After QC Denyer refused to recognise due process and made an unlawful summary judgement in favour of eviction, Occupy Bristol is now on full red alert. Despite the media saying otherwise, occupy bristol does not recognise the judgement and WILL be resisting the eviction attempt. Sources have fed back to the site that it will be happening within the next week. Currently occupy bristol are clearing certain sections of the site to preserve materials and are also planning for the resistance. occupy bristol needs as much help as possible over the coming days to clear supplies off the site. Also, if you have access to or know of anywhere that occupy can store all the bender poles and tarps then please get in contact. Fundamentally though, occupy bristol needs support to resist the eviction itself. If you want to help, or just wish to be kept informed, then text: 07814901175 or 07926381959. Big thanks must go out to all of you that have supported occupy bristol through thick and thin. Phase two is just about to begin...
'New Year, Same Shit' Four people were arrested when Police attacked a New Year's Eve Prison Solidarity demo outside Horfield Prison. Around 20 people had gathered outside Horfield to protest against prisons and show solidarity with those inside. Cries of "Happy New Year!", "Solidarity" and "Fuck the Screws!" could be heard over the soundsystem as people celebrated the coming of the New Year. The celebrations were cut short by the arrival of two Police officers who upon arriving on the scene liberally applied CS spray and tried to steal the soundsystem (to no avail). More Police arrived shortly and began making arrests. After a brief confrontation people decided to make a tactical retreat to avoid further arrests. Prisoners inside Horfield showed their support for those on the outside by banging on windows and shouting out to them. A sing-song chorus of "All Coppers Are Dead Coppers" could be heard as the Police began making arrests. The situation inside the Prison sounded just as volatile as it did outside by this point. At the time of writing, four people are still under arrest. There is no information relating to charges etc. A Solidarity Vigil will be happening at Trinity Road Station today (Sun 1st January), so please come down if you can! Note from BIMC: The pic is from a previous demo at Horfield, hence the presence of daylight!

On 22nd December, two Bristol Rising Tide activists appeared at Lanark Sheriff's Court to be sentenced following an action to stop work at the Mainshill open cast mine back in March 2011. The two were fined £400 each for aggravated trespass by Sheriff Stewart.
They were part of a group who entered Scottish Coal's Mainshill mine in South Lanarkshire to disrupt coaling operations. The two Bristol activists managed to reach and scale a huge 260 tonne 'prime mover' in the bottom of the pit, one of the two biggest machines on the site. Other activists there to support them were brutally attacked by Scottish Coal employees and Trustcare Security. The action lasted over 4 hours before a specialist police team from Glasgow removed the people occupying the excavator, which had been in the process of loading coal from the seam on to dump trucks. The action in March was part of the on-going campaign by Coal Action Scotland to resist the expansion of the open cast coal mining in the Douglas Valley in South Lanarkshire. In 2009/2010 there was a 7-month occupation of the site by the Mainshill Solidariy Camp; over 70 people were evicted from the site, with 45 being forcibly removed and arrested Saturday 24th December. 11-2. Kebele infoshop DJ session at Kebele cafe. It's come to our attention here at the Kebele infoshop bunker that we have a problem: a) people are sick to death of christmas shopping in the corporate temples b) people can't afford to buy all the shit they tell us we need to be happy or show our loved ones how much we care c) people are missing some total undiscovered, off the downtrodden track, gems and bargains on the Kebele infoshop, unaware of the anticapitalist shopping potential contained therein. So, with your vegan fry up this Saturday we're offering you a tour of the world (with no exploited reindeer or wronguns in coca cola costume) via the infoshop's special collection of hip hop, ska, punk and folk from around the world. Bring in the new year with sounds of revolt turned up loud. Pick up some proper christmas hits and check out a lot of new stock for your stocking (or balaclava?) filler ideas. You know it makes sense. Merry crisis from the infoshop collective. |
