Refugees are welcome, racists are not! An intimate evening with Aboriginal leader, Ray Jackson

Ray Jackson, a Wiradjuri man, is a campaigner to stop deaths in custody and President of the Indigenous Social Justice Association in Sydney. Disgusted by the vilification of refugees by both the Gillard government and the Abbot-led opposition, Jackson says that each is “attempting to outdo the other to see who can hit a social hell first!” Jackson is visiting Melbourne to participate in an Indigenous welcome for asylum seekers at Melbourne University. Join him for an informal dinner and discussion about these issues as he mounts the case that “these racist One Nation clones do not speak in my name!”

Ray will speak after a relaxed buffet dinner. Meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans will be catered for.

$15 waged, $10 concession and $20 solidarity price. Drinks available from the Solidarity Salon bar. Please book to assist with catering.

This event, hosted by Radical Women and Freedom Socialist Party, will be held at Solidarity Salon (address and travel information is above.)

Help Defend the Fertility Control Clinic

In Victoria, the anti-abortion backlash persists: the Catholic Church is preparing to challenge last year’s decriminalisation legislation, and religious fanatics continue to harass clinics that perform terminations.

On the fourth Saturday of every month the Freedom Socialist Party joins Radical Women, Campaign for Women’s Reproductive Rights and other abortion rights activists to defend the Fertility Control Clinic from anti-women bigots calling themselves the Helpers of Gods’ Precious Infants.

The Fertility Control Clinic is located at 118 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne. For more information, contact Radical Women: email radicalwomen@optusnet.com.au or phone 03-9388-0062.

Hit the streets for abortion rights! Keep abortion legal in Victoria

Abortion rights in Victoria are under threat. The Right to Life is organising a “March for the Babies” on October 8, wanting to recriminalise abortion. This anti-choice mobilisation is to bolster reactionary efforts to establish the “rights” of the foetus and wind back Victoria’s 2008 reform, which decriminalised abortion. Pro-choicers will rally to make our message loud and clear: “We won’t go back! Full reproductive rights for all women now! Assemble, Parliament House, Spring Street, Melbourne.

Initiated by Campaign for Women’s Reproductive Rights. Endorsed by Albury Choice, Freedom Socialist Party, Green Left Weekly, Australian Services Union Social and Community Sector Metropolitan Delegates’ Committee, Radical Women and Socialist Alliance (list in progress).

Freedom Socialist Party meeting: Effective action is needed now on climate change

The mainstream media presents the debate around the Gillard Government’s Carbon Tax as a choice between this scheme or nothing. While some in the environment movement argue the government plan is better than nothing, it is important to be clear about what real action on climate change would look like. You are welcome to join this discussion about the way forward.

The meeting will also include a report on campaigns taking place for new agreements across the Australia Public Service that have seen massive votes against management offers, protected action ballots and stop work action.

The event will be held at Solidarity Salon (address and travel information is above.)

Dinner, with a vegetarian option, will be served before the meeting at 6:30 pm for an $8 donation.

For more information call 9388-0062 or email freedom.socialist.party@ozemail.com.au
