard'', and his "Above The Below" stunt as Freakdangle. Brigstocke hailed the failure of Blaine's "Drowned Alive" as proof that Blaine is "not special; not magic; just a moistened git". He is increasingly enjoying mainstream success, recently having appeared on such broadly popular TV shows such as ''Have I Got News for You'' and ''Jack Dee's Live at the Apollo'' series.

Brigstocke plays an arts journalist named Marcus in the Neil Gaiman film ''A Short Film About John Bolton'', and a radio DJ in the Richard Curtis film ''Love Actually''. On 9 April 2006, Brigstocke appeared in BBC Radio 4's Classic Serial adaptation of ''The Code of the Woosters'' as Bertie Wooster with Andrew Sachs as Jeeves.

He hosts his satirical programme on BBC4, ''The Late Edition'', which has been described as "Newsnight with jokes". It is loosely based on the format made popular by the American programme ''The Daily Show with Jon Stewart''. This commitment led to his absence from the final two ''Now Show'' series of 2006, his place filled by other comedians referred to by the rest of the cast as "our replacement Marcus Brigstocke". He did however return to series in 2007.

Brigstocke's first stand up comedy DVD ''Planet Corduroy'', produced by Phoenix Film & Television Productions, was released in November 2007.

In April 2008 he and fellow comedian and snowboarder, Andrew Maxwell founded the Altitude Festival - a comedy and music festival in the ski resort of Meribel, in the French Alps.

In September 2008, Brigstocke was team captain for the recording of the first series of a new TV comedy panel debating show, ''Argumental'' for UK TV channel Dave, He is the Captain of the Red Team. In this, he competes against Rufus Hound with a variety of guest participants, under the chairmanship of John Sergeant.

In 2009, Brigstocke starred in the UK tour of the hit American live improv show, ''Totally Looped''.

His second stand-up show ''God Collar'' toured in 2009. In June 2010, Brigstocke announced that he had signed a publishing deal with Transworld to turn the ''God Collar'' Tour into a book.

He has also worked for television shows aimed at children for CBBC: Stupid! and ''Sorry I've Got No Head''.

''Pac-Man'' joke

One of the best-known jokes Brigstocke uses is an ironic commentary on the controversy regarding the influence of video games on children: This joke is frequently quoted on the internet and often attributed to famous figures in electronics (such as an apocryphal CEO of Nintendo, "Kristian Wilson," although Hiroshi Yamauchi held that position from 1949 to 2002), but Brigstocke vehemently claims authorship of the joke:

''Excuse My French'' (BBC2)

Brigstocke took part in the BBC programme ''Excuse My French'', which was broadcast on BBC2. On the programme he, Ron Atkinson and Esther Rantzen were immersed in the French language by staying in a classic French town in the Provence region, being compelled to adapt to the French lifestyle and speak the language. His ultimate assignment was to perform a live stand-up comedy act in French to a French audience, a task at which he excelled. According to the programme, he continues to learn French, and has since performed more stand up in France (predominantly in English, but with sections in French).

Brigstocke made his musical theatre debut as ''King Arthur'' in the UK tour of ''Spamalot'' for a limited engagement. He is currently starring in 'The Railway Children' as ''Albert Perks'' at the Waterloo Station Theatre.

''I Don't Smoke''

In 2000, a sample of a comedy sketch performed by Brigstocke, Dan Tetsell and Danny Robins as part of a Bristol University revue in which an individual assuredly proclaims that he is a non-smoker was featured in DJ Dee Kline's ''I Don't Smoke'', alongside another line from Jim Davidson.

The sample was used without the knowledge of the comedians until the voice of Brigstocke was recognised by Tetsell, who heard the track whilst shopping, resulting in the trio successfully claiming publishing rights for the track, which entered the UK charts at number 11.

Personal life

Brigstocke is dyslexic. During an appearance on the BBC TV show ''Room 101'', first broadcast in January 2007, he admitted to having had weight problems as a younger man, and was once in rehab for food addiction. He still battles with his excessive appetite. He was expelled from King's School, Bruton for "beastie-ing" a car (that turned out to belong to one of the groundsmen) and shoplifting from the local shops to feed both his alcohol needs and "excessive appetite". During his early adulthood, he was a goth.

During the early nineties he worked, part time, as a podium dancer at London nightclub the Ministry of Sound. He was also working on an oil rig at this time.

Brigstocke lives in Wandsworth with his wife and university sweetheart, Sophie Prideaux, whom he married in 2001 in West Somerset. The couple have two children.

Brigstocke likes snowboarding – he had set up a stand up tour in the Alps and a comedy festival called The Altitude Festival. He's performed in beatboxing battles on stage with Shlomo and Bellatrix.

During an episode of ''The Late Edition'' filmed in October 2007, Brigstocke 'admitted' being an atheist, and was presented with an ''Out Campaign'' T-shirt by his guest and atheist Richard Dawkins to which Brigstocke replied:

:Look at that. Outed, outed as an atheist and proud to be so''"

Brigstocke endorsed Caroline Lucas and the Green Party in their successful bid for the seat of Brighton Pavilion (UK Parliament constituency) in the 2010 General Election.
