Biodiversity

We were the first in the construction sector to develop a company-wide Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), first published in 2002 and covering a five year period. In this initial plan, the fundamental approach was to use site based BAPs to deliver biodiversity protection and enhancement.

A programme of training was introduced, delivered by the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust to develop capacity within operational teams in the effective management of biodiversity. Progress against the company BAP objectives has been reported in our annual sustainability reports since 2003.

In 2009 we renewed our partnership with The Wildlife Trusts, originally supporting their Breathing Places programme. The new exciting three-year partnership will see Aggregate Industries support their Directors’ Conference and second two members of staff, each on consecutive 18 month contracts, to roles with The Wildlife Trusts.

In this section of our website we have included a series of case studies where you can see what we are doing at our sites across the UK. You can also download our current Biodiversity plan 2008-2012.
