Happy New Year From About.com

Saturday December 31, 2011

I created an amazing year for myself in 2011. I spent a month in Thailand, a couple months in Texas with my family, I visited New Orleans and I road tripped from Texas to NYC with my best friend's daughter. I spent the summer on the beach, eating meals crafted from farmer stands and our organic garden and I spent 5 weeks falling deeply in love with India. Christmas was spent with my very best friends in Seattle. Ahhhh, such bliss.

Life hasn't been without its struggles for me, but I have learned in life that one must create amazing moments, one can't just wait for them to happen. While we can't control what happens to us, we can control how we react to what happens to us. My wish for all of you in 2012 is that you create for yourself a life you are proud of so that at any time you can look back on the years and say to yourself, "Wow. I have had an incredible life." Maybe this means being a devoted parent or child or partner. Maybe this means building a career you're proud of. It could mean getting yourself out of a situation in which you are unhappy or applying to college or a master's program. Maybe it means moving to a city where you know no one. I did that twice. Best decisions I ever made.

Someone sent me this today and I liked it so much, I'm sharing it with you:

"May you feel the warmth of a loving hug, the laughter of children at play, the joy of playing in the first snow of the year, the excitement of the unopened present, the faith of a child's belief, the patience of a saint, and Love of all the above. Happy New Year."

Great Oil for Dry Skin: JASON Natural Vitamin E Oil

Wednesday December 28, 2011

My friend Deirdre has super dry, rosacea-ridden skin which she's complained about constantly over the 13 years that we've been dear friends. So when she told me with glee in her eyes that she had a product she absolutely swore by and I had to write about, I perked up.

"It's my winter lifesaver," she said, plopping down JASON Natural Vitamin E Oil in front of me, the oil so thick a fine film of it covers the bottle. "It's just great for chronically dry winter skin. It's also great for chapped lips."

According to the JASON Website, Vitamin E helps heal sun- and wind-damaged skin, improves elasticity and prevents damage from environmental toxins. Also, Vitamin E absorbs well into the skin, making it one of the most popular oils on the market. It's also natural.

Deirdre uses the 32,000 I.U. version, which she admits is too heavy for summer and spring, but the oil comes in 5,000, 14,000 and 45,000 versions as well. Buy it online here and read more about JASON products on their Website.
