Kenneth "K.K." Downing, Jr. (born 27 October 1951 in Yew Tree Estate in West Bromwich, England) is a Grammy Award winning guitarist, songwriter and a founding member of the British heavy metal band Judas Priest. On April 20, 2011, Downing announced his retirement from Judas Priest.

Childhood

Downing dropped out of school when he was 12, and was kicked out of his house when he was sixteen. He had little ambition at the time, until he picked up the guitar.

Playing style and technique

Influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Downing bought his first guitar at the age of sixteen. According to an interview by Guitar One magazine, Downing found little support from his parents for his career of choice. This did not change even after Judas Priest achieved worldwide commercial success and critical acclaim. Together with his schoolmate and fellow band founding member Ian Hill, Downing has been solely dedicated to the band for more than 42 years. Downing has been noted for his aggressive, rock influenced guitar solos and dual leads with fellow Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton. His solos have remained of this style for most of his career, but he has incorporated various techniques into his playing over the years. As opposed to Tipton, his solos tend to incorporate a more raw, rough-edged sound, making use of techniques like pinch harmonics, dive bombs, and tremolo picking, and often focus on speed, technical accuracy and melody. In 1978, Tipton began to incorporate tapping into his playing, which Downing promptly began to use as well. By 1990, both guitarists started to use the complex technique of sweep-picking, which can be notably heard on the title track of their 1990 album ''Painkiller''. Both have continuously used these techniques ever since. Notable guitar solos are on such tracks as "Victim of Changes", the 2nd solo in "Beyond the Realms of Death", "Before The Dawn", "Sinner", "Don't Go", the 2nd solo in "Painkiller", and the live version of "Breaking The Law". Notable guitar duels are on such tracks as "Hellrider", "The Sentinel", "Ram It Down", "Metal Meltdown" and "Screaming For Vengeance".

In Judas Priest's early years, Downing made common use of the wah-wah pedal, but began to limit his use of it in the late '70s, and had abandoned use of it by the mid-'80s, save for during live performances of the songs that originally featured it. The only time since then that he has renewed use of it was in 1996, when vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens joined the band, and they began to experiment with their music more than before. One of these experimentations was the renewal of wah-wah in Downing's playing, which can be heard on their 1997 album ''Jugulator''. This experimentation was taken further on their next album with Owens, 2001's ''Demolition'', but was once more abandoned when the band's former vocalist, Rob Halford, returned to the band.

Retirement

Downing officially retired from Judas Priest on April 20, 2011. An official press release was issued by the band. The band decided to continue with Richie Faulkner as a replacement for Downing.

Homes

Downing owns a home in Spain, but his main abode is Astbury Hall in Shropshire, England. It is in a very secluded area so he can (as stated in a 2007 interview) "blast his Marshalls." Sarah Lissimore, his former girlfriend, mounted a legal challenge for half of Downing's Shropshire estate. This was based on his assertion, "I'd bet you'd love to be lady of this Manor, wouldn't you?". The High Court rejected the notion that this assertion could give rise to proprietary estoppel in favour of Lissimore.

Joseph "Joey" Muñoz (born January 20, 1979) is an American professional wrestler better known by his ring name Kaos (sometimes spelled as KAOS or kAos). He is best known for his work in Xtreme Pro Wrestling, Combat Zone Wrestling, Wrestling Society X and NWA Hollywood.

Career

Independent circuit Pre XPW

Joey Munoz, known as Kid Kaos, started training at age 14 in 1994.

Xtreme Pro Wrestling

Muñoz debuted in Xtreme Pro Wrestling on July 31, 1999, using the ring name Kid Kaos, and the nickname "The Rock Superstar". He was trained by his uncle, fellow XPW star Supreme. On August 27, 2001, he won the Television Champion would go on to become the longest reigning champion, holding the title for 18 months.

Santino Bros.

In addition to teaming with Supreme, Muñoz formed the Fighting Santino Brothers tag team with long time friend and training partner El Mongol which sees both men wear black masks as well be accompanied by their manager Jezebel. Muñoz also wrestles as a singles wrestler under his real name or by the ring name Kaos.

Post-XPW

Using the name Kaos, Munoz debuted in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) on September 11, 2004, at ''High Stakes: Always Bet on Black!'', challenging CZW Champion The Messiah. His first major storyline was a feud with Adam Flash, and on November 14 at ''Night of Infamy'', a match between the two of them ended in a no contest. In a three-way ladders and scaffold match for the CZW Championship on December 11, The Messiah defeated Kaos and Flash to retain. he also challenged B-Boy for the CZW Iron Man Championship on January 8, 2005, at ''GenZ: The Transfusion'', but was unsuccessful. In his last CZW appearance he lost to Flash in a falls count anywhere match at ''Only the Strong: Scarred for Life'' on February 5.

Wrestling Society X

In 2006, Muñoz taped MTV's Wrestling Society X (WSX), using the name Joey "Kaos" Munoz, and the episodes aired in 2007. While in WSX, he was member of the tag team Los Pochos Guapos with Aaron Aguilera. On the inaugural episode of WSZ, which aired on January 30, 2007, Munoz comepted in the WSX Rumble. On the third episode of WSX, which aired on February 13, Los Pochos Guapos lost a Tables, Ladders and Cerveza match to Alkatrazz and Luke Hawx, when Alkatrazz pinned Munoz after a powerbomb through a table. Munoz gained his first WSX win when he and Aguilera defeated The Filth and The Fury (Teddy Hart and M-Dogg 20) on an episode aired on March 14. On another episode aired that day, Los Pochos Guapos lost to The Cartel (Delikado and Lil Cholo) in their final appearance for WSX.

World Wrestling Entertainment

On November 5, 2007, Muñoz made an appearance on ''Raw'', using the name "Joey" in a losing effort against Snitsky. Joey Munoz and Russ Taylor participated in a losing effort against Vladimir Kozlov on the May 26, 2009 edition of ''ECW on Sci Fi''.

NWA Hollywood

Kaos was in the main event on the November 26, 2010 episode of NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood vs Joey Ryan. One of the highest rated in the shows short history. Kaos has since been in a feud with ''Dark Chocolate'' Willie Mack, main eventing the March 4, 2011 and March 26, 2011 episodes of the Television show.

Wrestling School

In January 2008, Kaos founded The Santino Bros. Wrestling Academy, named after his tag team. SBWA is a well respected and the elite pro wrestling school in Southern CA. Trainers include, Kaos, The Ballard Bros Shane & Shannon and Los Luchas Zokre & Phoenix Star.

Sunidhi Chauhan (; born Nidhi Chauhan on 14 August 1983) is an Indian playback singer, best known for her Hindi film songs in Bollywood. She has also recorded songs for Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati films and is credited with over 2000 songs.

Chauhan began to sing at the age of four and was discovered by a local TV anchor. She won recognition through a televised singing contest, ''Meri Awaz Suno'', which she won, and made her entrance into playback singing with the Hindi film ''Shastra''.

Her breakthrough was Ram Gopal Varma's film ''Mast'', in which she sang the hit song, "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi." She has been nominated for fourteen Filmfare Awards, winning it on three occasions. She has won two Star Screen Awards, two IIFA Awards and one Zee Cine Award.

Early career

Sunidhi Chauhan family hail from U.P she started her singing career as a child, giving her first performance at the age of four, in a local temple in Delhi. Thereafter, she began to participate in, and sing for, competitions and local gatherings. When local TV anchor, Tabassum, spotted her talent, her family shifted to Mumbai in a bid to further develop the young singer's skills, and Chauhan became the lead singer in Kalyanji's 'Little Wonders' troupe.

Recognition first met her in 1996, through the music show ''Meri Aawaz Suno'' — the first such televised contest in India — which was broadcast through the Indian national television channel, Doordarshan. She won the competition and bagged the top prize of recording an album, ''Aira Ghaira Nathu Khaira'', with HMV.

Unluckily for Chauhan, ''Aira Ghaira Nathu Khaira'' was promoted as a children's album and failed to get the recognition it deserved. In 2002, Chauhan herself observed this in an interview:

"My first song and the contest did not help me much. Nothing happened for a while. But by then, I had made up my mind that I will pursue singing as a career."

Chauhan stepped into the world of playback singing with the 1996 Bollywood film, ''Shastra'', after Aadesh Srivastava asked her to lend her voice to the song "Larki Deewaani Dekho, Ladka Deewaana." She followed it with work in films like ''Gang'', ''Veergati'', ''Dahek'', ''Bade Dilwala'', ''Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat'' and ''Samar''. By the age of nineteen, Chauhan had already lent her voice to over 350 songs.

Breakthrough and later work

Chauhan's breakthrough was Ram Gopal Varma's ''Mast'', in which she sang the hit song, "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" and three others, including the title song. In an interview, while speaking of ''Mast'', she said:

"Whatever I am today, I owe to ''Mast''. I met Sandeep Chowta through Sonu Nigam, and fifteen days later, ''Mast'' was in my lap. I was only sixteen then."

In February 2007, as part of its marketing campaign and launch of Windows Vista in India, Microsoft hired Sunidhi Chauhan to sing the "Windows Vista Song" titled "Wow is Now". This song features English and Hindi lyrics proclaiming the many 'glamorous' features of the Windows Vista operating system.

Chauhan sung for the Hindi-dubbed version of Disney's movie, ''High School Musical'' — songs which were sung by Vanessa Anne Hudgens in the English version. Moreover, she was the singer of the English language song "Reach Out" at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, Qatar.

2008 was a highly successful year for the young singer, as she went on to deliver a huge number of superhit songs like "Chhaliya" (''Tashan''), "Rock Mahi," "Lucky Boy," "Desi Girl" (''Dostana''), "Dance Pe Chance" (''Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi''), and "Race Saanson Ki" (''Race''), and which resulted in her winning the "Kelvinator GR8! FLO Women Award 2009" for her contribution to music.

In April 2010, Chauhan joined Anu Malik and Salim Merchant as a judge on the fifth season of the immensely popular singing talent show, Indian Idol 5.

Collaborations

Chauhan has collaborated with Indian singers such as Alka Yagnik, Shaan, Udit Narayan, and is known for her popular pairing with Sukhwinder Singh (in films such as ''Omkara and Aaja Nachle''). She is most often paired with singer Sonu Nigam, and with the successful female playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, whom many view as a stiff competition for Chauhan.

She has also collaborated with Enrique Iglesias, on a song titled as "Heartbeat (India Mix)" which was included on Iglesias' album ''Euphoria'' (Special Indian Edition).

Lyricists she has worked with include Jaideep Sahni, Irshad Kamil, Gulzar, Sameer, Prasoon Joshi, Swanand Kirkire, the late Anand Bakshi and Javed Akhtar; music directors include Bappi Lahiri, A. R. Rahman, Ilaiyaraja, Yuvan, Himesh Reshammiya, Anu Malik, Jatin Lalit, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pritam Chakraborty, Rajesh Roshan, Nadeem-Shravan, Anand-Milind, Vishal-Shekhar, M. M. Keeravani and others.

Chauhan is one of the few female singers of the present generation who have lent their voice for nearly every leading actress in the Indian entertainment industry, including Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Konkona Sen Sharma and more. She has also sung for actresses of yesteryear cinema, such as Rekha. She was the main singer who lent her voice for the comebacks of two leading Bollywood actresses: Kajol, in the movie ''Fanaa'', and Madhuri Dixit, in ''Aaja Nachle''.

Vocal ability

Chauhan's voice has been described as "powerful," "amazing," "husky ... [and] sensuous". However, it has been noted that Chauhan can not hit high notes without losing some tonal quality, and people have cited her voice more suited to fast and pop songs, as compared to slow ones.

In 2007, while discussing Chauhan's popular song "Beedi Jailaile," actress Bipasha Basu (on whom the song was picturised) said, "Sunidhi is a goddess. Her singing is so powerful. She added another dimension to my dancing."

Indian singer, Lata Mangeshkar has called Chauhan "one of the finest young singers." Ironically, Chauhan's item numbers have been said to mark the end of the "squeaky Lata era", a period when Mangeshkar's style of soft voice and classical music were preferred over racy or fast pop songs.

Special appearances

In October 2008, Chauhan appeared on a special episode of the singing contest, Star Voice of India, alongside composer Ashu Dhruv, to promote their film, ''Drona.''

She was a guest RJ for India's Radio City 91.1 FM's new morning show, ''Musical-e-Azam'' where, over her week-long stint, she interviewed the likes of Kunal Ganjawala, Daler Mehendi, Sukhwindar, Adnan Sami and Gulzar.

Personal life

Chauhan was born in Delhi. Her father is a minor theatre personality who pushed her into the music industry from a young age. She has a younger sister, Suneha.

She completed her schooling from Greenway Modern School, Dilshad Garden.

Chauhan, who believes herself to be "the most versatile singer today," attributes her success to her parents and Indian singer Sonu Nigam. She has cited ''Sadma'' (1983) as her favourite film; gymnastics and cricket as her favourite sports; and Akshaye Khanna and Madhuri Dixit as her favourite actors. Chauhan also loves western music and cites Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson as her inspirations. She has noted that one of her ambitions is to achieve global fame like they did. She is known for her admiration of international divas Celine Dion and Whitney Houston.

After entering the film industry, Chauhan upgraded her wardrobe and lost twelve kilos by jogging and working out. In an early interview, she revealed a "secret dream" of seeing herself as a Bollywood actress, saying, "I have many acting offers too, but I don't want to rush it. Frankly, I would like to do just one or two films to fulfill that secret dream of seeing myself as an actress. But my life is singing and my aim is to keep singing better."

In 2002, at the age of 18, Chauhan eloped with director and choreographer Bobby Khan, after working on the music video for "Pehla Nasha." It was reported that the couple married in a secretly arranged ceremony, attended only by very close friends and vigilantly watched over by security.

Chauhan was initially happy with the marriage. In an interview, she said:

"My in-laws don't make me feel I am 'married'. I don't feel I have stepped into a new house. I am so comfortable. And Bobby is a darling. I am very, very happy."

On the downside, the marriage caused a rift between the young singer and her parents, who considered the union unsuitable and consequently disowned her. However, Chauhan and Khan separated a year later, bringing about a reconciliation between the estranged parents and daughter. Chauhan, who lived with mentor, actor and TV anchor, Annu Kapoor and his wife Arunita during the separation, filed for divorce the same year, citing that she had realized she and Khan "wanted different things from life."

Glenn Tipton (born Glenn Raymond Tipton, 25 October 1947, Blackheath, England) is one of the Grammy Award-winning guitarists (and occasional keyboard and bongo player) for the heavy metal band Judas Priest. Prior to joining Judas Priest, he played in The Flying Hat Band and also at Death Thunder.

In 1997 Tipton released his first solo album ''Baptizm of Fire'', featuring a host of well-known musicians including John Entwistle, Billy Sheehan, Cozy Powell, Robert Trujillo and Don Airey, among others.

Playing style and technique

Although Tipton did not pick up the guitar until he was 19 years old, he was taught by his mother how to play the piano at a young age. Tipton's piano playing features prominently on Judas Priest's second album ''Sad Wings of Destiny,'' especially on "Epitaph," a song that features no guitar. In addition, his brother was a guitarist in a band called the Atlantics. When his brother was not around, Tipton used to sneak into his room and play his guitar.

Tipton is known for his complex, sometimes classically-influenced solos, and he has a unique guitar-playing technique. Many of his solos are very difficult to tab, and his playing is notable for his double lead guitar trades with fellow Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing. Tipton's solos have maintained a consistent style for most of his career, but he has continuously incorporated new techniques into his playing over the years as he has developed as a guitarist.

In contrast to Downing, Tipton's solos tend to feature a more melodic, legato sound, making use of harmonic minor scales, exotic scales and techniques such as sweep-picking arpeggios, legato picking, tremolo/alternate picking, hammer-ons and pull-offs, and the solos often showcase both accuracy and aggression. However, like Downing, his playing sometimes emphasizes speed rather than precision, and Tipton has been known to occasionally use pinch harmonics and dive bombs in his solos. Tipton also has a trademark 2-strings bend/whammy dive screams for ending the solo. You can hear that sound in the end of solos like All Guns Blazing, Heavy Metal intro, Demonizer, Bullet Train, Ram It Down. KK Downing also frequently uses whammy bar, but his style is different, he does not recreate sounds of almmost-ripping-the-string. In 1978, Tipton began to incorporate tapping into his playing, which Downing promptly did as well. In the mid-1980s, both guitarists started to use the complex technique of sweep-picking, which can be notably heard on the title track of their 1990 album ''Painkiller''. Both have continuously used these techniques ever since.

Tipton has composed very complex and technical solos over the years without compromising melody and feel, and he reproduces these solos note for note at live shows.

Equipment

Guitars

Tipton has used numerous guitars over the years. These include a 1960s Fender Stratocaster up until about 1978. During the period from 1978 to 1979, he used a black Gibson Les Paul Custom, and he started using a modified CBS-era Fender Stratocaster with Dimarzio Super-Distortion (humbucking) pickups. For the ''Screaming for Vengeance'' tour, he added a chrome pickguard. For this tour, he also played a Gibson SG Special that he spray-painted black himself. The SG also had a chrome pickguard and stock PAF humbuckers. Around 1984, he switched to a Hamer Phantom GT model, which was fitted with one EMG humbucker, a Kahler tremolo, and one volume pot. A signature model of this was developed and sold to public from 1984 to 1986. Tipton still uses this guitar model, but now with Seymour Duncan Blackouts active pickups. In 2009, Tipton took his Fender Stratocaster and Gibson SG Special out of retirement for the British Steel 30th Anniversary tour.

Amplification

Tipton has almost exclusively used Marshall Amplifiers. Tipton used Regular Vintage 50 and 100 Watt Marshall heads without a master volume until 1982, when the JCM 800 head was developed. The JCM 800 was used by Tipton and fellow Judas Priest guitarist K.K. Downing for many years. Before his ENGL endorsement, Tipton used a large rack unit which includes several different preamps and two Marshall 9100 poweramps.

In 2008, Tipton began using ENGL amps. Of the brand, he comments, “ENGL is the first ampline that I have ever used that not only has balls, but attitude, right out of the box”. Tipton currently plays through the ENGL Midi Tube Preamp E 580 and the ENGL Tube Poweramp E 850/50.

Effects

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Tipton used a Pete Cornish custom pedalboard with an overdrive unit, flanger, MXR distortion unit, MXR Phase 100, MXR digital delay, MXR 12-band EQ, Maestro Echoplex, line boosters between each effect to preserve the signal from input to output, and a Rangemaster-based custom treble boost connected to the bass channel of Marshall 50 and 100 watt heads with no master volume.

Today, Tipton only has a modified Crybaby 535Q Wah, Digitech Tone Driver, DigiTech Main Squeeze, and a Yamaha midi board controlling other effects and sounds in a rack unit.

Recognition and honors

He was ranked #19 on rock magazine Hit Parader's list of 100 greatest metal guitarists.

Sun Kil Moon released a song titled "Glenn Tipton" on their album ''Ghosts of the Great Highway''.

In the popular video game ''Guitar Hero II'', a playable character called Izzy Sparks, wears clothes very similar to the ones Glenn Tipton used under the ''Screaming for Vengeance'' tour 1983.

He was ranked #28 on Gigwise's Top 50 Guitarists.
