Greetings from Flaming Athens!

“What was a surprise for the political world of Greece, and even for us (anarchists) — the first line of the battle with the cops was for the first time held by massive numbers of kids 15-18 who had never appeared before in our meetings, discussions and political movements.”

Dear friends and comrades,

I read your discussion with great interest and, as participant in the general revolt that has taken place here in Athens Greece, as well as other main cities all over the country, I would like to contribute my first hand impression of the situation here:

In the massive crowds that took the streets of Athens for the past 4 days, participated with distinguishable signs and blocks almost all the left groups with recent and old activity in Greece. Anarchists, Autonomous lefts, Reformists, Antifascists-anti racist movements, greens, even the official communist party (which has formed a government with the conservative right 10 years ago…!). Numbers of the people in the streets reached 18-20.000 in the first 2 days. Among them, all ages from 12 to 70.

Its true that the battle was run mainly by the anarchists, but all the rest left forces remained there on the streets for hours to demonstrate against the police murder and the government injustice and corruption.

What was a surprise for the political world of Greece, and even for us (anarchists) — the first line of the battle with the cops was for the first time held by massive numbers of kids 15-18 who had never appeared before in our meetings, discussions and political movements. This is a new wave of anger, particularly of the very young, who suffer the insecurity of their own future.
