Frogner Park (Norwegian: Frognerparken) is a public park located in the borough of Frogner in Oslo, Norway, and historically part of Frogner Manor. The manor house is located in the south of the park, and houses the Oslo City Museum. Both the park and the entire borough derive their names from Frogner Manor.
Frogner Park contains, in its present centre, the world famous Vigeland installation (Norwegian: Vigelandsanlegget), a permanent sculpture installation created by Gustav Vigeland between the 1920s and 1943. Although sometimes incorrectly referred to as the "Vigeland (Sculpture) Park," the Vigeland installation is not a separate park, but the name of the sculptures within Frogner Park. The sculpture park consists of sculptures as well as larger structures such as bridges and fountains.
The park of Frogner Manor was historically smaller and centered on the manor house, and was landscaped as a baroque park in the 18th century by its owner, the noted military officer Hans Jacob Scheel. It was landscaped as a romantic park in the 19th century by then-owner, German-born industrialist Benjamin Wegner. Large parts of the estate were sold to give room for city expansion in the 19th century, and the remaining estate was bought by Christiania municipality in 1896 and made into a public park. It was the site of the 1914 Jubilee Exhibition, and Vigeland's sculpture arrangement was constructed from the 1920s. In addition to the sculpture park, the manor house and a nearby pavilion, the park also contains Frognerbadet (the Frogner Baths) and Frogner Stadium. The Frogner Pond is found in the centre of the park.
Frogner Park is the largest park in the city and covers 45 hectares; the sculpture installation is the world's largest sculpture park made by a single artist. Frogner Park is the most popular tourist attraction of Norway, with between 1 and 2 million visitors each year, and is open to the public at all times.

The biggest park in central parts of Oslo is a popular recreational area for people from all over the city.
On a nice summer day, Frogner Park is full of people; here you can go for a run, walk the dog, have a picnic or barbecue, play badminton or just do some sunbathing. Frogner Park has Norway's biggest collection of roses; a total of 14,000 plants of 150 different species.
Frogner Stadium and Frogner Open-Air Bath is located in one corner of the park, towards Majorstua. In the corner by Frogner plass, you find Frogner Manor House and Oslo City Museum. In the middle of the park is Vigeland Sculpture Park, Oslo's most visited attraction.
Frogner Park has a summer-open café and a restaurant. And children can play in Norway's biggest playground, located between the main gates and Frogner Manor House.

Frogner
Frogner is a borough and an exclusive residential and retail district in the West End of the city of Oslo, Norway. In addition to traditional Frogner, the borough incorporates Bygdøy, Uranienborg and Majorstuen. The borough is named after Frogner Manor, and the famous Frogner Park is now found on the site of the manor. In Oslo, and indeed in Norwegian popular culture, Frogner occupies a similar position as London's Knightsbridge, and has the highest real estate prices in the entire country.
The name
The borough is named after the old Frogner Manor. The Norse form of the name was Fraunar (plural form). The name is probably derived from the word frauð 'manure' - and then with the meaning 'fertilized fields'.
History
The area became part of the city of Oslo (then Christiania) in 1878. The borough was originally the ground and property of Frogner Manor, a splendid 18th-century country estate now housing the Oslo City Museum. The Frogner Park (Frognerparken) includes the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park.

I was born to a Norwegian mother and English father and spent my younger years growing up in a small commuting suburb just north of Oslo, Norway. At the age of 10 I received my first camera from my father, who in turn had received his first camera at about the same age, so you can definitely say that photography is in the family genes. My grandfather took extensive B&W; shots during the 2nd World War, which he developed himself in the field and colored by hand. From 10 years and onward I and the camera were inseparable. I have an educational background in media, drawing and fine art and try to create modern artwork through my photography. Eclectic architecture showing off the legendary Scandinavian flair for design, a buzzing party scene and a wealth of top-class museums and galleries have made Oslo Norway's cultural capital as well as its political one. With its late-night shopping, crowded cafés and restaurants, and theatres playing to full houses, Oslo has a self-assured and vibrant feel perfect for a city break. But don't be fooled by the cosmopolitan atmosphere; Oslo's suburbs are forested, semi-rural gems where hiking, swimming and even skiing are on offer.
One of the best ways to approach Oslo is by sea, with the journey taking you along scenic fjords where fishing boats jostle with cruise liners and luxury yachts. Located at the end of the 110km-long (70 miles) Oslofjord, Norway's municipal hub is one of the few cities where you can sail, ski and skate to your heart's content just a short distance from the city centre. As you float past luscious green islands and towering rocky outcrops, the city unfolds before your eyes - sprawling out from its compact centre around the quays to the forested flanks of the surrounding hills.
Made all the more beautiful by its diversity, Oslo boasts a jumble of modern and ancient buildings that give the city an eclectic feel, with the steel-and-glass Munch Museum giving way to the old-fashioned charms of the City Museum and the craggy medieval walls of the Akershus Fortress, which glowers out over the fjord.
To the north, the heavily wooded Nordmarka district has myriad fishing, blueberry-picking and walking opportunities, and there's a good chance you'll see some of the local wildlife such as lynx, roe deer, beavers and moose while strolling along one of the area's many trails. In the southern borough of Frogner, the Vigelandsparken (Vigeland Sculpture Park) is an unmissable blend of wide open space and the stunning (if surreal) creations of Gustav Vigeland, a modernist sculptor who holds a special place in Norwegian art history.
Equally wonderful is the National Museum, which is home to Norway's most famous painting, The Scream, and the futuristic new Opera House in Bjørvika. Along with the visual arts, cultural life in Oslo is awash with literary gems -- not altogether surprising given that the Norwegian capital is the birthplace of celebrated playwright, Henrik Ibsen. A trip to the spectacular rococo building that houses Norway's National Theatre to see Hedda Gabler in the original language and setting is a treat that's not to be missed.
Evenings in Oslo are characterised by the bustling crowds as the locals apply themselves to enjoyment with as much dedication as they do to business. The capital's thriving restaurant scene has seen it rewarded with four Michelin stars, although (somewhat surprisingly) you don't have to spend a fortune to eat well. The Grünerløkka district is close to the Munch Museum and is teeming with bustling little pavement cafés where you can buy a slap-up supper for reasonable prices. A thriving, truly vibrant city, the cosmopolitan heart of Norway really does have something for everyone.

Akershus Slott and Festning (Akerhus Palace and Fortress)
King Haakon V Magnusson ordered the building of Akershus Slott, in 1299. Although damaged, repaired, fortified and renovated over the centuries, the ancient walls and central medieval tower of this imposing fortified palace still dominate the seafront. The town was rebuilt within the fortress walls after the great fire of 1624. The 17th-century renovations of the castle, with magnificent banqueting halls and reception rooms, stand above dank medieval dungeons and underground passageways. The grounds also house the Norges Hjemmefrontsmuseum (Resistance Museum), with its poignant exhibits dating from the Nazi occupation of Norway.
Opening Times: Mon-Sat 1000-1600, Sun 1230-1600 (May-Aug); Sat-Sun 1200-1700, Mon-Fri closed (Sep-Dec). Guided tours of the Festning are available daily (Jun-Aug).

Frognerbadet
Next to the wonderful Vigeland Sculpture Park, the open-air swimming pool complex of Frognerbadet is one of the most popular summer spots in the city. With three open-air pools, including a diving pool, water slides and separate adult and children sections, the entire city seems to pack into the complex at weekends, although many Norwegians make the most of the glorious summer days, with everyone from families to groups of friends converging on the pools every single day of the week. The weekend often sees long queues so a morning visit is recommended. Frognerbadet is well equipped with changing rooms, toilets and a cafeteria.

The museum also hosts an ever-changing roster of exhibitions giving an insight into different aspects of Munch's oeuvre.

Located in the southern borough of Frogner, the sculpture park is one of Norway's most visited attractions with over 1 million visitors each year, although thanks to its large acreage, it never feels crowded.

largest Sculpture arrangement dedicated to one artist in

After the Vigelan Park the we go on to visit Bygdøy -
which is the Part of Oslo City where you find a lot

I was born to a Norwegian mother and English father and spent my younger years growing up in a small commuting suburb just north of Oslo, Norway. At the age of ...
I was born to a Norwegian mother and English father and spent my younger years growing up in a small commuting suburb just north of Oslo, Norway. At the age of 10 I received my first camera from my father, who in turn had received his first camera at about the same age, so you can definitely say that photography is in the family genes. My grandfather took extensive B&W; shots during the 2nd World War, which he developed himself in the field and colored by hand. From 10 years and onward I and the camera were inseparable.
I have an educational background in media, drawing and fine art and try to create modern artwork through my photography. My art is a fusion of my travels and experiences, especially that of the cold, bleak Norwegian winters and the vibrant colorful modern Britain, I try to create a "feeling" through my images, with my passion for detail and the obscure. In later years I have traveled extensively in Europe and also lived and worked in Ireland, Spain, Germany, Norway and the UK, and now I considered myself to be a "Eurocrat", something which definitely introduces a mixed cultural flair to my work.
I am influenced by my own personal struggles and I find art and photography a form of escape. A "tranquil place" where the line between fact and fiction is blurred stepping out of the boundaries are one of my specialties, it gives me a different perspective on the small things that often is take for granted. Social & economic turmoil, fighting for the weaker is often reflected in my work. Woman are created as angels, with the use of light and darkness. I like to distorts reality and often push the boundaries of erotic, sensuality and sexuality to the limit. I might balance on "the line" but I do not cross it. The most influential people in my style is Helmut Newton, Michelangelo and Salvador Dali. I often uses more then one medium when creating a picture. Often painting on top of them. In summary I am a art photographer with a fine art twist on my work.
