Sony U-matic System Demo (1971)
Sony U-matic System Demo (1971)
In 1969, Sony introduced a prototype for the first widespread video cassette, the 3/4" (1.905 cm) composite U-matic system, which Sony introduced commercially in September 1971 after working out industry standards with other manufacturers. Sony later refined it to Broadcast Video U-matic or BVU. In the early years of the 70's there is for the English market a demonstration video. In this unique demo, we see no videotapes or a tape recorder, but a big studio. We see the new technology in chroma-key, lots of flowers and three women who promotes everything .... © 2011 Sony

1980s' u-matic.....in 2009.
U-matic lives! at Staffs uni tech dungeon. Qucik vid of when my friend Philtron & I commandered a shopping trolley to cart my u-matic recorder down to Staffs' Uni tech dungeon. There amongst the corpses of elderly tech' like Beta SP & 9mm film, we watched a German automotive video shot on u-matic tape from 1982...& then for lighter relief we watched Garth Marenghi's Darkplace through the machine's circuits - via a DVD player. What else are two deviant TV under-grads supposed to do?? Drink & girls you say?! only on Tuesdays matey. Sony BVU 200P. Fully working, fully recordable. Obese in weight & beautifully analogue. 200hours. The first model of high-band u-matic VTRs' for industrial & educational use. Sony U-Matic VO-5630 testing
Sony U-Matic VO-5630 testing
This ancient VCR has been collecting dust... until now. I just hooked it up and it works despite being stored in a closet for more than 10 years. It's being used with Sandisk V-Mate to digitize old U-Matic films my uncle had. Note the flawless hold frame (pause) performance! U-Matic was the first ever home VCR system, launched in the late 1960s.
