He was born in Manly, a suburb of Sydney. At the age of eight he moved with his parents to Yorkshire, England, spent a year in France and finally Glasgow, Scotland, where he studied mechanical engineering (1876–80) at the College of Science and Arts and at the Fairfield Engineering Works. There he joined the St Mungo Art Club, exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy at the age of seventeen.
After serving four years at sea as a ship's engineer, he settled in London, where he began painting professionally as well as teaching. He returned to Sydney in 1888 where he began producing the seascapes and coastal scenes for which he is best known.
He joined the Art Society (later Royal Art Society), and remained with that organization through its many upheavals, exhibiting from 1899.
In 1898 he exhibited successfully at an Exhibition of Australian Art at the Grafton Galleries, London.
In 1900 he was appointed a trustee of the National Gallery of New South Wales and served as vice-president from 1919–43.
He was a regular exhibitor at Anthony Hordern's art gallery from 1919–40. Margaret Preston cited him as an early influence.
He died as the result of a traffic accident, after being struck by a taxi.

Wan Li () (born 1 December 1916) was during a long administrative career in the People's Republic of China Vice Premier, National People's Congress Chairman, and a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, its Secretariat and its Politburo. He was born in Shandong.
In 1952 Wan moved into national-level politics. He shortly became the Vice Minister of Architectural Engineering (1953) followed by the post of Minister of Urban Construction (1955). From 1958, he was a secretary of the Beijing Municipality CPC Committee (under Peng Zhen) and Vice Mayor of the city government.
After their initiative was supported by Wan Li, and later in Sichuan province by Zhao Ziyang, it became national policy. The Anhui agricultural reforms were heralded as brilliant innovations by the central government. Wan Li was immortalised in the folk saying "If you want to eat rice, look for Wan Li." (要吃米, 找万里)
Wan Li became the Vice Premier in 1984 and the Chairman of the National People's Congress in 1988. Wan backed Hu Yaobang and Zhao Ziyang in arguing to spread the household land contract scheme nationwide in 1979-81. He also supported Zhao in curtailing the Anti-Spiritual Pollution Campaign in the mid-1980s.
After the January 1987 resignation of CPC General Secretary Hu Yaobang, Wan Li was named to the interim five- member party Politburo Standing Committee; he was confirmed in that role at the September 1987 13th National Party Congress. The appointment was opposed by party elder Bo Yibo and others in the Chen Yun faction such as Yao Yilin. While resistance to Wan remaining on the PBSC had to yield to Deng Xiaoping's wishes, the conservatives were able to block Wan's elevation to the State Presidency, a position handed to General Yang Shangkun. As a compromise, Wan was named Chairman of the National People's Congress.
He was on an official visit to Canada and the United States during the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, and made speeches sympathetic to the student movement. Some of the protestors planned a demonstration to welcome him back to Beijing in late May. But instead he returned to Shanghai, where he was met by Jiang Zemin and others who tried to persuade him to oppose the protests. It's been suggested that he was temporarily put under house arrest. He expressed conditional support for the leadership on May 27th, suggesting that a tiny minority of the protestors were conspiring to overthrow the government. He kept his position until he retired in 1993.
In 2004, he called for more democratic decision-making procedures in China to improve the country's "imperfect" Socialist system and boost economic development. Along with 20 other retired Politburo members, they openly asked the Central Government to rehabilitate former General Secretary and Premier Zhao Ziyang’s name and hold memorial services for him for his many important contributions to China.

In 1968, when Edwin Hawkins released "Oh Happy Day", the contemporary arrangement caught Coley's ear. In December 1969, at the age of 13, Coley first heard Helen Stephens And The Voices Of Christ, and by February of the next year had become a member of the nationally acclaimed ensemble. During his high school years, Coley was a student of Phillip Reeder, choir director at the school. Reeder helped Coley broaden his musical boundaries and even influenced him to advance to college. Coley's career advanced further as he pursued studies in college; being a top student, working toward a business degree, and even assisting in teaching college courses. However, when things began to open up musically, Coley took a break from his studies.
In 1986, Coley released his solo debut album ''Just Daryl'', originally released in 1986 on First Epistle/Plumline Records. The album was nominated for a Grammy award, and was later re-released in 2006. After the success of "Just Daryl", Coley moved to gospel stardom, releasing critically acclaimed albums highlighting his jazz-infused vocal stylings. In 1990, Coley released ''He's Right On Time: Live From Los Angeles'' with Sparrow Records, climbing to the #3 spot on the gospel charts. His following album ''When The Music Stops'', released in 1992, reached #1 on the gospel charts.
In 1991, when his albums released under Sparrow Records were achieving national success, Coley fell sick, experiencing flu-like symptoms. Wen he visited his doctor (more than two weeks later), he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, which caused him temporary blindness. He has continued to struggle with diabetes throughout his life.

Travis Rice (born October 9, 1982 Jackson Hole, Wyoming) is a professional snowboarder who grew up and currently resides by Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. He is #13 on Snowboarder Magazine’s list of the Top Twenty Most Influential Riders, and is known for being the Paul Revere of the big mountain freestyle movement.
Raised a skier by his father, a member of Jackson Hole Ski Patrol, Rice initially did not understand the rave of the new sport springing up on his mountain. However, he would soon catch on and join the local team. In 2001, without a sponsor and only 18 years old, Rice drove to Mammoth Mountain in California to ride at Snowboarder Magazine’s “Superpark”. Recognition from the snowboarding world would come at this event, when Rice launched a backside rodeo off a 110 foot gap jump. Absinthe Films' producer Justin Hostynek immediately approached Rice to begin filming for their upcoming movie, Transcendence, and the rest is history.
Rice has filmed outstanding video parts year after year, producing jaw-dropping shots like his switch 540 over Chad’s Gap in Utah, a 120 foot backcountry gap jump. On top of that, he has won several US Opens, an X-Games gold, and an Icer Air gold, where he landed the first double rodeo 1080 in competition. In 2008, Rice co-produced (with filmmaker Curt Morgan) and starred in the snowboarding film ''That’s It That’s All''. This film featured a dream cast of Troy Blackburn, Jeremy Jones, Mark Landvik, Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Müller, Scotty Lago, Pat Moore, John Jackson, Jake Blauvelt, and fellow Jackson Hole residents Bryan Iguchi and Kyle Clancy. Rice’s part in That’s It That’s All, which included the first ever double cork 1260, heavily influenced his sweep at the Transworld Magazine Rider’s Poll. He won Rider of the Year, Video Part of the Year, Standout of the Year, and Readers’ Choice award. In September 2011, Rice will release "The Art of Flight," a film made in collaboration with the same team behind "That's It, That's All," including John Jackson, Mark Landvik and Jeremy Jones.
His sponsors are Quiksilver, LIB Tech, Victoria Secret, DC, Red Bull, Bluebird Wax, Jack’s Garage & Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
