The Music - Lotte Lenya Belts Out "Seeräuber Jenny" (Pirate Jenny)

Lovely Lotte belts out "Seeräuber Jenny" (Pirate Jenny) in the original 1931 film version of hubby Kurt Weill and Bertie Brecht's "Die Dreigroschenoper" (The Threepenny Opera) directed by Georg Wilhelm Pabst.

Lots of intensity ... and beauty here!

Adapted from an 18th-century English ballad opera, John Gay's The Beggar's Opera, "Die Dreigroschenoper" offers a Marxist critique of the capitalist world.

The original stage version opened on 31 August 1928 at Berlin's Theater am Schiffbauerdamm.

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold

Mama told me
when I was young;
"Sit beside me
my only son
and listen closely
to what I say
and if you do this
it'll help you
some sunny day.
Be a simple man.
Take your time.
Don't live too fast.
Troubles will come
and they will pass.
Go find a woman,
you'll find love
and don't forget, son,
there is
someone
up above.
And be a simple
kind of man.
Oh, be something
you love and understand.
Baby, be a simple,
be a simple man.
Forget your lust
for the rich man's gold.
All that you need,
oh, Lord, is in your soul.
You can do this
if you try.
All that I want for you
my son
is to be
satisfied
and be a simple
kind of man
Be something
you love and understand.
Oh, don't you worry,
you'll find yourself.
Follow your heart
Lord, and nothing else."

Art of the Mag - Satanic Hollywood Exposed In Photoplay (Dec. 1928)

Isn't it great to see that, all these years later, the satanic/occult foundations of HollyHellLand (and the entire so-called masonic "Entertainment Business") have at last been eradicated!

The Art - A Touch Away

Art of the Cover - Various 4AD Artists' "Lonely Is An Eyesore" (1987)

Magnificent artwork (as is always the case with 4AD records) on this fine collection of tracks from bands on the peerless Britland Indie Label 4AD back in the late Eighties.

A veritable smörgåsbord of quality of acts indeed with the likes of Cocteau Twins, Throwing Muses and 4AD "supergroup" This Mortal Coil !

As a former 4AD addict (still in recovery!), I had this on cassette as a kid, back in the day! If only I had something to play f*cking casssettes with now!

"Lonely Is an Eyesore" was first released back in June 1987, being originally available on LP, CD, cassette, and in a special limited-edition wooden box containing all audio formats along with a video and etchings.

A compilation of music videos for all the songs on the LP was separately released also.

The CD was re-released in the 1990s.

Tracklisting

1. "Hot Doggie" (Colourbox)
2. "Acid, Bitter and Sad" (This Mortal Coil)
3. "Cut the Tree" (The Wolfgang Press)
4. "Fish" (Throwing Muses)
5. "Frontier" (Dead Can Dance)
6. "Crushed" (Cocteau Twins)
7. "No Motion" (Dif Juz)
8. "Muscoviet Musquito" (Clan of Xymox)
9. "The Protagonist" (Dead Can Dance)

Happy New Beer - Roberto Mancini Loving The Start To 2012

Robby the Manc got a real kick (in the ass) out of Sunderland's defeat of Madchester City 1-0 on New Year's Day as Ji Dong-won struck a last-gasp (and offside ... ha! ha!) winner at the Stadium of Light.

The Video - Aidan Moffat & Bill Wells "(If You) Keep Me In Your Heart"

Keep me in your bathroom. Keep me hanging all stretched out and dripping next to you.

A sublime vintagetastic vid for the fine lead single from Falkirk's finest Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat's wonderful 2011 album "Everything's Getting Older." Released last Valentines Day, no less!

A song of love indeed, but since it's Moffat's, a very weird and twisted one! A song of bleak lost love for a gal long gone, a gal who haunts the singer's dreams, the gal he still stalks. A song of love coming perhaps from an angry dishevelled tattooed laddie sat pished in a tawdry, dirty back street Glasgae boozer at three o'clock on a Tuesday afternoon.

The dark troubled lyrics are beautifully counterpointed by Wells' wonderful instrumental embellishments. Gotta love that bossa nova beat, that delicate, ivory tinkling, that cello rumble and that beautiful horn!

'(If You) Keep Me In Your Heart' was the first fruits of Bill and Aidan's collaboration, the initial recordings taking place back in 2003 and features Belle And Sebastian's Stevie Jackson on guitar and ex-Belle alumni Isobell Campbell on cello.

Another typically unique vinyl release from Moffat, the 7" came sealed in a specially designed envelope and includes a Valentine's card from Bill and Aidan, with the lyrics to the song printed inside.

The Song - Tommy James & The Shondells' "Crimson And Clover"

Yeah, my, my such a sweet thing. I wanna do everything. What a beautiful feeling. Crimson and clover, over and over.

Wrapped in a sumptuous melody, doo wop meets the love song meets teenage yearning meets proto garage rock in this great moment from 1969. A simple slice of sublime power pop, one of the band's two No. 1 singles (alongside "Hanky Panky"), written by Tommy James and drummer Peter Lucia Jr.

Didn't Dylan rip off those wonderful backing vocals on the Billy The Kid soundtrack?

No, I shan't speak of the Joan Jett cover! ... Oops, perhaps I just did!

Finally, you gotta love band's name here ... The Shondells! Classic!! ... Although, a little like the famous poolhall fight scene from Mean Streets where some surreal dialogue revolves around "Mook? I'm a mook? ... A mook? What's a mook?", the unavoidable question here is what exactly is a f*cking Shondell?!

... Shondell? I'm a Shondell? ... A Shondell? What's a Shondell?
