"Stand With Us" PSA from The Transgender Response Team

Stand With Us is a new public service announcement that takes aim at violence and discrimination against transgender people. It is the collective work of the Transgender Response Team (TRT), a stakeholder's group convened in Baltimore, Maryland and tasked with reducing HIV and improving wellness in the transgender community. Ending violence and discrimination are paramount to the success of this work. The TRT welcomes new members who share our vision for health, safety, and equality.

Can’t Find the Protest Songs? Check Inside the Movement

McKinley Jr. asks us, “Where have all the protest songs gone?” Citing Occupy Wall Street and the movement it has inspired, McKinley suggests that we “have yet to find an anthem”.

City Council Hearing Investigates Allegations of Gender Discrimination at New Shelter

Members of the Baltimore City Council held an investigative hearing yesterday regarding allegations of gender discrimination and intimidation at the new City-funded homeless shelter, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Housing and Resource Center (HRC). The hearing comes just ten days after City police forcefully removed over 300 students and advocates from staging an overnight “sleep-out” in front of City Hall to raise awareness about homelessness, despite being allowed to do so in previous years.

Occupy Baltimore at two months, City denies permit request

This past week the City of Baltimore denied a permit request submitted by Occupy Baltimore to maintain their now two-month-old encampment at McKeldin Square. The denial was sent by letter from Gregory Bayor, director of the Department of Recreation and Parks, prohibiting the request to remain at the inner harbor site legally through to April 2012.
