Both of these organizations have expressed open sympathy for Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. Might have they been aided by the White House’s leak of al-Qaeda operative Muhammed Naeem Noor Khan’s identity to the press two years ago?
Terrorism is defined as “The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons” [American Heritage Dictionary]. What was the “ideological or political reason”?
Terrorism is committed to make a political demand or to “make a point”. In this case, as in so many others, no statement has been made. How does anyone make a political demand without making it? How does one “make a point” without stating it? Reports are that this was carried out by a “large” and “sophisticated” group. However, they don’t seem large or sophisticated enough to state their goals.
Will New Delhi follow the disingenuous examples of Washington and Westminster after the 9/11 and 7/7 atrocities respectively, and use this as an excuse for curbing civil liberties or even for foreign mischief?
