Dismissals of worker activists in Baltic Spinning continues

Goleniw_2Until the 7th of February 2011 three members of the Workers' Initiative were fired from Baltic Spinning factory. All of them are going to the labor court and demand the withdrawal of the dismissals and re-employment. For the Workers' Initiative the behavior of the Baltic Spinning management is an outrageous attack on the freedom of association in the workplace. The Workers' Initiative is going to monitor the case and inform about workers' rights violations in the Kostrzyn-Slubice Special Economic Zone.

Goleniów, SEZ: Attempt to fire an WI activist

Baltic_2During the night shift on Februar 5, 2011, the management of Baltic Spinning factory in Goleniów Industrial Park (part of the Kostrzyn-Słubice SEZ) attempted to fire Adam Z., a member of the founding committee of the Workers' Initiative in the plant. Adam did not accept the notice. He informed the manager and the member of the board, Anna Rafal, that he was protected by trade union law.

The anatomy of the Polish workers' protests

This article strives to reinterpret the history of the Polish workers' movement of the last few decades. This attempt comes with a conviction about the sociological significance of historical and historiosophic analysis, especially in view of the presently fashionable thesis of the "end of history": a thesis, formulated in 1989 by Francis Fukuyama, according to which the final victory of capitalism has already taken place. My analysis endeavours to prove that the year 1989 had not marked a turning point in the history of the contemporary workers' movement. In my view, to explain the problems relating to the work­ers' movement in a suitable fashion, one needs to analyse much older trends. I shall begin my analysis from the year 1970.

28.07.2010. Call for support of persecuted activistsof Workers' Initiative in Poland

For more than two years the management of the Statistical Office in Opole, Poland, has violated a number of workers' rights and harassed their employees because of their affiliation with Workers' Initiative.

Rafał Górski passed away

4 July, after a long-term disease Rafał Górski died. He was an anarchist and an activist of the Worker's Initiative Trade Union and the anarchist movement, a researcher of history of syndicalism and anarchism, an author of numerous articles and books. The Worker's Initiative Trade Union is in mourning after the loss of a remarkable animator of union activities, a man of great authority. For many of us this is a loss of one of our closest friends.

Marcel Szary passed away

Marcel Szary, an activist of Workers' Initiative Trade Union in Cegielski factory, died today morning. He was  one of the founders of the union. It is a huge loss for the syndicalist and workers' movement in Poland.

Collar Textil: The next one worker's success

On 05. January 10 Workers' Initiative activists and Collar Textill shop committee representatives visited city office in Opatów. Workers were cheated by employer. They expect support form local government. They fight for they remunerations and other perks which are still not payed.

There are also actions to save even some workplaces in Collar Textil factory. This company was one of the largest employers district Opatów. Workers talk about cooperative creation. WI help them to realize this project successfully. It could save some workplaces.
