CFR's Scott Snyder says the Obama administration's objectives going into the APEC summit include promoting exports to Asian countries through the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and signaling the US commitment to the region by joining the East Asia Summit for the first time. Snyder argues that these initiatives "threaten the primary role that APEC has played as a gathering for Asian leaders." ANCHOR: At least one person died and four are missing or injured when a ferry carrying about 100 people sank in the Turkish Sea of Marmara. Heres more. STORY: An unconscious man is brought to shore after being pulled from the sea after a roll-on roll-off ferry sank off the coast of Turkey. The vessel was just about 300 yards from shore on a journey from Barndirma to Istanbul when it began to rock violently. It sank in 15 minutes. On board were 73 trucks and two cars along with 96 people. It's feared some drivers were asleep in their trucks when the ferry sank. At least one person died and at least seven are still missing. One man had a lucky escape. [Would-be Passenger]: "I was also going to board the ship but they would not let me board. This is really sad. They only think about the money, they do not think about the people." A transport official said 70 people had been picked up in a search and rescue operation.

Full video of Vladimir Putin playing the piano and singing "Blueberry Hill". The Russian prime minister is used to taking to the stage, but this time it was not for one of his speeches. Vladimir Putin made his audience sit up and take note, as he sang at a charity fundraiser. The reception at an ice stadium in St. Petersburg was dedicated to fighting children's cancer. International celebrities including Kevin Costner, Gerard Depardieu, Mickey Rourke, Sharon Stone, Kurt Russell, Vincent Cassel, Monica Belucci, Ornella Muti, Goldie Hawn and many others attended the benefit concert. Many of the stars are actively involved in charity work which draws needed attention to children's oncological and ophthalmological diseases. When the hostess approached Putin's table and asked him to sing for the audience, his immediate reaction was "are you kidding me?" But the hostess was determined to get the prime minister on the mic and reminded him about the songs he sang with the Russian sleeper agents extradited from the US last summer. Putin attempted to evade the proposal by saying that the singing she was referring to had come from the heart. However, after seeing the pictures of ill children shown to the audience on the big screen, he took to the stage. "Like the majority of people I cannot -- but do like to sing and to play -- so you'll have to rough it," he warned as he sat at the piano and played the beginning of Blueberry Hill. The tune was immediately caught by Maceo Parker's ...

European shares fell in choppy trade as uncertainties over the selection of a new leader in Italy added to investors' jitters. Greece may have chosen a new leader, but the debt problems there still threaten the whole of the eurozone. The European Union's economic watchdog predicts some countries in the region could be heading for recession in 2012. As European Union's debt crisis continues to spiral out of control, governments have moved quickly to deny they're preparing for some members leaving the eurozone. Al Jazeera's Nadim Baba reports.

CCTV cameras in the Turkish city of Van have captured dramatic video footage of the moment Wednesday's 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck. Security footage from violently shaking cameras showed people running out of buildings, lights going out and thick clouds of smoke enveloping streets in the provincial capital. The quake - which struck in the same Turkish province that was hit by a deadly temblor last month - has killed at least 10 people, including a Japanese aid worker. Twenty-eight people have been pulled out of the rubble alive since the quake, after rescuers worked through the night on Wednesday. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com
