11.11.11 Give Peace A Chance

Posted in Comment with tags , , , , , on November 11, 2011 by theroguetrooper

Fight war not wars.  Make peace not war.  Find common ground.  Show tolerance.  Offer a helping hand.  Make an effort to understand those things that scare you.  Be forward thinking.  Resolve conflict don’t fuel it. Fight war not wars.

It would be very easy here in the uk to get involved in the debate that rages about the wearing of the poppy.  It goes without saying we should never forget the countless ordinary men, women and children who lost their lives in wars they did not start. Those who start wars never fight them….

Those who start wars, never fight them
And those who fight wars, they never like them
And those who write laws, they can’t recite them
And those of us who just fight laws, we live and die them

I will be honest I just stumbled on this piece.   It is worth sharing

“But what about human nature? Can it be changed? And if not, will it endure under Anarchism?

Poor human nature, what horrible crimes have been committed in thy name! Every fool, from king to policeman, from the flatheaded parson to the visionless dabbler in science, presumes to speak authoritatively of human nature. The greater the mental charlatan, the more definite his insistence on the wickedness and weaknesses of human nature. Yet, how can any one speak of it today, with every soul in a prison, with every heart fettered, wounded, and maimed?

John Burroughs has stated that experimental study of animals in captivity is absolutely useless. Their character, their habits, their appetites undergo a complete transformation when torn from their soil in field and forest. With human nature caged in a narrow space, whipped daily into submission, how can we speak of its potentialities?

Freedom, expansion, opportunity, and, above all, peace and repose, alone can teach us the real dominant factors of human nature and all its wonderful possibilities.

Anarchism, then, really stands for the liberation of the human mind from the dominion of religion; the liberation of the human body from the dominion of property; liberation from the shackles and restraint of government. Anarchism stands for a social order based on the free grouping of individuals for the purpose of producing real social wealth; an order that will guarantee to every human being free access to the earth and full enjoyment of the necessities of life, according to individual desires, tastes, and inclinations.

This is not a wild fancy or an aberration of the mind. It is the conclusion arrived at by hosts of intellectual men and women the world over; a conclusion resulting from the close and studious observation of the tendencies of modern society: individual liberty and economic equality, the twin forces for the birth of what is fine and true in man.”

I often wonder…..

Posted in Comment with tags , , , , , , , , on October 13, 2011 by theroguetrooper

I cannot plan what I write or post here.  I had this confirmed to me through my own endeavour’s.  At the beginning of this year I thought it would be good to try and write some kind of monthly reflection of events and my experience of them.  I think I managed one post.

I have never been one to plan ahead, to set my stall out and achieve targets.  I never had a plan (probably incase it didn’t work out) so my plan to do a monthly reflection soon fell by the wayside.  It is safe to say when it comes to order and discipline I become uncomfortable, fidgety and irritated.

Anyway how on earth could anyone managed to do a monthly reflection of a world that is becoming so unpredictable.  Could you?  I couldn’t.  I will be the first to hold my hands up and say the world for many reasons both personal and political has been pretty overwhelming this year.   The so-called Arab spring, the Japanese Tsunami, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, the News International scandal, the murder of a personal friend, George Osborne exotic ladies and the marching powder, burning Britain (the tories are in again), finding out my old flatmate had drowned in the ocean off  Indonesia, the arrogance of Liam Fox, occupy Wall Street, NATO attacking Lybia but somehow ignoring Syria (not that the author in anyway is condoning the actions of NATO and it’s murderous campaign in Lybia), the struggle for Greece, ratings agencies and shadowy bankers dictating how we live and a growing grassroots movement for change all over the world.  I couldn’t coherently link all that up if I tried.  It is not because I am not capable, moreover it is because it is to me overwhelming.

The world is a strange place, human beings are strange beings.  We are a odd mixture of evil, compassion, innovation and destruction.  Good and bad in the simplest of terms.   We are capable of just about anything, that has been proven time and time again yet somehow we seem hell bent on destroying anything that is good in favour of all that is bad.   The world is largely unpredictable and will continue to be so, which in essence is no bad thing.

The one thing which is predictable however is this.  Capitalism does not work, it never really worked and it never really will work.  People think when you talk of “getting rid of capitalism” that somehow all the lights will go out, the freezer will stop working and we will all starve.  We will somehow return to some dark age, where only the most powerful will propser…er…excuse me but that is what we have now.  So in essence such a view is  a load of bollocks !!!

When people talk of doing away with capitalism all they are talking about is finding a better fairer system of exchange; one that ensures every person on this planet is treated fairly and equally.  It doesn’t mean we have to play non-competitive sports and all wear the same clothes and sport the same friggin haircuts.  It means we treat each other with dignity and respect, it means we produce goods and services for the common good rather than the enrichment of a tiny minority.  It means we confront problems collectively, it means we look out for each other safe in the knowledge that in doing so we create the time and space to create a world of beauty rather than a world of hate, cynicism, fear and greed.  Occupy Wall Street?  Occupy every street, make them our own, make them safe for the kids to play in, make them safe for everyone.  Naive?  Think what you will, call me naive, tell I am wrong, but don’t come crying to me when there is no food in the cupboard.

An open letter to David Cameron

Dear Mr Cameron

I see your friends in America believe they have foiled a plot to bomb a restaurant in Washington where the Saudi ambassador to the US usually eats.  Notably your friends in the White House are accusing the Iranian state of funding this and in doing so “breaching international norms”.  I note you Mr Cameron already back the US in whatever action deemed necessary.

Let us if you will stop and think for a minute.  Iran is made up of millions of people.  They go to work, go to school, college, university, the markets, the shopping malls (yes they do have them in Tehran) and the mosque (just like you wish we would all go to church and submit to the will of god).  Those ordinary people in Iran right now have nothing to do with the actions of their government just like we have nothing to do and no real say in the things you get up to.  Those ordinary people in Iran (just like your favoured “squeezed middle” here) grow up, fall in love, get married (in some cases) have families, some will fall in love with someone of the same sex and be hounded everyday because of the ideas and influence of some geriatric theologian.  Some look after their friends, elders and the disabled or campaign for their rights.  Some fall out of love, have disagreements, some of them write music, some will write poetry, some will teach, some will build houses or drive taxis.  Others will bake bread or nurse the sick.  All of those ordinary people over in Iran will play some part in the day-to-day life of that country, just like we do here.  Some will do better than others, some will need a helping hand or someone to listen to their fears.  They like the rest of us require food, clothes and shelter in order to function at a decent level.

The ordinary people of Iran are just like me and my family and friends, so lets not have a march to war and kill hundreds and thousands more innocent people than already have been killed across the globe in these wars of falsehood.  Lets not murder and maim hundreds and thousands of more innocents simply because you and your pals in the USA don’t like their particular system of governance.  If you have caught the so-called terrorist plotters then you have caught them.  Leave the ordinary people alone.  They have their daily lives to attend to, why should bombs rain down on them? Why should they bear the brunt of your sanctions?  What have they done to deserve any attack.  What have they done to be forcibly isolated form the rest of the world and turned into pariahs?  Is their crime merely that they were born and bred in Iran?   The people you are after will be tucked away in bunkers just like you would if the boot was on the other foot.  There is nothing brave about war, nothing good will come of it only the murder and slaughter of the innocent.

Be brave, make a stand for peace.

Wall Street Occupied.

Click on the link above for pics from Wall Street.  Just so anyone perusing my blog can see what is happening on Wall Street.  Keep the faith.  The above picture is not from Wall Street but was recently taken by the author of this blog at the Estacion de Guaguas, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.  Wherever you go you will encounter one way or another a groundswell of opinion that is saying enough is enough. 1% of the population are directing what the other 99% face.

Palestine

When I read in the press Tony Blair denounces the Palestinian bid for statehood as “deeply confrontational” I can only say say I am utterly disgusted.  The man who sanctioned the illegal war in Iraq and who went on to a-mass a personal fortune on the back of it should have no say in the matter.  This country for all it’s bluster about human rights abuses in other lands and it’s carefully selected interventions abroad is a disgrace.   Funny how in ” in his inaugural speech to the UN General Assembly, David Cameron enthused about the change of power in Libya and made a plea for the United Nations to be united not just in condemnation of repressive regimes, but in action”.  So why not the same for Palestine and publicly back the bid David?  Rank hypocrisy rides again.  Is Britain about to let Palestine down again?  Britain has been letting down Palestine on a daily basis since the separation sixty-three years ago.   Enough is enough.
