Philosophers' Carnival

What is this site?
This site is the homepage for the Philosophers' Carnival project, which aims to showcase the best philosophical posts from a wide range of weblogs. We invite submissions from bloggers and readers, and collate the submitted posts into one big round-up (or "carnival") every three weeks, offering a brief summary of each entry, and a link to the complete post.

Note that the carnival itself is not hosted on this page. Instead, links to each carnival (remember, there's a new one every few weeks!) can be found in the Blog Carnival widget above.

What is the purpose of the carnival?
The Philosophers' Carnival has two primary purposes:
  • To provide lesser-known philosophy bloggers with the opportunity to gain some exposure and attract a wider audience.
  • To showcase the best that a wide range of philosophy blogs have to offer, in one convenient location, for the benefit of philosophically-inclined readers.
While I hope that the carnival might have some scholarly value, it is probably better suited to a more fun and informal role, in stimulating public debate and the exchange of ideas. Ideally, it may help serve as a 'bridge' between academics, students, and philosophically-interested laypeople. But even if it merely achieves the more modest goal of exposing curious readers to some new ideas that they hadn't come across before, that seems plenty valuable in itself.

Submissions Wanted:
We need submissions for posts to include in the carnival. Do you have a philosophy blog? If so, simply choose a favourite from among your recent posts, and use the BlogCarnival submissions form to submit the link.

Don't be shy, we want to hear from you, that's the whole point of this project! Your post doesn't need to be anything earth-shattering - it just needs to be something that other philosophically-minded people might enjoy reading. (Note that not all submissions are ultimately accepted, as hosts may prefer to keep their edition down to a manageable size. But you can always try again next round.)

How many submissions can I make?
We would ask that you restrain yourself to one submission per author per carnival edition (with a maximum of 3 authors for group blogs). We welcome repeat participants in future carnivals, however. Indeed, with a fortnight to prepare, many philosophy bloggers may be able to come up with something worth submitting to each carnival!

Can I nominate someone else's post?
Sure! Simply use the standard submission form, but please take care to specify that you are not the author of the post being submitted. (That way we can honour the author's personal preference if they submit a different post on their own.)

Hosting
The carnival is hosted by a different blog each three weeks. Volunteers wanted! Read the hosting guidelines if you're interested, and chuck me an email:
