Modern Homes Rancho Mirage
Modern Homes Rancho Mirage
The Moroccan/Modern oasis known as the Davis House' is said to be the first built in Thunderbird Heights. Built in 1957, designed by Eggers & Wilkman AIA and was instantly published in a 22 page spread in House Beautiful. TH Robsjohn-Gibbings whose clients included Walter Annenberg, Aristotle Onassis, Elizabeth Arden and Doris Duke was hired in 1957 for all interior design. Perfectly proportioned, the bones of this home dig into the modernist's toolbox of space, geometry, and light; drawing heavily from classicism with masterfully hand-crafted decorative treatments. A bleached walnut dining room, oceans of carrera marble floors inside and out, hand craved walnut screens, antique bronze light fixtures, gold claw-and-ivory ball door pulls and a Norwegian rose marble master bath. 52 years later the owner and award winning set designer Miriam Seger have re-animated this important home in the spirit of preservation, with a contemporary nod to the iconoclastic original decor of Gibbings. 70378 Pecos Road Rancho Mirage, CA 92270 Offered at US$2495000 MLS Number 41370204 Year Built: 1957 Bedrooms: 4 Baths: 4.5 Living Area 7566 Sq. ft. Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 5. Free Ride (Edgar Winter)
Agua Caliente Casino, California, August 5th 2010. Free Ride is a song written by Dan Hartman and performed by the The Edgar Winter Group. The single, engineered by Jim Reeves, was a top 20 US hit in 1973. The song is featured in the movies Air America, Dazed and Confused, Jack Frost, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Days of Thunder and in the video games Prey and Cars. It is also used in the trailer for College Road Trip, as well as the trailer for the 2009 film The Damned United. It was covered by R&B group Tavares on their 1975 album In the City, and Christian rock band Audio Adrenaline (1995). Hartman himself covered the song later in his career. Hartman's cover as a solo artist appear in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The song is sometimes mistakenly attributed to the Doobie Brothers, perhaps because of the similarity in its style to their works. The 45 version is a different recording than the LP version, but both versions clock in at 3:08.

Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 4. Hang On Sloopy (Rick Derringer)
Agua Caliente Casino, California, August 5th 2010. "Hang On Sloopy" is a song by the pop group The McCoys which was #1 in America in October 1965 and is the official rock song of the state of Ohio and The Ohio State University. It was written by Wes Farrell and Bert Russell and is named for singer Dorothy Sloop (1913-1998), who used the name "Sloopy" on stage. The song was originally titled "My Girl Sloopy" and was first recorded by The Vibrations in 1964 on Atlantic Records (45-2222), becoming a top thirty hit. It was the title track of a live 1965 recording (released on Rhapsody in 1966) by the Ramsey Lewis Trio which earned a gold record. It has also been recorded by The Ventures (Liberty 1965) as well as by Arseno Rodriguez (Bang 1966), The Supremes (Motown 1966), The Kingsmen (WAND 1966), Little Caesar and the Consuls, The Yardbirds, Saving Jane, Jan & Dean (Liberty-LP "Folk'n'Roll" 1965), David Porter (Enterprise "Into A Real Thing" 1971) and Die Toten Hosen (2002). It has also been performed by Johnny Thunders and the Oddballs in a medley with "Louie Louie" and can be heard on the "Add Water and Stir" live Japan bootleg. In April 1985, a columnist for the Columbus Citizen-Journal, Joe Dirck, saw a wire service story about a proposal to designate "Louie, Louie" the state rock song of Washington and wrote a column about it. This goaded the 116th Ohio General Assembly into action and it designated "Hang on Sloopy" the state rock song by House Concurrent Resolution 16 ...

Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 15. What I Like About You (Wally Palmar)
Agua Caliente Casino, California, August 5th 2010. "What I Like About You" is a song by American rock band The Romantics. The song, written by Romantics members Wally Palmar, Mike Skill, Rich Cole, and Jimmy Marinos is featured on the band's self-titled 1980 debut album, and was also released as a single. Marinos, the band's drummer, is the lead vocalist on the song. The band filmed a music video for the song that appeared frequently on MTV during the early 1980s. "What I Like About You" was written by the group around a guitar part by Skill. The song's "Hey, uh-huh-huh" refrain was influenced by The Yardbirds' "Over Under Sideways Down" and Chuck Berry's "Back in the USA". The group recorded the song and the accompanying album at Coconuts recording studio in Miami Beach.[2] When first released, "What I Like About You" was already a popular song on the Romantics' concert playlist. In terms of record sales and radio airplay, however, the song was only a moderate success at the time of its release, reaching only Number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song did quite well in Australia however, reaching #2 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report) on its initial release. It was only towards the end of the 1980s, after the song had been licensed for use in television commercials for Budweiser beer, that "What I Like About You" grew to become one of the most popular rock anthems of all time. "What I Like About You" has become a staple of modern rock, appearing on ...

Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 9. Kyrie (Richard Page)
Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 9. Kyrie (Richard Page)
Agua Caliente Casino, California, August 5th 2010. "Kyrie" was a #1 hit song by the 1980s pop/rock band Mr. Mister, from their 1985 album Welcome to the Real World. Released in late 1985, it hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in March 1986, where it was #1 for two weeks. It also hit the top spot on the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart for one week, and was the band's only #1 single on this chart. In the UK the song peaked at #11 in April 1986. The words to "Kyrie" were written by lyricist John Lang who co-wrote the songs on all of Mr. Mister's albums. The music was composed by Richard Page and Steve George while on tour with Adam Ant. "Kýrie, eléison, down the road that I must travel Kýrie, eléison, through the darkness of the night" Kýrie, eléison means "Lord, have mercy" in Greek, and is a part of many liturgical rites in Eastern and Western Christianity. Kýrie, eléison; Christé, eléison; Kýrie, eléison is a prayer that asks "Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy". According to Page the entire song is, essentially, a prayer. There is a myth that singer Richard Page wrote this song while lying in a hospital bed following an unprovoked attack. John Lang has stated that he was the one who was attacked, three years before "Kyrie" was written, and that the incident has nothing to do with the song. The video for this song was directed by Nick Morris, and features the band in performance mixed with footage taken at the tail end of their Fall 1985 ...

Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 12. Frankenstein (Edgar Winter)
Ringo Starr - Live in Rancho Mirage - 12. Frankenstein (Edgar Winter)
Agua Caliente Casino, California, August 5th 2010. "Frankenstein" is a rock instrumental by The Edgar Winter Group from their album They Only Come Out At Night. In live performances of the song, Edgar Winter further pioneered the advancement of the synthesizer as a lead instrument by becoming the first person ever to strap a keyboard instrument around his neck, giving him the on-stage mobility and audience interaction of guitar players. The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for a week starting in May 1973, and sold over one million copies. It was knocked from the #1 spot by Paul McCartney's "My Love". Frankenstein reached #18 in the UK the following month. The song's title, coined by the band's drummer Chuck Ruff, derives from the fact that the original recording of the song was much longer than the final version, as the band would often deviate from the arrangement into less structured jams. The track required numerous edits to shorten it. The end result was pieced together from many different sections of recording tape using a razor blade and splicing tape. Winter frequently refers to the appropriateness of the name also in relation to its "monster-like, lumbering beat". (One riff was first used by Winter in the song "Hung Up", on his jazz-oriented first album Entrance. He later tried a variation on it, "Martians" on the Standing on Rock album.) Winter played many of the instruments on the track, including keyboards, saxophone and timbales. As the release's ...
