Steve Jobs

Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (/ˈdʒɒbz/; February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American information technology entrepreneur and inventor. He was the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer (CEO) of Apple Inc.; CEO and largest shareholder of Pixar Animation Studios; a member of The Walt Disney Company's board of directors following its acquisition of Pixar; and founder, chairman, and CEO of NeXT Inc. Jobs is widely recognized as a pioneer of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s, along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Shortly after his death, Jobs's official biographer, Walter Isaacson, described him as the "creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing."

Adopted at birth in San Francisco, and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s, Jobs's countercultural lifestyle was a product of his time. As a senior at Homestead High School in Cupertino, California, his two closest friends were the older engineering student (and Homestead High alumnus) Wozniak and his countercultural girlfriend, the artistically inclined Homestead High junior Chrisann Brennan. Jobs briefly attended Reed College in 1972 before dropping out, deciding to travel through India in 1974 and study Buddhism.

The Son of a Migrant from Syria

The Son of a Migrant from Syria is a 2015 mural by graffiti artist Banksy. The mural is located in the Calais jungle, a nickname for the encampment near Calais, France, where migrants live as they attempt to enter the United Kingdom. The artwork depicts Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, the son of a Syrian migrant to the United States, as a traveling migrant.

Background

During the European migrant crisis, many are fleeing war-torn Syria. Approximately 7,000 migrants, mostly from Syria, Afghanistan, and Eritrea, live in a temporary camp nicknamed the Jungle near Calais, France.Banksy, an English-based artist and political activist, had previously donated pieces of his former installation Dismaland to help construct shelters in the camp.

In December 2015, Banksy revealed he had painted several graffiti works related to the migrant crisis, including a variation of Théodore Géricault's painting The Raft of the Medusa, depicting migrants on a raft waving towards a nearby luxury yacht. The Son of a Migrant from Syria depicts Jobs wearing a black polo neck and round glasses. He is standing while one hand holds a bag of his belongings over his shoulder and the other his original Macintosh computer. Jobs' depiction is derived from a 2006 photograph taken by Albert Watson's which was later used on the cover of Walter Isaacson's biography Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs (book)

Steve Jobs is the authorized self-titled biography book of Steve Jobs. The book was written at the request of Jobs by Walter Isaacson, a former executive at CNN and TIME who has written best-selling biographies of Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein.

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—in addition to interviews with more than one hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Isaacson was given "unprecedented" access to Jobs' life. Jobs is said to have encouraged the people interviewed to speak honestly. Although Jobs cooperated with the book, he asked for no control over its content other than the book's cover, and waived the right to read it before it was published.

The book was released on October 24, 2011, by Simon & Schuster in the United States, 19 days after Jobs' death.

A film adaptation written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle, with Michael Fassbender starring in the title role, was released on October 9, 2015.

Steve Jobs is a 2015 American biographical drama film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin. Based on the biography of the same name by Walter Isaacson, as well as interviews conducted by Sorkin, the film is structured into three acts which cover fourteen years (1984–1998) in the life of personal computing innovator and Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, with each act taking place immediately prior to the launch of a key product - the Apple Macintosh, the NeXT Computer and the iMac G3. Jobs is portrayed by Michael Fassbender, with Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Katherine Waterston, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jeff Daniels in supporting roles.

Steve Jobs premiered at the 2015 Telluride Film Festival on September 5, 2015, and began a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on October 9, 2015. It opened nationwide in the U.S. on October 23, 2015. Winslet won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress and Sorkin won the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay at the 73rd Golden Globes, while Fassbender and Winslet are both nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, at the 88th Academy Awards.
