Dez Paul Cadena (born June 2, 1961 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American punk rock singer and guitarist. He was the third vocalist and later rhythm guitarist for hardcore punk band Black Flag. Cadena currently plays guitar with the Misfits having been the bands longest serving guitarist, initially joining the band alongside Doyle, Jerry Only & Robo for their 25th Anniversary Tour in 2001. He resides in Newark, New Jersey .
His father, Ozzie Cadena, was a well-known A&R man in the music industry, and the co-founder of iconic jazz label Savoy Records.
Dez Cadena joined Black Flag in 1980, replacing singer Ron Reyes. During the first year of touring with the band, his hoarse voice became a recognizable and often imitated style of singing in hardcore punk. Eventually, and due in part to straining his voice, Cadena decided he wanted to play guitar. Henry Rollins joined as vocalist, and for a period, Cadena played rhythm guitar alongside founder Greg Ginn, including on the seminal 1981 album Damaged.
Ron Reyes is an American musician most noted as the second singer for the Los Angeles punk rock group Black Flag. Reyes, who is of Puerto Rican descent, joined Black Flag after original vocalist Keith Morris had quit to form the Circle Jerks. Black Flag needed a singer to go on a tour to Vancouver, Canada, and had asked Reyes to fill in.
Ron Reyes was from a middle class family, His father owned a popular jazz shop in California and Ron grew up listening to his father's record collection. As a boy, Ron would hang out in the streets and listen to Black Sabbath and David Bowie while his friends sniffed glue and smoked cannabis[citation needed]. He remembers himself as an outcast in school, where the jocks would make fun of his KISS inspired glam rock fashion.
At the time of joining Black Flag, he was a street kid who had been following them since the beginning, and already knew all the songs. He also played drums in an early incarnation of Redd Kross, along with Greg Hetson, who went on to form the Circle Jerks with Keith Morris, and subsequently joined Bad Religion. On May 23, 1980, Reyes quit Black Flag mid-show at the Fleetwood in Redondo Beach. For the remainder of the gig, the band invited audience members onstage to take turns singing "Louie Louie". Reyes was drinking heavily at the time, and was tired of the fan violence and escalating police harassment.
Jerry Only (born Gerald Caiafa on April 21, 1959 in Lodi, New Jersey) is an American bassist. He is the current bassist and vocalist for the Misfits. He is credited with creating the infamous hair style known as the devilock.
Jerry Only joined The Misfits in 1977, just a few months after receiving his first bass as a late Christmas present. He would work at his father's factory during the week to help finance the band and play shows on the weekend. This would go on for several years until the band split due to differences between lead singer Glenn Danzig and the rest of the band. During this downtime, Jerry and his brother Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (the guitarist for The Misfits) formed Kryst The Conqueror. In 1995 Jerry settled a legal battle out of court with co-founder Glenn Danzig, effectively allowing him rights to The Misfits' name on a performing level, while they split the money on merchandising. He reformed the band with Doyle (who played guitar from 1980 to 1983), vocalist Michale Graves, and drummer Dr. Chud.
Marky Ramone (born Marc Steven Bell; July 15, 1956) is an American musician. He is best known for being the drummer for the Ramones, but has also played in other notable bands like Dust, Wayne County and the Backstreet Boys, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, and the Misfits.
Although he is not the original drummer (Tommy Ramone), Marky is the only living member of the longest-running Ramones line-up (15 years) which featured Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and himself.
Marc Bell started playing drums in 1971 for hard rock band Dust, which included Kenny Aaronson on bass and Richie Wise on guitar, and was produced by Kenny Kerner. Bell recorded two albums with the band, before getting into the punk scene. In late 1972, following the death of New York Dolls original drummer Billy Murcia, Bell auditioned as a replacement and was the only seriously considered alternative to the eventual chosen candidate, Jerry Nolan. In the mid-70s he played with Wayne County and the Backstreet Boys. Wayne County would go on to become rock's first transsexual singer. In the late 1970s, he joined Richard Hell & The Voidoids. He played on the Voidoid's first album, Blank Generation.
"Jack the Ripper" is the best-known name given to an unidentified serial killer who was active in the largely impoverished areas in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name originated in a letter, written by someone claiming to be the murderer, that was disseminated in the media. The letter is widely believed to have been a hoax, and may have been written by a journalist in a deliberate attempt to heighten interest in the story. Other nicknames used for the killer at the time were "The Whitechapel Murderer" and "Leather Apron".
Attacks ascribed to the Ripper typically involved female prostitutes from the slums whose throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations. The removal of internal organs from at least three of the victims led to proposals that their killer possessed anatomical or surgical knowledge. Rumours that the murders were connected intensified in September and October 1888, and letters from a writer or writers purporting to be the murderer were received by media outlets and Scotland Yard. The "From Hell" letter, received by George Lusk of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee, included half of a preserved human kidney, supposedly from one of the victims. Mainly because of the extraordinarily brutal character of the murders, and because of media treatment of the events, the public came increasingly to believe in a single serial killer known as "Jack the Ripper".
