ABC Cancels 'Charlie's Angels'

ABC has canceled its Charlie’s Angels reboot.

Despite built-in brand recognition and heavy marketing blitz during the summer, the Miami-set reboot from Smallville duo Alfred Gough and Miles Millar failed to make a dent against heavy Thursday night competition.

Production has already been shut been shut down. The remaining episodes will continue to air until the network makes a decision on what will take its place and when. On Thursday, Oct. 27, ABC will air The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown at 8 p.m.

In its Sept. 22 premiere, the Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh starrer attracted 8.7 million viewers and a 2.1 rating in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic against competition including the second night of Fox’s X Factor premiere. As the season progressed, the hourlong drama failed to match its debut ratings, sinking each week.

After critics and viewers blasted the show following its premiere, the action drama that counts Drew Barrymore as an executive producer dropped 29 percent, collecting 7.2 million viewers and a 1.5 in the demo. For its third episode on Oct. 6, Angels attracted 5.9 million viewers and a 1.2 in the demo, matching the CW's The Vampire Diaries. Last night, Angels saw a slight uptick, improving to a 1.3 rating.

ABC recently picked up Suburgatory and Revenge for full seasons and ordered additional scripts for Happy Endings. The net rolls out Man Up! and ambitious fairytale drama Once Upon a Time next.

Angels joins NBC’s The Playboy Club and Free Agents, as well as CBS' How to Be a Gentleman and the CW's unscripted show H8R as rookie series that failed to catch on.

Now it's time to thin out all those reality shows, with one or two exceptions. Who really gets anything out of watching others people make fools of themselves. The producers should be in therapy along with the people they take advantage of.

I'm thinking the traditional "Big 3" networks need to look at USA Network for guidance. Look at how many hit shows they've been able to come up with over the last few years - Burn Notice, Royal Pains, etc. True, USA's audience is smaller than ABC/CBS/NBC, but there's still something to learn here. They've made fun, exciting shows people want to watch and have made them work on a limited production budget.

It can't hurt to try something different than recycling a 70's TV show that wasn't all that great to begin with, y'know?

The creaters of most network shows must think we are idiots. Little wonder they are being canclled. Fire the lot and find some one who will give TV viewers something worth watching while we veg on the coutch. BTW, lose those reality shows and give us something to think about. Who really cares about a no talent nobody with a housefull of kids.

I'm probably in the minority, but my favorite Angel was Kate Jackson. I also watched "The Scarecrow and Mrs.King" because she was in it. I hope they don't try to remake that, they'll just mess it up too.

The whole premise for this remake was wrong. The young Bosely dude didn't blend into the background and the three actresses should have had a more dynamic detective role. The tempo of the dialogue was uneven, too slow and shallow. Script seemed to keep you waiting.

I'd rather watch a remake of old tv shows than watch all this garbage of reality tv shows. I can't find any good shows anymore. I'm sick and tired that everytime I searched all I see are this reality shows.

Saw that one coming a mile away. Now do that same for reality tv garbage. Bring back/create shows with some meaning, shows people can watch with their families. End this cycle of trash once and for all. The viewers will respond with high ratings.

They can go ahead and take most of the new sitcoms off while they're at it. That Zoey lady deserves a better show than New Girl. It stinks!

After every daytime and nighttime TV program promotes these idiotic new shows and we have to turn off the "stars" being promoted by bared legs and crotched female talking heads, and every book that has been printed until the sponsors learn they should have 1) kept their promos off other programs, ad nausum; 2) stopped producing idiotic programming; 3) stopped re-runs like we are idiots and can't find what WE want to see, when we want to see it; 4) limit commericals to 2 minutes, max - then maybe audiences will return, but not until the idiots are gone, and all of reality TV and the infomericals are gone (Oz, Oprah, Berkus, The View, et al).

It's all demeaning, and in case the producers haven't noticed, the public if fed up with being treated like numbskulls!
