Frigid temperatures have gripped Europe in the last week, with the mercury reaching as low as 35 degrees Celsius below zero. After what had been a relatively mild winter, the sudden cold caught many unprepared. Eastern Europe is hardest hit, with over 100 deaths in Ukraine, and with over 11000 people in remote villages cut off by snow in Serbia. Most of the fatalities recorded have been homeless people found frozen to death outside, and emergency tents with hot meals have been set up to help them in several affected countries. Russia and Poland are mobilizing help for the homeless. Travel in Romania has been chaos as a blizzard hampered efforts to clear both rails and roads. Recorded temperatures in Italy were the lowest in 27 years. www.bbc.co.uk www.bbc.co.uk BBC © 2012

1966 Palomares B-52 crash en.wikipedia.org The Palomares Incident or 1966 Palomares B-52 crash occurred on January 17, 1966, when a B-52G bomber of the USAF Strategic Air Command collided with a KC-135 tanker during mid-air refuelling at 31000 feet (9450 m) over the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Spain. The KC-135 was completely destroyed when its fuel load ignited, killing all four crew members. The B-52G broke apart, killing three of the seven crew members aboard. Of the four Mk28 type hydrogen bombs the B-52G carried, three were found on land near the small fishing village of Palomares in the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora, Almería, Spain. The non-nuclear explosives in two of the weapons detonated upon impacting the ground, resulting in the contamination of a 2-square-kilometer (490-acre) (0.78 square mile) area by radioactive plutonium. The fourth, which fell into the Mediterranean Sea, was recovered intact after a 2½-month-long search.

Poll Data for the 2012 Minnesota Caucus. Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum compete to earn delegates in the Minnesota Republican Caucus. Most candidates have their eyes fixed on Florida this week. However, Ron Paul has chosen to stay mostly away from campaigning in Florida except for a few appearances and two debates. Paul has been focusing his efforts on Minnesota, Nevada, and Missouri where he believes he can pick up delegates. In the State of Minnesota caucus goers are more likely to believe in conspiracy, the new world order, and are strongly in favor of ending the Federal Reserve Bank and returning to the gold standard. In a state that elected Conspiracy Theory host Jesse Ventura anything can happen. Romney and Gingrich are doing well in these polls but have not spend nearly any of the money their campaigns and super PACs plan to spend in the Minnesota Caucus on February 7, 2012. Advertising is picking up in the state though. Go to cpctcss.org or leave a comment here.
