Space Available at the UC-IMC

The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UCIMC) is located in the historic Post Office building in the heart of downtown Urbana. We offer several spaces that can accommodate a wide variety of events at affordable rates for hourly, daily and weekly events. We also have several studio spaces available. As a non-profit organization, the UCIMC offers these spaces at affordable rates for your occupation. 

The UCIMC offers spaces for public and private gatherings ranging from as few as 10 to as many as 600 attendees. Amenities include a stage, professional lighting and sound equipment, tables, chairs and free wireless internet. Smaller meeting/breakout spaces are also available, as well as a public access computer lab.

Although painted in stylish and smart colors, the historic ambiance has been maintained throughout the building. From high ceilings, to natural woodwork, to marble flooring, to large paned windows flooding the space with natural light, no detail has been overlooked. Yet, with the historic preservation, several modern amenities abound, including free wireless internet, ethernet, individual climate control, and secure entries. On site parking available.

UCIMC is ideally located in downtown Urbana. The Post Office remains at this location, and Lincoln Square Village, the Historic Lincoln Hotel and both the County and Federal Courthouses surround the building.

Private Suite (West wing)

2176 total square feet, 8-room suite. Easy access from the historic front entrance. Includes 2 restrooms within privately secured space, and one shared restroom immediately outside of space; large sunny office overlooking downtown makes an ideal conference room; free access to shared lounge (additional 240 SF); room for expansion. On-site parking available.

Price: $1,950/month + percentage of electric and gas. Water, sewer, trash, and recycling included. Beautiful space for the lowest rates in downtown!

East Wing Office – Room 226

Large, open office space with 615 sq. feet; sink; 2 shared restrooms on east wing; acoustic tile ceiling; wired for ethernet; access to shared lounge; lots of light. Price: $690/month, utilities included.

East Wing Office – Room 222

Beautiful, light studio or small office space. 163 sq. feet; 2 shared restrooms on east wing. Price: $250/month, utilities included.

Lower Level Office -- Room 102

Historic postmasters office with huge windows and beautiful view of downtown. First floor office right off of main lobby. 295 square feet with private bathroom. Price: $500/month, utilities included

Transportation

Transportation to and from UCIMC is easy.

On-site parking is available at the best rate in downtown Urbana - $30 per month. Visitor parking is only 25 cents an hour in the city parking deck right across the street.

MTD bus service operates a main hub right across the street, providing routing service throughout the C-U area.

The Bike Coop is located inside UCIMC, providing you with yet another means of healthy and eco-friendly transportation

Sought-after UCIMC Amenities

UCIMC houses a 600+ capacity community center, complete with a stage, professional lighting and sound equipment. This provides an opportunity to hold conferences, workshops, and other events on-site at hourly rates. There are other smaller meeting rooms available, as well as a public computer access lab.

WRFU 104.5 FM (Radio Free Urbana) is on-site and available for you to broadcast shows in areas of your expertise.

Professional video and audio equipment and training are available both off-site and in UCIMC's production room.

Connect with diverse UCIMC artists in residence for additional artistic support and inspiration or make use of our woodshop/workshop area, complete with woodworking tools and other artist's supplies.
