The Transfer Window is a Bad Idea
It is just a pathetic attempt to make an 'event' out of what should form part of the day to day running of a club.

I am old enough to remember the world of football before these transfer windows and for the life of me I can't recall thinking 'Hmm you know what would improve football, less freedom to transfer!'. Pretty sure I am not alone in this, I imagine out of the millions that watch football probably three thought this was required.

So what do we get? We get players like Tevez who quite fairly placed a transfer request at the end of last season after playing his socks off who is placed in limbo due to the fact his dream move couldn't be completed before the slamming of the fabricated window.

We get players knowing they are moving but having to wait three months, wonder what that does to their commitment to the cause?

We get managers sacked because it is the only change clubs can make to attempt to alter their fortunes when all they really need is a decent right back.

I hear the argument about lower league teams protecting their squads but there are already rules covering this. Mr Big Club goes to Mr Small Club 'Can I talk to Mr Too Goodforyou about a transfer' if the answer is 'No' it ends there. Basically no different to now except we all have to wait until January.

In return we get an ultimately disappointing month where nothing happens until the last day and an excessive use of news tickers telling us Kaka has been spotted in a Greggs near Wolverhampton. Dump the window!

Beside the obvious addicti ... MORE
