math in the morning

Every morning I have out my giant journal (chart paper), strategy posters (mini-sized) and journal prompt ready to go. I meet with half of my class who will be working in their journals and model the prompt and the strategy before we begin guided math for the day. The rest of the class is doing quiet reading and finishing up their morning procedures.

Their journals are stored by group for easy access in these pink bins that I got from the Dollar Tree. They turn them into this white basket after we are done sharing for the day. This basket sits right next to my desk. Confession: if its not in front of my nose...

k teachers rock

In honor of  Kindergarten finally getting their day!
We are no longer going to be ignored in a professional development setting.
No longer told to "adapt" this to our grade level - this is just for us!

That's right! Why?? Because it the Everything's Kindergarten Expo!

You've seen this badge on my sidebar all month because I'm very excited about this event. I've seen the behind the stage rehearsals and it's going to be fantastic! As a hostess for the event, if you attend, you'll see me there along with Fran, Crystal, Hadar and Krissy!

I'm not the important one, but I figured I can add to the fun of the day by contributing to the goodie bag. If you attend tomorrow, you'll get our Detective Read and Write the Room Literacy Center Activities Pack - FREE! And there's more... Want to see what else is included?

And to keep the fun going I am hosting a sale on Teachers Notebook since Kindergarten Teachers Rock!
Come on over and save if you're up for a little shopping after all the awesome learning that will be poured into you by these fantastic teachers, the scores of freebies you can download, and having the best kind of PD... all done at home!

dimensional

First quarter we had to master the name of 2D shapes. Second quarter we gained mastery over the descriptions of said shapes. This quarter we are nailing identifying 3D shapes and can you guess what we're working towards for next quarter? If you tracked the logic, then you're right. We're going to be 3D shape description experts.

the details

Here's a snapshot of our literacy centers icon board and some details. This is a pocket chart that I attached to the back of a closet door in our classroom. My kinders know which center they are going to by looking at the four icons under their group names. In the years past, I have had students go to four centers. I would pull three reading groups and pull students to do running records during the fourth.
