Russian Heavy Tank KV-1 - Full Option Kit
Named after the Soviet defense commissar Kliment Voroshilov, testing of the KV along with 3 multi-turreted tanks the T-35, T-100, and the SMK began in September 1939. These tanks were soon battlefield tested during the "Winter War" from December the same year. Battlefield experience revealed the SMK and T-100's poor mobility, while the KV's good performance led to its adoption as the Soviet Army's next generation heavy tank. During WWII, the KV-1 heavy tank proved to be a difficult customer to handle for the invading German Army and forced them to build stronger and heavier tanks

Kliment Voroshilov KV-1 tank
Kliment Voroshilov KV-1 tank
The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) tanks were a series of Soviet heavy tanks, named after the Soviet defense commissar and politician Kliment Voroshilov. The KV series were known for their extremely heavy armour protection during the early war, especially during the first year of the invasion of the Soviet Union in World War II. Almost completely immune to the 7.5 cm KwK 37 and 3.7 cm KwK 36 guns mounted on the early Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, until better guns were developed often the only way to defeat a KV was a point-blank shot to the rear. Prior to the invasion, about 500 of the over 22000 tanks in Soviet service at the time were of the KV-1 type. When the KV-1 appeared, it outclassed the French Char B1, the only heavy tank used in the world at that time. Yet in the end it turned out that there was little sense in producing the expensive KV tanks, as the T-34 medium tank performed better (or at least equally) in all practical respects. Later in the war, the KV series became a base of development of the Iosif Stalin tanks.

Russian KV1 salvaged from the Neva River 2011
Russian KV1 salvaged from the Neva River 2011
A WWII tank which was lifted off the bottom of the Neva River in St.Petersburg in November is a Soviet-made KV-1 heavy tank. Commenting on Thursday's lifting, experts suggested that the KV-1, which was found earlier this year, apparently fell into the river between September 1941 and January 1943, when the Red Army was fighting Nazi troops during the Siege of Leningrad. Despite the stormy weather and the river's depth at the site being over 15 meters, the operation to retrieve the 50-ton vehicle was successful. The tank was lifted with the help of a floating crane. It turned out that the KV-1 sank with a number of shells on board. "An emergency team tackled the utilization of the ammunition, Bobrun explains. No remains of the crew have been discovered which indicates that crewmembers had managed to withdraw from the sinking vehicle. Most likely, the tank drowned during a pontoon crossing in the combat area. The KV-1 tank was named after the Soviet Peoples' Commissar of Defense, Kliment Voroshilov. The tank was known for its extremely heavy armor protection and powerful weapons which helped it destroy any tank the Wehrmacht had to offer in the early days of the war. At the end of the day, it turned out that there was little sense in producing expensive and extremely heavy KV-1 tanks which were finally mothballed in 1943. After recovery, the KV-1 is expected to take part in parades and historical reconstructions.

KV-1 VS Tank, VSP PRO Infra Red Battle Tank, WWII series (Hi Definition)
KV-1 VS Tank, VSP PRO Infra Red Battle Tank, WWII series (Hi Definition)
This is the first VSP series VSTank that I am disappointed with. Watch this video and see why I am not impressed with this KV-1 Infra Red battle tank....... NOTE: This video was made prior to my discovering that this tank pulls to one side while in forward motion. I also made this video prior to being aware that the flash of light which indicates the tank has been hit by another tank's infra red gun is very subdued compared to other models. (Check out my other video on this tank). UPDATE: Feb 7, 2011. Since making this video I have received another six VSP series tanks. I have found that all the most recently produced ones lack weathering effect. Please see my video "VS Tank VSP PRO Series - lack of weathering effect on recently produced model tanks" where I directly compare the weathering on two VSP Tiger 1 Tanks (Green Camouflage); one made in 2008/09 to one made late 2010..

VS Tank Pro Soviet KV-1 and German Tiger 1 (Hi Definition)
VS Tank Pro Soviet KV-1 and German Tiger 1 (Hi Definition)
Here are two VS tank RC models of tanks from WWII - the Soviet Red Army KV-1 and the German Tiger 1. While the VS tank Tiger 1 model has been around for some time, the KV-1 appears to be a relatively newer release. My KV-1 is the 2010 model and at last VS Tank has begun to put a volume control on some of their model tanks. The KV-1 comes with a mute, low volume, high volume switch. If you have watched my other VS Tank videos you will know that I am usually very enthusiastic about the VSP Infra Red series of tanks. Generally VS Tank is renowned for their quality and attention to small details. However on this occasion I have to say they have 'dropped the ball' entirely. I am not impressed with the KV-1 and I am hoping that this is not a sign of things to come in the future. (There appear to be some big changes happening at VS tank at the moment). In my opinion the same attention to detail and quality just isn't there on the KV-1. In my view it almost appears as if it was made by another company altogether. Unlike all my other VS Tanks, the KV-1 has a very cheap plastic appearance. The tracks in particular look very low-cost and nasty; they are jet black color and look more like one would expect to see fitted to a cheap toy tank rather than a VSP model. Take a close look at my video and compare the KV-1 to the Tiger 1 sitting beside it. They cost the same price, but are certainly not the same quality. Also compare the photos of the KV-1 on the VS tank / ToyEast sites to my ...

Ryan now has light controls, slow motor control, a tamiya compatible IR Combat system, and realistic Russian V8 Diesel engine and DT Machinegun sounds. This system uses a 4 channel hobby radio.
