An interview with the Director: Jeremy Sams
www.wizardofozthemusical.com During last week's technical rehearsals we caught up with The Wizard of Oz Director Jeremy Sams to see how things are going down at the (slightly windy!) London Palladium. Apologies for the slight inteference in the sound in some of our blogs from the theatre, this is due to the microphones being worn by creatives, cast and crew! Persuasion (1995) - Italian Aria by Jeremy Sams
This is me playing "Italian Aria", by Jeremy Sams. The original piece was composed for the film "Persuasion", an adaptation of Jane Austen's timeless novel. I apologize for the mistakes. Also, the piano needs a little tuning. My wish was to pay a heartfelt tribute to this beautiful film. No copyrights infringement intended. Hope you enjoy it! And thank you for watching.

Ashley Wool singing "Pirate Jenny" (Jeremy Sams translation)
The classic song from "The Threepenny Opera." Music by Kurt Weill, original lyrics by Bertoldt Brecht, and translation by Jeremy Sams (for the Donmar Warehouse production in 1990). It looks like I'm one of the only ones on YouTube who's used the Jeremy Sams translation, but it's my favorite! From Seth Bisen-Hersh's talent show at Don't Tell Mama. Who's Seth? GO FIND OUT, he's awesome. www.sethbh.com

The Enchanted Island - The Metropolitan Opera
In one extraordinary new work, lovers of Baroque opera have it all: the world's best singers, glorious music of the Baroque masters, and a story drawn from Shakespeare. In The Enchanted Island, the lovers from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream are shipwrecked on his other-worldly island of The Tempest. Inspired by the musical pastiches and masques of the 18th century, the work showcases arias and ensembles by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau, and others, and a new libretto by Jeremy Sams. Eminent conductor William Christie leads an all-star cast with David Daniels (Prospero) and Joyce DiDonato (Sycorax) as the formidable foes, Plácido Domingo as Neptune, Danielle de Niese as Ariel, and Luca Pisaroni as Caliban. Lisette Oropesa and Anthony Roth Costanzo play Miranda and Ferdinand. The dazzling production is directed and designed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch (Satyagraha and the Met's 125 anniversary gala). Cosi fan tutte
Jim Sharman's production, first seen in 2009, is not just a celebration of Mozart's genius: it is also a celebration fo the imagination, the creativity and the talent of a new generation. Ralph Myers, new artistic director of Belvoir Street Theatre, is set designer, Gabriela Tylesova has created the fabulous frocks and elaborate disguises. With an irreverent English translation from Jeremy Sams, this production is playful, surprising and true.
