The latest models are the Portégé M780 and R700. M780 features a flip and twist screen, which means it can be used as a notebook or a tablet. The device has a 12.1-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1,200 × 800 pixels, and comes with a stylus for scribbling notes, which slots into the side of the chassis when not being used. The M780 also has a 320 GB hard disk, and can be customized or upgraded to Intel Core i7 processor and 8 GB RAM.
One of the very useful feature of Portege M7XX series is the UltraSlimBay port/slot. UltraSlimBay port/slot can be used for a second hard drive, Second Battery, DVD drive or Weight Saver. Such a modularity was unseen in a laptop/tablet PCs of this form factor (12.1-inch screen). M7XX was a departure from traditional design for tablets; it features a central hinge but also locks nicely into the slots at the edges, giving it more rigidity and the system can be effectively used as a laptop.
R700 on the other hand is stylish and chic. It is lightweight with a strong chassis. This can be upgraded to Intel Core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM. It doesn't feature any UltraSlimBay options.
Early 2011, Intel Core released their new Sandy Bridge processors. Following that release, Toshiba have released their newest range of Portégé notebooks. Worldwide there may be more models, however the Australian range is known as the R830. All have minimum i5-2410M processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and Windows 7 Pro. As usual, they are ultra portable with 13.3 inch screens and each coming in under 1.5 kilograms.
