Tomba!, known as Tombi! in Europe and Ore! Tomba (オレっ!トンバ, Ore! Tonba, lit. "Me! Tomba") in Japan, is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Whoopee Camp for the PlayStation console. Tomba! was released on December 25, 1997 in Japan. The game was followed by a sequel, Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return. The colorful imaginative atmosphere and innovative gameplay has continued to keep it nostalgically popular with gamers. The series is the brainchild of Tokuro Fujiwara. It was also one of the first PlayStation games to take advantage of the DualShock feature.
The intro song to the European version, No Sweat!, was performed by the CBBC band, North & South, whereas the North American version is an instrumental of Paradise by Tokyo Q Channel.
The game has been re-released on the PlayStation Network as a PSone Classic.
Tomba! is a side-scrolling platformer in which players control Tomba, a wild boy on the search for his grandfather's bangle that was stolen by some evil pigs. Although Tomba is normally restricted to a two-dimensional plane, there are certain points where he can jump or climb onto a new plane. Tomba's main method of attack is to jump on top of enemies to grab them, allowing him to hop around on them before throwing them away. This can also be used to open other objects such as eggs or treasure chests. Tomba is also able to use various projectile weapons such as maces and boomerangs and can swing on branches and poles.
Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return, known as Tombi! 2 in Europe and Tomba! The Wild Adventures (トンバ!ザ・ワイルドアドベンチャー, Tonba! Za Wairudo Adobenchā) in Japan, is a platform video game developed by Whoopee Camp and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. It is the sequel to the 1998 game, Tomba! The game was released in Japan on October 28, 1999, in North America on December 31, 1999 and in Europe on June 30, 2000. It was re-released on the PlayStation Network as a PSone Classic in Japan on September 28, 2011, in Europe on November 21, 2012 and in the United States on February 18, 2014. The English-language version of the game was released on the United States PlayStation Network on November 3, 2015.
The game received generally positive reviews by critics, who praised the improved gameplay and graphics in comparison to the previous game, however cited the generic music and repetitive boss battles.
