Northwest DC9-50 engine start, taxi, & takeoff from Detroit
On June 20, 2009, I had the pleasure of flying from DTW to PIT on NW1018. The flight was originally scheduled to be operated by one of Northwest's elusive DC9-40's. A week before the flight, the equipment was upgraded to the -50. Perhaps this was my last opportunity to catch a -40, you never know what DL will do with 'em. This particular -50 is registered N770NC, and recently celebrated her 31st birthday. You will notice throughout this video, the group behind me makes a considerable amount of noise. I was disappointed that they were able to (at times) make more noise than the P & W JT8D's. But that's just life I guess. Oh- and the window was quite dirty too. The weather was absolutely beautiful, a perfect day for flying. The flight was short, which was a bit disappointing; I could have cruised in that niner all day long! Video was taken from seat 24A. Notice the beeping noise at the beginning during engine start. In case you're wondering, NW mainline service from DTW-PIT has since been cut entirely, to be replaced by a handful of daily CR2 and E75 flights. Yet another victim of this crappy merger. Check out my other DC9 videos: -Northwest DC9-30 Detroit arrival in heavy fog: www.youtube.com -The arrival of this flight in PIT, WITH THRUST REVERSERS!!! : ) (Coming soon!) DC9 PUSH BACK WITH REVERSERS
NORTHWEST DC9 USING ONLY REVERSE THRUST TO PUBH BACK FROM ITS GATE AT MSP AIRPORT. Aircraft involved is N9348 which makes it a DC9-15 taken in June 2004. As some have mentioned it is / was fairly common but not everyone knows it happens hense why i felt it was intrasting to post it. I found this only to be considered ok to do with an high engined aircraft as the engins had mre space arround them to reduce the risk of sucking up FOD. Which is a threat even with the cleanist of airports

Delta DC-9-51 Exterior WALK AROUND and Cabin Walk Through @ BWI (N779NC) 1/10/12
On January 10, 2012 my girlfriend and I took a day trip just to fly on one of Delta's remaining DC-9 jets. I live in Rhode Island, so we took a flight PVD-DTW-BWI and BWI-DTW-PVD, with a CRJ on the first leg, this DC-9 on the second and third legs, and an ERJ on the leg back home. When i boarded the DC-9 on the DTW-BWI leg, i tape recorded the walk from the jetbridge to my seat. Apparently two of the flight attendants noticed this, and upon exiting the DC-9 in BWI they asked me what i was doing; to which i explained how i was an airplane enthusiast. Well, so were they! We had a little chat, and they let me video a complete walk-through of the interior cabin with no one else on board, followed by a WALK AROUND of the DC-9 from the ground with the co-pilot, and another interior walk around, seen here. This was minutes after flight 1536 landed in BWI and minutes before it took off again for DTW. The crew of this flight were absolutely the NICEST i could have ever imagined. They went out of their way to make my girlfriend and myself enjoy our ride on the DC-9. Once they knew why we were flying, they did everything they could to ensure we'd have a good trip- including offer to put us up in first class!! Unfortunately, they put first class in the front of the DC-9, which is too far from the JT8D engines i wanted to sit close to. :) Check my other videos for the first interior walk around, landing and takeoff, and other videos of flights that day! The DC9 has to be one of the ...

DC-9-21 Part 2
This is Part 2 (of a three-part STORY) of the model's test flight attempt. It is also originally rendered in a higher resolution than Part 1.
As noted in Part 1, this radio-control electric ducted fan model aircraft is a real show-stopper! It has been in development since the early 2000s and its builder, John Borgen of Copenhagen, Denmark, is a true detail artist when it comes to the intricacies of copying the real DC-9's flying functions. The whole project was a follow-up to John's A300-B4; both his Airbus and McDonnell-Douglas models are small replicas of original SAS (Scandinavian Airline System) aircraft.
This DC-9-21, in particular, is also a nice tribute to John's good friend, retired SAS Capt. Torben Sørensen, who logged roughly 20,000 hours flying for the airline; and nearly 12,000 of those hours were piloting the DC-9. Torben also retired about 6 years ago as the airline's most senior captain. In fact, the model in the video, Rane Viking, was the last DC-9 in service with SAS and Torben was the PIC (Pilot-In-Command) who ferried this plane to one of the world's aircraft boneyards—or, some say, graveyards—at Roswell, New Mexico.

Memphis takeoff: Northwest Airlines DC-9-41 to Chicago ORD
This flight means something really special to me, since it was my very first DC-9 flight. For me as a German, it is not very easy to get on a DC-9 and I was always desperate to fly on one. During the time I lived in the US I checked out nwa.com for some DC-9 flights and I found a round trip DFW-MEM-ORD-DTW-MEM-DFW for a very reasonable fare. Of course I did not hesistate, went ahead and booked. On an unusually sunny October day in 2007 I had the very best experiences in my career as an aviation fan-3 rides on a DC-9 in a row. I especially enjoyed the ride on the 1968 built rare -40 series (N751NW (cn 47115/261) ) that you can see in this video. There were only about 30 passengers on this short flight from Memphis to Chicago-ORD and I was one of the very few of them sitting in the rear part of the plane. The engine sound and power of this old lady really impressed me, it was an awesome flight done by a very professional crew. Thank you so much NWA for making this day possible and long live the DC-9! Sit back, relax and enjoy the first part of this wonderful flight! Sorry for the spelling error in the titles at the beginning, I somehow messed up to spell "MC Donnell Douglas".

Delta DC-9-51 Start-up / Takeoff DTW-IND Pt. 1/2
This plane was supposed to be a DC-9-40 DTW-MKE. However, that flight to MKE got cancelled (due to mechanical reasons i'm guessing) so I had to be re-directed to MSP via IND. Nontheless I still managed to catch a DC-9. Just not the -40 that I had hoped to.
