"American Horror Story" has been anything but romantic so far. We've seen a lot of murder, gore and between the sheets action, but romance is - if you'll excuse the pun - dead. This week, in what was probably the worst concealed twist in TV history, Violet Harmon (Taissa Farmiga) was revealed to have died. However, even though the plot was a tad predictable, it didn't take away the beauty of the way it all unfolded. Here is a look at how love touched "American Horror Story" during Episode 10.
Tate didn't want Violet to know the truth about how she died
Tate (Evan Peters) has been something of an oddity so far. He really seems to love Violet, but when he isn't around her, he can be pure evil. We know that when he was alive, he set fire to his mother's lover, Larry (Denis O'Hare) and shot up his school. Since he has been dead, he has killed many of the residents of the murder house, traumatized a schoolgirl and raped Vivien (Connie Britton).
Violet knew that Tate was dead, but she didn't know that she was dead following her suicide attempt. In Episode 10, Tate tried to convince Violet that the only way they could be together was if they were both dead. Although this sounds sick and twisted, which of course it would be if this show truly reflected real life, Tate had his reasons. He loves her so much, that he would rather she thought he talked her into suicide, than have her realize that she had already died.
It was both horrifying and touching when Violet discovered the truth. While the entire situation is awful, there is something incredible about how Violet managed to find a side of Tate that nobody ever saw before. The next question is, can she find a way to break the hold the other female ghosts in the house have over him?
Larry took the fall for Constance
When the police arrived at Constance's (Jessica Lange) house, it seemed obvious that they were going to pin Travis' (Michael Graziadei) murder on her. This time, she wasn't guilty, and she was sure that her former lover, Larry had killed him out of jealousy. The truth is that Hayden (Kate Mara) killed him, and Larry moved the body.
Previous episodes showed just how much Larry had once loved Constance, but it seemed that she had merely used him to do her dirty work. In the present, Constance has shown absolute disgust for Larry, and often made digs about his disfigured face. No matter how badly she treated him, Larry's feelings for Constance never really went away, and when it looked as though she was about to go to jail for Travis' murder, he stepped up and confessed to a crime he didn't commit.
Larry did some bad things in his life, but taking the fall for the woman he loves, even though he got no thanks for it, was his way of making up for his mistakes. Whether Constance ever loved him is still up for debate, but it Is very possible that she did, but felt that admitting it would be a weakness.
In spite of all the atrocities that happen in "American Horror Story," there is something bigger lurking under the surface, and it isn't always as sinister as it first appears. Love might not seem like an obvious theme for the show to have, but this week, there was proof that it is there!
