Thanks to all of the people who visited over the years, the party continues on my new website.

Cheers, Bg

I am having my first ever gallery exhibition of my editorial work at Ottawa Studio Works on Preston St. in Ottawa this Thursday, August 18, 2011. I will be giving a little chat about photojournalism and showing 20 of my favorite and most important images from my last three years as an independent photographer. You can get more info on the Facebook event page and from the Ottawa Studio Work’s blog post about the event. Some of the participants are going to the World Press Photo Exhibit at the Canadian War Museum at 6:30 pm before my show-and-tell at 8 pm. I hope a few of you readers can make it! I am sure there will be some type of drinking competition at the Heart and Crown pub down the street afterwards.

Thursday, August 18, 2011 – 160 Preston St. @ 8 pm – 10 pm.

It is legit, there is a picture of my in the display case!

Thanks to Ottawa photographer Harry Nowell for encouraging me to show my work and host the event.

Ottawa photographer Blair Gable, independent photojournalist and all-around interesting guy, will be giving a presentation, showing his work and sharing his experiences. He’s had inside access to federal politics that has enabled him to photograph some of the most powerful presidents, prime ministers and royals in the world.

RSVP appreciated!

All prints were made by Ottawa’s best custom printer Dave Andrews at Digital Art and Restoration!

Day three on assignment in Ottawa with the Royal couple Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. This time they brought the Will and Kate show to the Canadian War Museum to greet war veterans and their families. The amount of time they spend speaking with people at each event it has impressed me. They are not just there to shake as many hands as possible, they spend a fair amount of time with each person they meet. This tour was the first time that I have covered a major event and felt relatively calm the whole time. Those that know me know that I can get a wee bit edgy on these types of gigs. I don’t like surprises, especially when it impedes my ability to make the pictures I want. However, thanks to the amazing planning and wonderful common sense of Terry, Collin, Marc and Norm from the National Press Gallery, everything went amazingly well. The British media keep threatening to steal them from us to run the show across the pond.

Royally Sworn In

It is Canada Day and day two with Britain’s Prince William and Lady Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. They made a bid more history today. This was the first time that a member of the Royal family took part in a citizenship swearing-in ceremony. I can only imagine that this was a very cool for these privileged new-Canadians; Something that will be told to the future generations of their family.

They did more than sit on stage and look pretty – they mixed it up with the new Canadians and their families in the crowd.

I haven’t been this excited for an assignment in a long time. Britain’s Prince William and his lovely wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, arrived in Ottawa and are staying for three days during their cross-Canada tour this summer while on their first official state visit as a married couple. I photographed them being greeted by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen before taking part in a wreath laying ceremony at the National War Memorial. They are very impressive in real-life, more so than I had anticipated. Here are some images from day one.

Book the Queen

The new Reuters photo book Our World Now 4 has just come out and one of my images has been used in it. The image is of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth waiting for Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff to arrive at Rideau Hall during her visit to Ottawa for Canada Day last year. The book is filled with the best international photography of last year – really powerful stuff. This is the first time (to my knowledge) that one of my images has been used in a book that will be sold at Chapters. I have stuff in a few text books, but not any coffee tables books. I cannot wait to photograph the newly married royals Prince William and Lady Kate when they come to Ottawa this summer. You’ve all seen the image before, but here it is again.

Sens go Flying

Last Ottawa Senators post for a long time. I had a few good games at the end of the season, this one slipped through the cracks in between all of the baseball posts. Here are a few zingers.

Neil throws hecka-punches.

Foligno has the highlight of the night.

Zach Smith gets crushed.

Lessard get deliberate.
