Esther Phillips "I Haven't Got Anything Better To Do" (1976)
From her 1976 album "Capricorn Princess" Esther Phillips - Born Esther Mae Jones in Galveston, Texas (December 23, 1935 August 7, 1984) was an American singer. Phillips was known for her R&B; vocals, but she was a versatile singer, also performing pop, country, jazz, blues and soul music. Her first hit record under the billing of Little Esther, was "Double Crossing Blues", recorded in 1950 for Savoy Records. One of her biggest post-1950s triumphs was in 1972 with her first album for Kudu Records. The song penned by Gil Scott-Heron, "Home Is Where the Hatred Is," (an account of drug use), was lead track on From a Whisper to a Scream which went on to be nominated for a Grammy Award. When Phillips lost to Aretha Franklin, Aretha presented the trophy to Phillips, saying she should have won it instead. Ill health sadly undermined this artist's undoubted potential. Phillips' long-term heroin dependency, combined with heavy drinking, led to her death from liver and kidney failure in Carson, California in 1984, at the age of 48.

Bobby Byrd "I Need Help" Part 1 & 2 (1970)
This his first album, is a good expression of his talents and his hit single "I Need Help" is a fitting title for the album. In 1952 Bobby Byrd was playing baseball against the inmates of the Alto Reformatory prison team and met the music mad James Brown apparently showing off his singing to other inmates. Byrd befriended him and arranged for Byrd's family to oversee Brown's parole. It began a personal and professional association that lasted until 1973 and although Byrd had twenty years plus as a solo performer it is his association with Brown for which he is chiefly remembered. Brown was a remarkable tour de force of vitality and personality and within a short time he had not only joined the Avons but he was directing affairs changing their name to The Flames. Byrd recognised early that Brown was unique and that it would be impossible to control him 'I didn't need him in competition, I needed him with me, that's why I worked so hard to get him over to my group'

The Jackson Sisters "Miracles" (1976)
From their 2006 album "I Believe in Miracles - The Collection" which contain some remixed tracks form the original 1976 album " The Jackson Sisters" The Jackson Sisters were an American soul and disco family group in the 1970s. The group hailed from Compton, California but were based in Detroit, Michigan. The Jackson Sisters were Jacqueline Jackson-Rencher, Lyn Jackson, Pat Jackson, Rae Jackson and Gennie Jackson. They recorded material for the Tiger Lily Records label, obtaining some modest success in the 1970s.
