Massive march protests Zimmerman acquittal second day in a row

On the 14th of July, less than 24 hours after the acquttal of racist vigiliante George Zimmerman, the second protest in that same period marched from Malcolm X Park to join a rally at Howard University.

Just after midnight July 13-14,, a crowd assembled on U street in reaction to the acquital by the American "justice" system of racist vigiliante George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin.

Anti-Keystone XL protesters show up outside Obama speech

On the 11th of July, protesters against the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline showed up outside a hotel at 16th and M streets where Obama was scheduled to speak. The Sierra Club was heavily represented, the objective was to remind Obama to reject the pipeline.

Labor and Neighborhood activists rally against Wal-Mart blackmail, support passage of LRAA

On the 10th of July, labor and neighborhood activists held a rally outside the Wilson Building to support passage of the Large Retailer Accountability Act. It would raise the minimum wage in certian big box stores to $12.50 an hour. Wal-Mart has vowed to abandon at least half their plans to open stores in DC if this passes. Rev Hagler told them not once but twice to "Go to Hell" duing his speech!

Sierra Club, CCAN, others hold seminar on TPP and fracking in MD

On the 9th of July, the Sierra Club, CCAN, Climate Change Initiative of Howard County, and Public Citizen put on a presentation at a Howard County library about the TPP or Trans-Pacific Partnership. The focus was on the effect of the propposed TPP treaty on gas fracking, currently illegal in MD.

NSA Mixtape Bike Ride protests NSA surveillance of data

On the 4th of July, the "NSA Mixtape Ride" began at We-Act Radio's 1900 Martin Luther King Ave office in Anacostia. After winding its way through Anacostia, the ride took to the freeway to cross the 11th st Bridge.

Alternative Holiday Programming Censored at WPFW

Protesting an abrupt holiday programming change that eliminates alternative views on “Independence Day” and world affairs, Concerned Members and Supporters of WPFW (CMS) is issuing a statement and demonstrating today, Friday, July 5, beginning at 12:30 p.m. outside the temporary radio station studios at 1819 L St., N.W. in Washington, D.C. These actions are in response to the decision by station manager John Hughes to pre-empt vital news and public affairs programming in favor of playing all music on July 4 and July 5. Friday’s protestors will rally in support of Jay Winter Nightwolf, veteran Native American programmer, who plans to broadcast Friday in defiance of the unannounced pre-emption.
