This is Tuesday morning after Sandy hit on 10/30/12. Belmar Boardwalk and beach is basically destroyed and this is just on my street. My house is surrounded by 2 feet of water. Beahes south of Belmar like Pt. Pleasant, Seaside, Ortley Beach, etc has literally been wiped off the map. So basically had no clue how bad everything is. So we decided to go check it out and see for ourselves. We got to Belmar, NJ...parked our car on a side street 3blocks from the beach and saw a board from the boardwalk lying on the sidewalk, then we turn the corner and the street is filled with water, the lake was flooding houses and cars, then we walk up to the boardwalk and our jaws dropped. We really did NOT expect to see this..... After we tried to check out PT.PLEASANT, and couldn't get anywhere near, all streets are flooded, no way to check out that boardwalk. Then we get home to my moms who just got power back and look on the internet to see how bad seaside boardwalk is, LBI aerials etc. VISIT FOR UPDATES AS WE REBUILD OUR BEACHES!!! Today the Thirteenth Avenue Pavilion which housed the restaurant Matisse was torn down. McDonalds was located here for years. This was one of the last Jersey Shore pavilions that provided a place for socializing back in the day. It was demolished along with some other Jersey Shore landmarks in Belmar: Exit 98, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, Burrito Hut, the lifeguard station, the rest rooms, etc. are all history now.
