Documentary: The Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) was established at Kakul in October 1947 soon after the creation of Pakistan. On 25th January 1948, "The First Pakistan Battalion" was instituted. Its companies were named after the luminaries of Muslim military history ie, Khalid, Tariq, Qasim and Salahuddin. Two months later in March 1948, the Battalion was bestowed with Quaid-e-Azam's patronage as Colonel-in-Chief and the most coveted claim "The Quaid-e-Azam's Own' While the Quaid's failing health prevented him from visiting PMA, Khawaja Nazim-ud-din, the then, Governor General inaugurated it on behalf of the Quaid-e-Azam and presented the Quaid-e-Azam banner. Ever since, at every passing out parade, it is held aloft with splendid honour by champion company. Regimental colours presented in 1950 by Liaqat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan and the National Standard in 1961 by General Muhammad Musa, the then, Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Army, have been some of the honours showered on the Academy, which it has always jealously guarded and kept high in letter and spirit. The Indo-Pak War of 1965 necessitated Academy's expansion and Second Pakistan Battalion was raised in December 1965. Its four companies were named after some renowned Muslim military leaders from the subcontinent ie Ghaznavi, Babur, Aurangzeb and Tipu. In early 1989, Third Pakistan Battalion was added to its fold. Abbottabad: Attackers have fired several rocket-propelled grenades at the Pakistan Military Academy, about 50km (30 miles) north of the capital Islamabad. The building is located in Abbottabad, near the compound where Osama Bin Laden was killed by US special forces in May last year.Friday's attack damaged a wall but no casualties have been reported.It was unclear who was responsible but security forces have mounted a search.The Pakistan Military Academy is the country's top training centre, the equivalent of West Point in the US or Britain's Sandhurst.The fact that Bin Laden's compound to be located nearby came as an embarrassment to Pakistan. (Dunya & PtvNews) A smartly turned out contingent of the gentlemen cadets from the Pakistan Military Academy ,Kakul mounted the guard at the mazar of Quaid-e-Azam here on Sunday as a part of celebration to mark the Quaid's Birthday Maj-Gen Mazhar Jameel, Commandant Pakistan Military Academy reviewed the parade before mounting of the guard, laid floral wreath at the Mazar, presented salute and offered fateha. It is worth mentioning here that the first passing out parade was held on 25 december 1948 at the Pakistan Military Academy. It was reiewed by the then Governor General of Pakistan Khawaja Nazimuddin .He presented the Quaid-e-Azam Banner to the champion company .The Pakistan Military Academy , Kakul has the singular honour of being the only military Institution, designated as "Quaid-e-Azam's Own" by the Father of the nation himself. He was the first and only Colonel-in-Chief of the Academy. The guard mounting ceremony by PMA cadets is a regular feature to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.

Addressing the participants of Azadi Parade and Flag Hoisting Ceremony held to mark anniversary of 'Independence Day' here at Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) on late Saturday, he said today, challenges being faced by nation were far greater and complex than ever before. "We have to put Pakistan firmly on the path to prosperity". He said that 14th August 1947 was a historic day for the Muslims of the Subcontinent. April 23, 2011: An impressive Passing out parade of 123rd PMA Long Course, Integrated Course 42nd and Lady Cadets Course 8th was held at Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul. Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was the chief guest on the occasion. Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani congratulated all the graduating cadets on successful completion of their basic military training. He during his address said that Pakistan Army is fully aware of internal and external threats to the country and will come upto the expectations of the nation. In the ongoing war against terrorism, our officers and soldiers have made great sacrifices and have achieved tremendous success.
