Sprint Steps Up Yet Again To Support Clearwire With Up To $1.6 Billion

Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR) will live to fight on thanks to a cash infusion from its good buddy (or frustrated spouse, depending on how you see things) Sprint (NYSE: S), which has agreed to spend as much as $1.6 billion in payments to use Clearwire’s WiMax network over the next several years. As bleak a year as it has been for Clearwire, things would have gotten much worse without Thursday’s agreement.

The latest reports on what Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) is cooking up could be another boost: Apple is supposedly looking to include LTE capabilities in the iPhone and iPad devices that it is releasing next year.

Barnes & Noble Misses Expectations, Though Digital Sales Increase

As it enters the holiday season with the new Nook Tablet for sale and hopes to seize on the “$2 billion up for grabs” as a result of Borders’ bankruptcy, Barnes & Noble (NYSE: BKS) announced its Q2 2012 earnings this morning. Revenues were lower than expected and in-store sales were down, though BN.com sales increased year-on-year. Barnes & Noble stock is down about 12 percent this morning following the report’s release.

Amazon Widens Its Kindle Footprint With €99 Device On Sale In Spain, Italy

It’s taken a few years, but Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) has really ramped up the number of countries where it is selling its Kindle products. Today it’s announcing two more countries to the list where it sells its keyboard-free Kindle e-reader, Spain and Italy, where it will sell for €99 ($133), along with a catalog of titles in Spanish and Italian Kindle stores. The new Kindle Fire tablet, however, is not yet part of the deal.
