Happy new year :)
Last night, I was a bit disappointed in dinner. Not anything to do with Dave’s cooking, delicious as always. No, I’d seen a recipe for a tomato, red onion and avocado salsa topping for the steak he was making and since I knew there was an avocado in the fridge, I asked Dave to pick up some cherry tomatoes and a red onion (come to find out, there was also one of those in the fridge). YUM! This was going to be so good!
Got home, kiss and hug, pet the dogs and got out the ingredients to make the salsa. Cut into the avocado…YIKES! It had gone bad. Sad, sad, sad. I cut up some of the cherry tomatoes anyway and added them to the rice pilaf (along with some sautéed mushrooms). But I had really been craving that salsa!
After dinner, I decided to clean out the fridge, check dates and produce, etc. Well. Quite the production that turned out to be! I have spared you the before picture and don’t have a shot handy of the after picture, but wow. What a difference! There were 3 bottles of ketchup, 5 different mustards, 4 jams or jellies, 6 bbq sauces of various types, 4 jars of pickles, 2 of bacon fat, and 3 jars of who knows what was in there (I think coffee, iced tea and really have no idea on the third). There was a jar of chestnuts…a jar of the remains of pickled something or other (it contained a nice sprig of dill, a grape leaf, lots of peppercorns)…and I found, way in the back, the coconut dates Dave had bought for Christmas…this year LOL!
I also found the eggs Dave made me for our first Easter…in 2010 LMAO!
Sadly, they joined the trash pile as he hadn’t blown out the contents before drawing on them.
Now, it’s nice and sorted and CLEAN! Dave doesn’t have to ask where is this or that, he can SEE it. I also covered the top two shelves with tea towels, an idea I got from Dave’s niece.
Let’s see how long we can keep it that way!
