I’ve been a little lazy with the uploads lately, but I feel like this comp will make up for that. It’s an absolute classic records released in 1996, to celebrate the final issue of Anti Matter Zine. In case you’re not in the know, Anti-Matter was a short lived but massively distributed and very well written zine published by Norman Arenas/Brannon of Texas is the Reason/Shelter/Fountainhead. There is a book containing highlights of from the zine available through Revhq, for the handful of you who actually own books. http://revhq.com/store.revhq?Page=search&Id;=REVBKS02
At the time of it’s release, nearly all of the tracks on this comp were exclusive. Many of them never did make it onto rarities/B Sides collections (Mouthpiece, Supertouch, Outspoken). Others were later re-recorded, but the version on here is different than the one most people here (Lifetime, Snapcase), while others were B Sides that never really got a proper release, but showed up in other places as well (Quicksand, Sensefield).
Overall this is a pretty incredible collection of 90’s Hardcore, that for one reason or another, doesn’t get the credit it deserves. It’s also a strong argument for owning hard copies of the music you listen too. The liner notes on this thing are great, they have snippets from interviews with the bands, and discuss when the tracks were recorded and whether they were exclusive for this compilation. I only own this on CD unfortunately. I picked up my copy at Sloth Records in Calgary, but the girl didn’t put the disc in the case, and they had to mail it too me. I’m glad they did, because I didn’t realize at the time what a treat I was in for. The Lifetime track on here is one of my favorite songs ever, but I didn’t realize there was an earlier recording of it floating around (this version is from right after the Hello Bastards sessions).
