Une légende dorée :
C'est à Palerme que Giuseppe Balsamo, fils d'un employé de magasin, voit le jour en 1743. Dès son plus jeune âge, le petit Giuseppe est turbulent. Entré au séminaire à douze ans, il se fait renvoyer à la suite de menus larcins. Son père le place alors comme apprenti chez l'apothicaire d'un couvent ; la manipulation des poudres et des onguents est une révélation pour le jeune homme. Il apprend l'art de la prestidigitation, élabore des potions de jouvence et enrichit ses tours par des manipulations chimiques. Devenu ''mage'', il vit en exploitant la crédulité publique. Dès cette époque, il se présente comme un expert en mystères ''Égyptiens''. Il épouse en 1768 une très belle femme, Lorenza Feliciani. Fille d'un petit artsan, intelligente et dévorée d'ambition, elle pousse Giuseppe à ne plus se contenter de tours à la sauvette et le baptise ''Comte de Cagliostro''. Elle-même devient Séraphina. Ensemble, ils partent faire fortune là ou personne ne les connaît. En Espagne, en Angleterre puis en France, le couple multiplie les succès en soulageant au passage quelques aristocrates de certains de leurs bien précieux. Ainsi Cagliostro s'empare-t-il de bijoux lors ''d'expérience Sataniques''. Il surprend son public par des dons étonnants de guérisseur et de devin. C'est à la même époque qu'il s'oriente vers l'Alchémie et l'ésotérisme dont il devient, contre toute attente, un adepte sincère.
La Franc-Maçonnerie Égyptienne :
Pour la première fois de son existence, Cagliostro semble se passionner pour ses recherches. Avec deux compagnons Lyonnais, Magneval et Saint-Costard, il effectue un travail ésotérique sérieux et profond. Se proclamant ''Grand Copte d'Asie et d'Europe'', il raconte qu'il est le fils déchu d'un roi de Trébizonde, recueilli tout enfant par le calife de la Mecque et initié aux secrets de la Perse, de l'Islam et de l'Inde. Il aurait ensuite parfait son éducation dans une secte Égyptienne, avant d'être instruit en Alchémie à Damas puis dans les laboratoires secrets des Chevaliers de Malte. Fort de savoir, Cagliostro entreprend de réconcilier religion, magie, Franc-Maçonnerie et doctrine Rosicrucienne autour du patrimoine de l'Égypte Antique qu'il considère comme le foyer originel de l'ésotérisme. Pour ce faire, il fonde des loges Maçonniques dotées d'un rite dit ''Égyptien'', à une époque ou la Franc-Maçonnerie connaît un essor prodigieux en France et que l'Égyptomanie est à son comble : les pyramides, les hiéroglyphes sont synonymes pour beaucoup de mystère et d'ésotérisme...
Séraphina ''Reine de Saba'' :
Cagliostro a conçu un système de ''hauts grades'' Maçonniques qui s'adresse à tout Maçon. Les ambitions affichées sont pourtant bien supérieures à celles de la Franc-Maçonnerie traditionnelle puisque les initiés censés accéder à la maîtrise de pouvoirs thaumaturgiques qui leur permettraient d'obtenir la régénération du corps et de l'âme. Pour ce faire, outre les réunions Maçonniques, les membres doivent pratiquer des retraites de quarante jours visant à les purifier. Le rite comporte peu d'éléments proprement Égyptiens ; il mêle d'avantage des savoirs tirés de l'Alchémie, de la Kabbale ou encore de l'astrologie. Des expériences médiumniques ont également lieu durant les tenues Maçonniques. Autre originalité du Rite Égyptien : il est ouvert aux femmes. D'ailleurs, Séraphina, rebaptisée ''Reine de Saba'', en devient la grande prêtresse. Très vite, la haute Maçonnerie Égyptienne fascine : les loges se multiplient et les Maçons s'y affilient, dont l'éminent Cardinal de Rohan. Toutefois, impliqué avec ce dernier dans l'affaire collier, Cagliostro doit quitter la France précipitamment. De retour en Italie, il y est pourchassé par la papauté pour ses pseudo-activités Sataniques. Emprisonné en 1789, il meurt en 1795. Le Rite Égyptien n'aura finalement guère été pratiqué, mais il a fait école au point que beaucoup aujourd'hui se disputent son héritage. Le mystificateur est devenu un ésotériste sincère qui a durablement influencé la Franc-Maçonnerie.

Alessandro Cagliostro
Count Alessandro di Cagliostro (Italian: [alesˈsandro kaʎˈʎɔstro]; 2 June 1743 – 26 August 1795) was the alias of the occultist Giuseppe Balsamo ([dʒuˈzɛppe ˈbalsamo]; in French usually referred to as Joseph Balsamo), an Italian adventurer.
Origin
The history of Cagliostro is shrouded in rumour, propaganda, and mysticism. Some effort was expended to ascertain his true identity when he was arrested because of possible participation in the Affair of the Diamond Necklace.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe relates in his Italian Journey that the identification of Cagliostro with Giuseppe Balsamo was ascertained by a lawyer from Palermo who, upon official request, had sent a dossier with copies of the pertinent documents to France. Goethe met the lawyer in April 1787 and saw the documents and Balsamo's pedigree: Balsamo's great-grandfather Matteo Martello had two daughters: Maria, who married Giuseppe Bracconeri; and Vincenza, who married Giuseppe Cagliostro. Maria and Giuseppe Bracconeri had three children: Matteo; Antonia; and Felicità, who married Pietro Balsamo (the son of a bookseller, Antonino Balsamo, who had declared bankruptcy before dying at age 44). The son of Felicità and Pietro Balsamo was Giuseppe, who was christened with the name of his great-uncle and eventually adopted his surname, too. Felicità Balsamo was still alive in Palermo at the time of Goethe's travels in Italy, and he visited her and her daughter.

The Castle of Cagliostro
The Castle of Cagliostro (Japanese: ルパン三世 カリオストロの城, Hepburn: Rupan Sansei: Kariosutoro no Shiro, Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro) is a 1979 Japanese animated action comedy film co-written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki in his feature-length directorial debut. It is the second film featuring Monkey Punch's master thief Arsène Lupin III, from his manga series Lupin III. The film was Miyazaki's first time directing a theatrical feature after having previously worked as an animator for Toei Animation and TMS Entertainment and directing several shows including Lupin III and two episodes of Lupin III Part II.
The Castle of Cagliostro follows gentleman thief Arsène Lupin III, who successfully robs a casino – only to find the money to be counterfeit. He heads to the tiny country of Cagliostro, the rumoured source of the bills, and attempts to save the runaway Clarisse from the Count Cagliostro's men. Lupin enlists his associates, Jigen and Goemon, and sends his calling card to the Count to get Inspector Zenigata, his longtime nemesis, to the castle. After becoming trapped in the dungeon under the castle, Lupin and Zenigata form a pact to escape and foil the Count's counterfeit operation and save Clarisse from her forced marriage to the Count.

Une légende dorée :
C'est à Palerme que Giuseppe Balsamo, fils d'un employé de magasin, voit le jour en 1743. Dès son plus jeune âge, le petit Giuseppe est turbulent. Entré au séminaire à douze ans, il se fait renvoyer à la suite de menus larcins. Son père le place alors comme apprenti chez l'apothicaire d'un couvent ; la manipulation des poudres et des onguents est une révélation pour le jeune homme. Il apprend l'art de la prestidigitation, élabore des potions de jouvence et enrichit ses tours par des manipulations chimiques. Devenu ''mage'', il vit en exploitant la crédulité publique. Dès cette époque, il se présente comme un expert en mystères ''Égyptiens''. Il épouse en 1768 une très belle femme, Lorenza Feliciani. Fille d'un petit artsan, intelligente et dévorée d'ambition, elle pousse Giuseppe à ne plus se contenter de tours à la sauvette et le baptise ''Comte de Cagliostro''. Elle-même devient Séraphina. Ensemble, ils partent faire fortune là ou personne ne les connaît. En Espagne, en Angleterre puis en France, le couple multiplie les succès en soulageant au passage quelques aristocrates de certains de leurs bien précieux. Ainsi Cagliostro s'empare-t-il de bijoux lors ''d'expérience Sataniques''. Il surprend son public par des dons étonnants de guérisseur et de devin. C'est à la même époque qu'il s'oriente vers l'Alchémie et l'ésotérisme dont il devient, contre toute attente, un adepte sincère.
La Franc-Maçonnerie Égyptienne :
Pour la première fois de son existence, Cagliostro semble se passionner pour ses recherches. Avec deux compagnons Lyonnais, Magneval et Saint-Costard, il effectue un travail ésotérique sérieux et profond. Se proclamant ''Grand Copte d'Asie et d'Europe'', il raconte qu'il est le fils déchu d'un roi de Trébizonde, recueilli tout enfant par le calife de la Mecque et initié aux secrets de la Perse, de l'Islam et de l'Inde. Il aurait ensuite parfait son éducation dans une secte Égyptienne, avant d'être instruit en Alchémie à Damas puis dans les laboratoires secrets des Chevaliers de Malte. Fort de savoir, Cagliostro entreprend de réconcilier religion, magie, Franc-Maçonnerie et doctrine Rosicrucienne autour du patrimoine de l'Égypte Antique qu'il considère comme le foyer originel de l'ésotérisme. Pour ce faire, il fonde des loges Maçonniques dotées d'un rite dit ''Égyptien'', à une époque ou la Franc-Maçonnerie connaît un essor prodigieux en France et que l'Égyptomanie est à son comble : les pyramides, les hiéroglyphes sont synonymes pour beaucoup de mystère et d'ésotérisme...
Séraphina ''Reine de Saba'' :
Cagliostro a conçu un système de ''hauts grades'' Maçonniques qui s'adresse à tout Maçon. Les ambitions affichées sont pourtant bien supérieures à celles de la Franc-Maçonnerie traditionnelle puisque les initiés censés accéder à la maîtrise de pouvoirs thaumaturgiques qui leur permettraient d'obtenir la régénération du corps et de l'âme. Pour ce faire, outre les réunions Maçonniques, les membres doivent pratiquer des retraites de quarante jours visant à les purifier. Le rite comporte peu d'éléments proprement Égyptiens ; il mêle d'avantage des savoirs tirés de l'Alchémie, de la Kabbale ou encore de l'astrologie. Des expériences médiumniques ont également lieu durant les tenues Maçonniques. Autre originalité du Rite Égyptien : il est ouvert aux femmes. D'ailleurs, Séraphina, rebaptisée ''Reine de Saba'', en devient la grande prêtresse. Très vite, la haute Maçonnerie Égyptienne fascine : les loges se multiplient et les Maçons s'y affilient, dont l'éminent Cardinal de Rohan. Toutefois, impliqué avec ce dernier dans l'affaire collier, Cagliostro doit quitter la France précipitamment. De retour en Italie, il y est pourchassé par la papauté pour ses pseudo-activités Sataniques. Emprisonné en 1789, il meurt en 1795. Le Rite Égyptien n'aura finalement guère été pratiqué, mais il a fait école au point que beaucoup aujourd'hui se disputent son héritage. Le mystificateur est devenu un ésotériste sincère qui a durablement influencé la Franc-Maçonnerie.

C'est à Palerme que Giuseppe Balsamo, fils d'un employé de magasin, voit le jour en 1743. Dès son plus jeune âge, le petit Giuseppe est turbulent. Entré au séminaire à douze ans, il se fait renvoyer à la suite de menus larcins. Son père le place alors comme apprenti chez l'apothicaire d'un couvent ; la manipulation des poudres et des onguents est une révélation pour le jeune homme. Il apprend l'art de la prestidigitation, élabore des potions de jouvence et enrichit ses tours par des manipulations chimiques. Devenu ''mage'', il vit en exploitant la crédulité publique. Dès cette époque, il se présente comme un expert en mystères ''Égyptiens''. Il épouse en 1768 une très belle femme, Lorenza Feliciani. Fille d'un petit artsan, intelligente et dévorée d'ambition, elle pousse Giuseppe à ne plus se contenter de tours à la sauvette et le baptise ''Comte de Cagliostro''. Elle-même devient Séraphina. Ensemble, ils partent faire fortune là ou personne ne les connaît. En Espagne, en Angleterre puis en France, le couple multiplie les succès en soulageant au passage quelques aristocrates de certains de leurs bien précieux. Ainsi Cagliostro s'empare-t-il de bijoux lors ''d'expérience Sataniques''. Il surprend son public par des dons étonnants de guérisseur et de devin. C'est à la même époque qu'il s'oriente vers l'Alchémie et l'ésotérisme dont il devient, contre toute attente, un adepte sincère.
La Franc-Maçonnerie Égyptienne :
Pour la première fois de son existence, Cagliostro semble se passionner pour ses recherches. Avec deux compagnons Lyonnais, Magneval et Saint-Costard, il effectue un travail ésotérique sérieux et profond. Se proclamant ''Grand Copte d'Asie et d'Europe'', il raconte qu'il est le fils déchu d'un roi de Trébizonde, recueilli tout enfant par le calife de la Mecque et initié aux secrets de la Perse, de l'Islam et de l'Inde. Il aurait ensuite parfait son éducation dans une secte Égyptienne, avant d'être instruit en Alchémie à Damas puis dans les laboratoires secrets des Chevaliers de Malte. Fort de savoir, Cagliostro entreprend de réconcilier religion, magie, Franc-Maçonnerie et doctrine Rosicrucienne autour du patrimoine de l'Égypte Antique qu'il considère comme le foyer originel de l'ésotérisme. Pour ce faire, il fonde des loges Maçonniques dotées d'un rite dit ''Égyptien'', à une époque ou la Franc-Maçonnerie connaît un essor prodigieux en France et que l'Égyptomanie est à son comble : les pyramides, les hiéroglyphes sont synonymes pour beaucoup de mystère et d'ésotérisme...
Séraphina ''Reine de Saba'' :
Cagliostro a conçu un système de ''hauts grades'' Maçonniques qui s'adresse à tout Maçon. Les ambitions affichées sont pourtant bien supérieures à celles de la Franc-Maçonnerie traditionnelle puisque les initiés censés accéder à la maîtrise de pouvoirs thaumaturgiques qui leur permettraient d'obtenir la régénération du corps et de l'âme. Pour ce faire, outre les réunions Maçonniques, les membres doivent pratiquer des retraites de quarante jours visant à les purifier. Le rite comporte peu d'éléments proprement Égyptiens ; il mêle d'avantage des savoirs tirés de l'Alchémie, de la Kabbale ou encore de l'astrologie. Des expériences médiumniques ont également lieu durant les tenues Maçonniques. Autre originalité du Rite Égyptien : il est ouvert aux femmes. D'ailleurs, Séraphina, rebaptisée ''Reine de Saba'', en devient la grande prêtresse. Très vite, la haute Maçonnerie Égyptienne fascine : les loges se multiplient et les Maçons s'y affilient, dont l'éminent Cardinal de Rohan. Toutefois, impliqué avec ce dernier dans l'affaire collier, Cagliostro doit quitter la France précipitamment. De retour en Italie, il y est pourchassé par la papauté pour ses pseudo-activités Sataniques. Emprisonné en 1789, il meurt en 1795. Le Rite Égyptien n'aura finalement guère été pratiqué, mais il a fait école au point que beaucoup aujourd'hui se disputent son héritage. Le mystificateur est devenu un ésotériste sincère qui a durablement influencé la Franc-Maçonnerie.
