Georgie Fame - Sunny
cover of Bobby Hebb's song released in October 1966. best version in my opinion. Sunny Yesterday my life was filled with rain Sunny You smiled at me and really eased the pain Now, the dark days are done And the bright days are here My Sunny one shines so sincere Sunny, one so true, I love you Sunny Well, thank you for the sunshine bouquet Sunny Thank you for the love you brought my way You gave to me your all and all Now I feel ten feet tall Well, Sunny, one so true, I love you Sunny Thank you for the truthful things you said Sunny I want to thank you for the facts from A to Z 'Cause my life was torn Like wind-blown sand Then a rock was formed When we held hand Sunny, one so true, I love you Sunny Thank you for the smile upon your face Sunny Well, I want to thank you for that gleam that flows with grace You're my spark of nature's fire You're my sweet complete desire Sunny, one so true, I love you Said I love you And the things you do A love so true

Georgie Fame - Yeh Yeh (Hullabaloo)
Georgie Fame's swinging, surprisingly credible blend of jazz and American R&B earned him a substantial following in his native UK, where he scored three number one singles during the '60s. Fame played piano and organ in addition to singing, and was influenced by the likes of Mose Allison, Booker T. & the MG's, and Louis Jordan. Early in his career, he also peppered his repertoire with Jamaican ska and bluebeat tunes, helping to popularize that genre in England; during his later years, he was one of the few jazz singers of any stripe to take an interest in the vanishing art of vocalese, and earned much general respect from jazz critics on both sides of the Atlantic. Fame was born Clive Powell on June 26, 1943, in Leigh, Lancashire (near Manchester, England). He began playing piano at a young age, and performed with several groups around Manchester as a teenager, when he was particularly fond of Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis. In 1959, his family moved to London, where the 16 year old was discovered by songwriter Lionel Bart (best known for the musical +Oliver). Bart took Powell to talent manager Larry Parnes, who promoted British rockers like Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Johnny Gentle, and Vince Eager. Powell naturally had to be renamed as well, and as Georgie Fame, he played piano behind Wilde and Eager before officially joining Fury's backing band, the Blue Flames, in the summer of 1961. (The Blue Flames also included guitarist Colin Green, saxophonist Mick Eve, bassist ...

Georgie Fame Trio - Yeh Yeh, Liseberg, 2011
Posted by www.nostalgoteket.se Georgie Fame performing with his som Tristan Powell on guitar and "Uncle Colin" on drums. This was his break through hit in Sweden, back in 1965. He obviously enjoys coming here as he has a summer house outside of Sandviken. "Yeh Yeh" is a Latin soul tune that was written as an instrumental by Rodgers Grant and Pat Patrick and first recorded by Mongo Santamaría on his 1963 album Watermelon Man. Lyrics were written for it shortly thereafter by Jon Hendricks of the vocal group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. This version of the song was taken to the top of the UK charts in January 1965 by Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames (b "Preach and Teach", Columbia DB 7428), breaking The Beatles' long-term hold on the number one spot, and a month later appeared on the US Billboard pop singles chart to peak at #21

Georgie Fame - Seventh Son
1969 www.amazon.com Watch the full show: thesixtiesarchive.blogspot.com "The Seventh Son", also recorded as "Seventh Son", is a song written by Willie Dixon. It was released as a single by Willie Mabon on Chess Records in 1955. It has also been recorded by artists such as: Johnny Rivers on his album Meanwhile Back at the Whisky a Go Go, John Mellencamp, on the album Rough Harvest, and Billy "Crash" Craddock, on the album You Better Move On, Mose Allison, Sting, Georgie Fame, Climax Blues Band, the Soul Agents and Long John Baldry. Rivers' version of "Seventh Son" peaked on the Billboard charts at #7. Fame was heavily influenced from early on by jazz and by such blues musicians as Willie Mabon. He was one of the first white artists to be influenced by the ska music he heard in Jamaican cafes in and around Ladbroke Grove. Fames' trumpeter at this time, Eddie Thornton (to be heard playing on Lily Allen's 2006 hit single Smile), was Jamaican. Fame performed also at "The Roaring Twenties" club near Carnaby Street which was run by Jamaican DJ Count Suckle. The many black American soldiers who visited the Flamingo became friends with Fame and would play him the latest jazz and blues releases from America. Of particular note were "Midnight Special" by Jimmy Smith, "Grooving With Jug" by Gene Ammons and Richard "Groove" Holmes, and "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MGs These affected him so powerfully that he was inspired to change instrument from the piano to the Hammond organ ...

Georgie Fame - Peaceful
As much as I like Georgie's R&B stuff, if I had to choose one favourite song, this would be it. So different from his usual output, and if all those radio stations would stop playing Yeh Yeh, Get Away and Bonnie & Clyde, and start playing this instead, the world would be a much nicer place. Issued in the UK in 1969 on CBS. Groovy man.

I just want to apologize for the sound quality on this one, since the cymbals wash everything out. But I guess that's what I get for recording on an el cheapo. Enjoy--as much as you can!

Georgie Fame - You Can't Do That
1969 www.amazon.com Watch the full show: thesixtiesarchive.blogspot.com "You Can't Do That" is a song written by John Lennon (credited to Lennon/McCartney) and released by The Beatles as the B-side of their sixth UK single "Can't Buy Me Love." * Vanilla Fudge covered it on their second album, The Beat Goes On. * Andy Ellison recorded a version. * Amanda Overmyer sang a faster rendition of the song on the Top 12 show of American Idol (season 7) and likewise recorded a studio version of the song. * The Punkles did a cover of this song on their 1998-2003 album. * The Supremes covered the song on their 1964 album A Bit of Liverpool. Fame took piano lessons from the age of seven and after leaving Leigh Central County Secondary School at 15, he worked for a brief period in a cotton weaving mill and played piano for a band called The Dominoes in the evenings. After taking part in a singing contest at the Butlins Holiday Camp in Pwllheli, North Wales he was offered a job there by the band leader, early British rock'n'roll star Rory Blackwell. At sixteen years of age, Fame went to London and entered into a management agreement with Larry Parnes, who had given new stage names to such artists as Marty Wilde and Billy Fury. Fame later recalled that Parnes had given him an ultimatum over his forced change of name: " [It] was very much against my will but he said, "If you don't use my name, I won't use you in the show". " Over the following year he toured the UK playing beside Wilde ...

This was Georgie's biggest hit, #1 in UK, #7 in USA in 1968. Video was recorded for The Rick Shaw Show in 1968 in Miami. The production was a crude attempt at chroma-key, which just came out.
