One of the many problems for the Philadelphia Eagles this season has been a slew of injuries. Quarterback Michael Vick(notes), wide receiver Jeremy Maclin(notes), and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie(notes), among others, were already out of action before the team started its 31-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Thursday night.
Now the team can add a few more names to the list.
Minutes after safety Colt Anderson(notes) tore the ACL in his left knee on a kickoff, the Eagles lost the services of star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha(notes). He went down in the second quarter with a possible concussion while trying to stop a Tarvaris Jackson(notes) pass to Mike Williams, CSN Philly reports.
"Asomugha landed awkwardly, and Williams hit Asomugha's head on the way down," the site notes. The poor guy was already hurting in his knee after he suffered a hyperextension in practice last week. Now he's got 10 days to get things together before the Eagles take on the Miami Dolphins.

Quarterback Peyton Manning(notes) isn't about to jump back onto the field and try to mar the Indianapolis Colts' shot at a perfectly winless season, but news from his doc Thursday should help make Indy fans feel better about next year.
The Indianapolis Star reports that the man who is looking after Manning's troubled neck, Dr. Robert Watkins, said Thursday that Manning's September surgery was a success: "X-ray and CT examination of the surgical area shows that the fusion performed in September has achieved firm fixation," Watkins said, according to the Star. "Peyton will now be allowed to increase the intensity and breadth of his workouts as tolerated. There remains every indication that his recovery will continue."
The 35-year-old four-time league MVP still has a long way to go in rehab, but at least he's not going in the oppositee direction. If all goes well, he should be tutoring Andrew Luck in no time.

Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson(notes) hurt his foot during the team's 23-20 win over the Cleveland Browns last weekend and it's still hurting enough to keep him out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Still, the paper reports that the injury "does not appear to be anything serious" and predicts that the 28-year-old will be on the field when the team takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend.
The fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft, Benson has gained 749 yards rushing this season and scored five touchdowns. He's also had four receptions for 24 yards.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley says he's going to have second-year quarterback Tyler Palko(notes) starting this Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but that didn't stop him from having backup Kyle Orton(notes) nearly split the snaps with the first squad in Wednesday's practice, according to the Kansas City Star.
Haley noted to reporters that "he won't hesitate to change quarterbacks during the game if events warrant and he believes the recently acquired Orton is ready to play," the Star reports.
"We've got to get ready to win a big game," Haley said, according to the Star. "We'll do it by whatever means possible. If it takes playing three quarterbacks and going wildcat 20 plays, we've got to do that."
In four games this season, Palko has thrown for 444 yards, six interceptions, and no touchdowns. Orton, meanwhile, has thrown for 979 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions in five games with the Denver Broncos at the start of the season.

Denver Broncos rookie linebacker Von Miller(notes) is having a stellar season with 10.5 sacks, 57 tackles and two forced fumbles. But National Football Post reports that the 6-3, 237-pounder could miss this Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings "after having surgery to repair torn ligaments in his thumb" on Tuesday.
Miller, picked second overall in this summer's draft out of Texas A&M, was hurt in the fourth quarter of this past weekend's overtime win over the San Diego Chargers, but continued playing after getting hurt.
"After getting taped, he made a crucial defensive stop in overtime, tackling running back Ryan Mathews(notes) for a 4-yard loss," the Denver Post reports. "That pushed the Chargers' game-winning field goal attempt back to 53 yards, from where Nick Novak's(notes) boot faded wide right."
The Post has it that Miller "has vowed to try and play at Minnesota."

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz worked at Arizona State University from 1983 to 1991 as the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach as well as the offensive coordinator before taking his first NFL job with the Los Angeles Rams in 1992 as the quarterbacks coach. The word from the Arizona Republic is that Martz is interested in returning to the university, this time as the head coach.
ASU's current head coach, Dennis Erickson, will be sent packing after five seasons, and Martz's contract ends with the Bears at season's end, having turned down an extension offered by the Bears this offseason, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The 60-year-old Martz has had his work cut out for him this year with the 7-4 Bears after losing starting quarterback Jay Cutler(notes) for a chunk of the season and now relying on third-year QB Caleb Hainie, who went undrafted out of Colorado State in 2009. Martz served as the head coach to the St. Louis Rams from 2000-2005, earning a record of 53-32 and an NFC championship along the way.

The Houston Texans signed veteran Jake Delhomme(notes) Tuesday to be the backup to rookie T.J. Yates(notes) after starters Matt Schaub(notes) and Matt Leinart(notes) both went down for the rest of the season with injuries.
Another quarterback that got a call from the team is David Garrard(notes), who was unceremoniously sliced from the roster of the Jacksonville Jaguars after nine seasons of work there. Unfortunately for him, he is still recovering from back surgery and can't play just yet.
"You know every quarterback that's gone down? Pretty much every team has called," Garrard told SiriusXM NFL Radio Tuesday, according to ProFootballTalk. "They had me on flights ready to come out [saying,] ‘Well, can he rehab here.' Every last one of them. And I've had to say ‘no' every time. I don't even know if this is a record of how many quarterbacks have gone down in one season but for me to be sitting out here and not to be able to play? I've never not been able to play but there's nothing I can do. I'm good right now at getting in and out of chairs and helping my wife around the house but running around, throwing, and getting hit? I'm just not in that position at this time."
Garrard went on to say that he's a few weeks away from being able to pass a physical, which pretty much means he's a non-factor this season.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice(notes) suffered his second head injury in three games Sunday and "isn't going to make it back for Thursday's game" against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the Seattle Times.
"We have to take care of him," said head coach Pete Carroll, the Times reports. "There's not a helmet that he could put on his head that he could play with this weekend."
Rice, of course, was signed this offseason to team up with the team's big receiving surprise of 2010: Mike Williams. As the Washington Post points out, the pair have been a disappointment, with a combined three touchdowns and 46 catches this season.
"Rice came up woozy after making a diving attempt for a pass across the middle in Sunday's 23-17 loss" to the Washington Redskins, the Post notes. Neither Williams nor Rice had a catch in the game.
The Times has it that Rice's replacement will be Ben Obomanu(notes), who has 28 receptions for 295 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden(notes) has missed the last three games (and most of a fourth) due to a sprained right foot.
The San Francisco Chronicle has it that McFadden is finally up and walking and doing light workout on the practice field without a protective walking boot. Coach Hue Jackson wouldn't give a timetable for the 24-year-old's return, but McFadden is "likely out" again this weekend when the team takes on the Miami Dolphins, the Chronicle notes.
"I think that was huge. I think that's a step in the right direction," Jackson said about McFadden, the paper notes.
Also of note is that quarterback Jason Campbell(notes) has started throwing again after breaking his collarbone six weeks ago, the Chronicle notes.

Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu(notes) has had concussion problems since all the way back in high school, but this week's brush with a head injury isn't going to stop him from being in the starting lineup in Week 13 when his team takes on the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Polamalu only had concussion-like symptoms Sunday and was "clear and lucid" by halftime, the paper reports. He was only kept out of the game at that point because of "league rules," the Post-Gazette notes.
So look for the 30-year-old six-time Pro Bowler to be back on the field next weekend. He has had 64 tackles and one sack this season.
