Primal Scream bid farewell to Mani at Edinburgh Hogmanay gig

Bassist bows out of Bobby Gillespie's band ahead of this year's Stone Roses reunion gigs

Mani played his final gig with Primal Scream at Edinburgh's annual Hogmanay bash last night (December 31).

The bassist, who is leaving to concentrate on playing with the recently reunited Stone Roses, pretended to wipe away a tear as he took to the stage at the gig, which was held at the city's West Princes Street Gardens.

Bobby Gillespie and co played a career-spanning 12 song set, divided into two halves by the traditional new year bells and fireworks.

They kicked off with a quartet of songs from their seminal 1991 album 'Screamadelica', before closing the first half of the show with two tracks from 2000's 'XTRMNTR' LP, 'Accelerator' and 'Shoot Speed, Kill Light'.

Meanwhile, the second half of the gig featured the likes of 'Jailbird' and their 2006 single 'Country Girl'.

Earlier in the evening, Bombay Bicycle Club and Sons & Daughters played well-received sets to the outdoor crowd.

Mani will now go on to play a number of reunion shows with The Stone Roses later this year, with three massive homecoming gigs at Heaton Park due to take place on June 29, 30 and July 1. The band will also play a number of festival shows, including slots at Denmark's NorthSide, Sweden's Hultsfred, T In The Park, Benicassim, Norway's Øya Festival and Japan's Fuji Rock. A slot at V Festival is also strongly rumoured.

Meanwhile, Primal Scream are currently working on their first studio album since 2008's 'Beautiful Future', which is expected to be released later this year.
