Trans-Pecos Rat Snake
Hello, My name is Orry Martin: The Texas Snake Hunter. This documentary is about the Trans-Pecos Rat Snake (Bogertophis subocularis). These beautiful rat snakes have some of the most gorgeous eyes you will ever see. Their nice disposition and striking colors make them one of my favorite snakes to encounter.

Trans Pecos Herping
Some summer West Texas Herping. I did not put my hand in a venomous snake's face in order to get those striking shots. If you look closely, one cow humps the other. This is a serious video.

Trans-Pecos Ratsnake Pair
These two snakes were encountered near Lajitas Texas. They are both Trans-Pecos Ratsnakes. The larger one is a blond phase male. The smaller one is a normal female. They had their fun and went their separate ways into the desert night.

Orion Locations - Trans-Pecos Guide Service
Trans-Pecos Guide Service was established in 1983 to provide exclusive hunting opportunities for desert mule deer, whitetail, and javelina in West Texas. Since our inception our goal was to always provide the finest hunting opportunities to our clients that chose to hunt this unique region of the State. No other ecological region in the state of Texas can compare with the diversity and abundance of free-ranging native game that flourishes in the Trans-Pecos region. In addition to our desert mule deer and whitetail hunts we can now offer limited hunts for desert bighorn sheep, elk, antelope and quail.

Trans-Pecos Ratsnake Foraging
I encountered this Trans-Pecos Ratsnake (Bogertophis subocularis) crawling toward a bridge that is home to a sizable bat colony. I have previously encountered one other suboc eating bats at this bridge and assume it was heading there to forage for bats. After this video was shot, it consumed three or four bats.

Trans Pecos Copperhead
This Trans Pecos copperhead is owned by a friend of mine, and Im happy to say I have a pair of babies which are related to this one (same parents). These snakes have recently become an intense focus for me. I believe I have 2 males and 2 females. They're just babies though so I'll have to wait 2 years for them to color up like this one has. The voice in the background is Chris Jones of King Of Kings Reptiles just talking smack LOL

Texas' Independence Creek Preserve
The Independence Creek Preserve is a significant piece of West Texas' natural heritage. The pristine waters of this desert oasis make a substantial contribution to the Pecos River corridor wildlife community downstream. Furthermore, the creek itself sustains diverse and abundant flora and fauna including several rare and endangered species.

Subocularis Pair -One AOR & One DOR
I was collecting museum specimens with Andrew Brinker when we drove up on this scene. A Trans-Pecos Ratsnake (Bogertophis subocularis) was DOR ("Dead on Road" and live suboc that had apparently hoped to mate with it. See the video for what happened next.
